I agree with what most of what Chris Hedges says...but,comparing the christian right with the new atheists as both being fundamentalists....i am not sure is correct....
@sangeetosho I believe it is. He means it in the sense they, the fundamental atheists and christians, subscribe to an unflinching dogma that whoever does not believe what they do ( jesus and intervening God in Christian right, and nothingness and "fact" and "reason" in atheism ) do not have a place in a civilized society and therefore fundamental believers of either christianity or atheism take it upon themselves to force everyone else to do things they think are "right."
In mythology, Prometheus, one of the Titans, steals fire from the gods on Mount Olympus and brings it as a gift to Man, marking the birth of Human culture.
For this rebellion, Zeus sentences him to be chained to Mount Caucasus, where vultures consume his liver during the day, and at night it grows back, only to be again eaten away the next day.
This is a tale of the agony of the creative individual, whose nightly rest only resuscitates him so that he can endure his agonies the next day.
The authentic rebel knows that the silencing of all his adversaries is the last thing on earth he wishes.
Their extermination would deprive him, and whoever else remains alive, from the uniqueness, the originality, and the capacity for insight that these enemies — being human — also have and could share with him.

This makes me consider that even though we've been taught in school that there are 3 branches of the US government (Executive, Legislative, Judicial), in reality there are 4, the 4th branch being The People (since the system of "checks and balances" is not limited to those conventional 3 branches, but includes the people as well). The intended influence and rights of The People of USA are increasingly eroded and trivialized.

