I rented a flute back about 15 years ago and self taught myself to play Jethro tull songs, Ok was nowhere near as good as Ian but hey the love is there, Pity ians voice has totally gone, I so wanted to see them live. However after hearing some live performances from the last few years I am glad I have my memories, cause he has lost his voice totally. He still plays the flute like a demon but vocals gone.
Few, if any create such a beautiful vocal melody line in [lclassic prog anyway] their songs, with the fountain-of-youth consistency of Ian A. Ian is a master at varied colorful vocal stylings. Most do some simple blues pattern, Ian SELDOM does. Queen, Floyd and others do pretty well also IMO. If you listen to the entire 40 year catalog, the diversity is amazing...
my dad showed me Jethro Tull, loved em ever since. Beastie, Locomotive breath, Aqualung, Jack in the green, and Jack frost and the Hooded crow are my favorites.
look ive listened to music like led, jimi, black flag, jethro anthrax, sabbath, kate bush, and all the rest and i do long for more of the classics, BUT todays music has so much to offer also, u just gotta have an open mind and a little luck and there are sone great song writers out there still. DONT BE LIKE YOUR DAD AND END YOUR RECORD COLLECTION IN 85' AHAHAH
I'm 16 and into bands like Disturbed, Saliva, Rammstein, Limp Bizkit, etc -- but this album (Broadsword and the Beast) especially the song "Beastie" rocks just as hard if not harder than some of the modern songs! Tull was so ahead of their time it blows my mind -- rock on forever to JETHRO TULL!!!
you cant beat this music my dad got me into this music and i am know learning to play the guitar im 13 and the biggest lover of music in the whole of my school
lynn8356 says that this is great music. I've been listening to Jethro Tull ever since they got started. back in the '60s when I was a kid. Keep up the good work!
This song, for me anyway; is a perfect description of Combat Induced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD-Beastie) This is by far the absolute definitive description of what life is like when suffering with chronic PTSD. Amazing. Thanks Aqualung1989, for taking time to upload all this outstanding music. I know it can be time consuming, it no doubt is a labor of love. Just know that there are people that sincerely appreciate your efforts. HOOYAH!
My personal beastie that won't go away completely is the American werewolf in London, coming up the basement stairs in the middle of the night when I'm getting a drink of water in the dark - that's different from the black dog of melancholy and the hellhound of mortality, but they're out there too - but since there''s no ultimate hope, all one can do is laugh, and fight -
some of us that were teens then thought yhat this was cool beeing we were gitin' over our beesties and we did not know that those things under the bed were not the real beasties
@TheThgil Hell yeah. When I was a kid this song scared me cos of the beasties under the bed. Now i'm grown up and i understand the metaphor the beasties STILL scare me.
It's a clear picture of how bad the 80s did to some 70s bands...
Please don't think I don't like it, but compared to any 70s Tull album, Benefit for example, this makes me sad. Jethro Tull is one of my favorite bands.
I mean, the personality of some bands got hidden sometimes by ugly synths, power chords or robotic beats...
You gotta respect a band with a lead flutist, at first it seems wierd when you try to picture it in a rock song but when you hear how awesome he makes it, changes your opinion completely.
I'm 45, I've played flute since I was 8. I have 4 kids, 3 girls, 2 who play flute so far. And they've learned Ian Anderson. by ear., one of the greatest modern flute player's ever!
@faryfreak909 God bless them.Such a lovely story.Jethro Tull were and always will be the finest rock band ever. Great to hear your 2 girls are flying the flag for the Tull! I'm 38 and was introduced to them in 1990.
I'm 45, I've played flute since I was eight. I learned to play Tull from albums (yes, I'm talking vinyl). Ian Anderson is my favorite. I'm teaching my kids flute, but there is no one like Ian Anderson !
I work as a van driver and took my ten year old son out for the day recently.Tom Morton from Radio Scotland played this and I turned it up full. The reaction from my son proved to me that todays "music" doesn't come close. He was totally enthralled.
Wow no one around my age likes Tull, they all say Jethro Tull can shove that flut up his *** and one i say Jethro Tull is a band LMAO, and hell i myself am 19, and i have only met tull Fans that are Like 40, you know Music!
Big kudos to you, I am nearly 18 and I love Jethro Tull! Today's music sucks, they have absolutely no message or virtuosity in it. Thumbs up to you, dude!
@TheFrickinPope Actually, you should all get medals. I mean, most of my friends (and im 25) are listening to fucking Ke$ha and that stupid Justin Bieber (which, as a Canadian, I apologize for again).
So yeah. Anyone that's your age, should be getting a medal for having some solid taste in music! You're rare, and deserve to be recognized as awesome.
@TheFrickinPope Unfortunately, yeah. I also have friends who are into Twilight though... so please believe me when I say I know some of the most unintelligent people around.
Clearly, some of the people I know have absolutely no taste, lol. Thank GOD I'm sane enough to hate both Bieber and Twilight.
J'ai 42 ans et j'aime JT depuis mes 14 ans et j'aime toujours autant!!! Et si ton fils aime ça c'est très bien mèmme si il aime d'autres choses . C'est kool!@Cocarat206

Yeah, I never stopped loving Tull, I'd listen to them through thick and thin...
But their sound in the 80's wasn't really what I love about them.
