Thankyou for posting this video. I was particularly interested in the way Pittsburgh was locked down, the types of barriers used, how far from the actual summit the barriers extended to, the fact that you 'needed' to have permission to protest.
G20 and APEC protests in Melbourne and Sydney used similar tactics.
It is probably fair to say that the law enforcement corporations are involved in information sharing.

Good for you buddy. We run in to former EMTs all the time on calls. Mostly they interfere and are a pain in the ass. Wanna know how we know they touch themselves? They make a point to let us know they are/were a "medic". First thing out of their mouths usually. Instead of letting their skills and attitude tell the tale, they say "im a former medic" then use big medical words. At that point we go "yeah yeah yeah" and ignore them.

I also heard from co-workers of mine, that the majority of the protestors had NO issues with police, because they were PEACEFUL, respectful of everyone, and were in areas they were permitted to be. I am in support of that, and the 1st Amendment, but when you break windows, light dumpsters on fire, have no permit, call the cops names and throw trash on paramedics, you are an ASSHOLE plain and simple.

I was there. No one was beaten. Forcibly arrested yes. No one was "forced" to breathe the pepper spray. The intent of the spray was to get them to disperse and leave the area, so that traffic can move and the area where the delegates were was not threatened. You do not have an absolute right to assemble. When violence has happened or is anticipated (protestors made it clear to the police they would), or when public safety is in peril, the chief of police can issue an order to leave, which was what happened. Protestors are PISSED OFF because they could not do what they wanted to do- destroy.

The Oakland protesters learned real quick. I am a paramedic and I was there covering the event to assist injured police. They're damn lucky they made it out with only pepper exposure and rubber bullet welts. If they tried anything more they would have gotten their asses kicked real hard. The protester hype didnt match up- I saw them running away peeing their pants. Real tough. Better not cause shit in Pittsburgh again.