@nyyankfan05 War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity...Obama should be tried and hung for his crimes...as should George Bush and his terrorist counterparts.
@nyyankfan05 Suggesting a legal prosecution and execution as justice for criminal acts is much different than declaring the intent to assassinate, which is what that law pertains to.
The comments by the caller (from 2:11:50 to 2:13:20) about Christopher Hitchens was, I believe, the most insightful of all the comments by callers during this Q&A period to this interview. Of course, it is extremely difficult to differentiate among the many gems of wisdom that Chris Hedges shares in his discourse.
We all know that the presidents are just puppets on a string.Wikileaks are now disclosing info about Obama, and how he got in office. And since this information is coming out,I just wonder if anything is going to be done about this.
I applaud the person/s who uploaded this. It was the closure of the doors St Pauls to #occupy protesters which first made me curious to understand what on Earth is going on. I quickly found a link to 'Money As Debt' by Paul Grignon and was deeply shocked by its content. In the months since I have discovered a lot of intelligent comment online but Mr Hedges survey of our predicament is the most penetrating, calm, balanced analysis so far. Tremendous intellect and integrity. Aloha from the 'UK' !
Chris Hedges is one of the few lucid voices in the Unitad States today. I wished Americans listened to people like him so they would have a chance to avoid the national economic, social and political disaster that will engulf their country.
@237Michael Please tell me you're joking. While his intent is pure, Hedges has the intellect of a newborn monkey. Actually, I take that back; a monkey is smarter, it was born and remains an atheist. Maybe you should watch those debates with Harris, et all, he speaks of..... the guy is a moron. What America needs is to settle its past before it can create a future. To do that, Americans must settle the political issue of religion.
@237Michael I agree with you, but it's not so easy. People like Chris Hedges just aren't put into the mainstream, and that's by design. The Internet is one of the last free places we have.
The goal of this tradition of psychopathy is to get everyone to kill each other, and not take the blame. They declared covert war on all of us generations ago, and therefore we were not given the choice. We are set against each other when in reality, both sides of these conflicts are victims, and both are conquered in the end. We have a common enemy and by eliminating it, we solve our collective problem once and for all. Institutionalize all psychopaths immediately. Especially those in power.
@950horsepower THEY ARE THE ONES THAT RUN THE INSTITUTIONS!!! THE GREED MACHINES ARE THE ONE PERCENT IN BED WITH THE POLITICANS. REAGAN & BUSH WERE LIERS.......AND CLINTON PLAYED HIS GAME DIFFERENT YET WAS STILL PART OF THE CORRUPTION .....AS ARE MOST IF NOT ALL. BRILLIANT MAN..............TELLS IT LIKE IT IS YET AMERICA IS BRAIN DEAD TO SEEK THE KNOWLEDGE. THERE WILL BE ANOTHER OCCUPY WALLSTREET. WE NEED MORE LIKE CHRIS HEDGES. WISH HE WERE PRESIDENT.
@pretorious700 Yes, I agree. In fact, I'm sure there's direct correlation between the lack of knowledge I've mentioned and the situation you've mentioned.
Thanks Chris, for your insites. You have seen the worst of humanity, and yet kept your ability to care for others intact. Your calmness has pulled me back toward reason several times. Again - Thanks...
@pretorious700 The congressmen are led by corporate interest and payouts. They are nothing more than a mere person who has sold his self as a prostitute. They left their oath at the door to serve the dead.
If you don't De-register to vote, you are supporting them weather or not you say you are, or not. Your registered vote, has always given them the power to continue their direction. Even if people vote Ron Paul (which would be the better of all of them IMO) it is STILL supporting an illusion you are NOT a party to in the first place.
Supreme court has already ruled US citizens are not a party to it. You have never had rights, you have never had any say so who became president. It is an illusion.
@Jeffersonwazright You are stupid to think your vote has ever counted, and for thinking you can be a citizen of a corporation rather than a nation. De-registering your vote will take you out of their jurisdiction for which you are operating in a state of delusional insanity.
Only an insane "person" will think he can be the 'product' of a corporation. After all they have a storage place built JUST for people like you.
@Jeffersonwazright Besides Of there were ZERO registered voters for their "corporation" it would cease to exist. You give them the power to do what they do by your vote by recognizing them in the first place.
Start a revolution YOU say.. makes YOU the problem not them. I guess someone with such a larger EGO wont be allowed to see it though.
Good luck with Armageddon, I mean YOUR "revolution". roflmao
@gorgeousdzastr Thanks for all of those bad-ass capital letters you used. You really know how to emphasize words. I am lost for word and you win sir...you win. My gosh, the way you all caps'd the word ego is just breathtaking.
@Jeffersonwazright Yea I thought when I was holding my artists brush stroke and curled it up on the end it would mean a lot more to ya, than just a plain ol picture... no one likes black and white anymore these days...
'Christopher' is such a beautiful name. Why can't you call yourself by your baptismal name, at least publicly and professionally? Let your mother and your wife call you by your nick-name or short-form.
This guy is saying he can void scripture from Moses in the Bible, seems like Satan up to his old tricks of leading and misleading. Run away from this guy.
@BonerMaroner If one is a Christian isn't the New Testament supposed to supercede the old testament? More importantly Satan doesn't exist, the bible was written by men (it didn't fall down out of the sky) and I'm going to relate to the world based on the real world, not on literal interpretation of bronze age writtings.
@njanovic Old Testament not superseded by New. IMO, 1 writing of Matthew & 4 writings of John only writings of true disciples of God. All rest of New Test is bullshi*. Natural law.
@GreggTheEgg Yep, Dead Wrong. If anyone will it's the lefty atheists. I think the christians have started to love capitalism. Because, let's be honest, religion as a general rule is majority and status quo driven- that's what it is about. Why would the status quo, the great group-think, pull the plug on itself? They don't have the balls!! They are capitalists first and christian second, at least in the US.
@Ponerology Chris Hedges is excellent, one of my favorite commentators. I don't agree with all of his positions, I've never met any one I agree with 100% and don't expect to, but overall Hedges is very good.
A cogent and accurate analysis rendered all the more powerful by Hedges' flawlessly concise articulation. Puts MSM talking (air)heads to shame. But is anyone listening?

Brilliant man. Love his style and honesty. Have question, when he says liberal church, does he mean catholic church ? dont know much of the difference bt christian right, evangelicans( sorry dont know how to spell). im atheist but share criticism of atheism as a religion w Mr. Hedges
I've been using the term "neo-feudalism" to describe the decline of an equitable civilization in the USA for at least 12 years now. There are fairer places to live in this world yet few Americans are even willing to consider them as valid societies. Grateful to Mr. Hedges for telling truths. That takes guts..
@penlovmov My son has left the country. He now resides in Mongolia. While I am sad that he had to go to the opther side of the globe to receive a proper educatoion (he's a U student) I'm very proud of his courage and intellectual ambitions. I'm stuck here, so I'll keep working for justice. Peace, M.
I read that your U.S.A. FreeMason 33rd GrandMaster FreeMason of J.P. Morgen and Associates, financed the Adolf Hitler War Machine and the Third Reich! If this is wrong send me your corrections, I will accept an explanation to the contrary! This statement can either be speculation or true, please verify and tell me the truth??
Ron Paul care about people. The thing is you are scared of what is comming from this chaos and attack the voters by trying to deceive them with a telepatic way of detecting intentions from Ron Paul and scared the others with it. Americans are very stupid to continue with the FED and taxations, for illegal wars.
@Sabinovitchcam Im a libertarian socialist, Im against state power but Im also against corporate power Getting rid of the FED doesn't stop corporate power in fact it creates more competition. The hierarchical structure with freemarket in which capitalism advocates creates private tyranny in which corporate owners control every thing from the police to hospitals. With this privatized system this will only allow the rich the best health care. I know his intentions. His foreign policy is only good.
@Sabinovitchcam That's your justification for Ron Pauls policy "there is always good things out of chaos". Ron Paul doesn't care about you. His foreign policy is sane. But giving corporations more power is lunacy!
I really like Mr. Hedges and have read several of his books, but every time he mispronounces 'nuclear' in an interview I cringe. Please, Mr. Hedges, do fix that. A gaffe like that causes people who aren't nearly as educated, thoughtful or literate as you are -- people like me -- to begin to dismiss or at least depreciate what you have to say/write.
@YoungTeufelhunden You can't percieve anything other than yourself. When you are experiencing someone else, you are only experiencing yourself having an experience of that person.
@1979descartes Wow, that was actually a good reply. Perhaps I misjudged you. But that's not really my experience/perception, there is some evidence to support my claim. You can't deny the state of this country leaves a LOT to be desired. Have you seen some of the latest surveys? Hundreds of thousands of American citizens can't name three branches of government, many can't name their congressman, and still more don't know the date upon which America was founded.

True to the meaning of the rebel, as one who renounces authority, he seeks primarily not the substitution of one political system for another.
He may favor such a political change, but it is not his chief goal.
He rebels for the sake of a vision of life and society which he is convinced is critically important for himself and his fellows.
The rebel fights not only for the relief of his fellow men but also for his personal integrity.
For him these are but two sides of the same coin.

Regarding Christopher Hedges;
From "The Humanity of the Rebel" by Rollo May (Existential Psychologist 1909-1994)
The Rebel, is one who opposes authority or restraint, one who breaks with established custom or tradition.
He seeks above all an internal change, a change in the attitudes, emotions, and outlook of the people to whom he is devoted.
He often seems to be temperamentally unable to accept success, and the ease it brings.

Throughout history, there is observed a regularity in which society martyrs the rebel in one generation, and worships him in the next.

If we wish the death of our enemies, we cannot talk about the community of man.
In the losing of the chance for dialogue with our enemies, we are the poorer.

The function of the rebel is to shake the fixated mores of the rigid order of civilization, and it is this shaking, though painful, which is necessary, if the society is to be saved from boredom and apathy.
Civilization begins with a rebellion. Civilization gets its first flower from the rebel.

No matter how much the rebel gives the appearance of being egocentric, or of being on an ego trip, this is a illusion.
Inwardly the authentic rebel is anything but brash.

He kicks against the pricks, and when one frontier is conquered, he soon becomes ill-at-ease and pushes on to the new frontier.
He is drawn to the unquiet minds and spirits, for he shares their everlasting inability to accept stultifying control.
He may, as Socrates did, refer to himself as the Gadfly for the State, the one who keeps the state from settling down into a complacency, which is the first step toward decadence.

Regarding Christopher Hedges;

Of course, it is extremely difficult to differentiate among the many gems of wisdom that Chris Hedges shares in his discourse.

To do that, Americans must settle the political issue of religion.

It is an illusion.
gorgeousdzastr 2 weeks ago
@gorgeousdzastr Not voting is worse than voting. Either start the revolution or shut up.
Jeffersonwazright 2 weeks ago
@Jeffersonwazright You are stupid to think your vote has ever counted, and for thinking you can be a citizen of a corporation rather than a nation. De-registering your vote will take you out of their jurisdiction for which you are operating in a state of delusional insanity.
Only an insane "person" will think he can be the 'product' of a corporation. After all they have a storage place built JUST for people like you.
gorgeousdzastr 2 weeks ago
@Jeffersonwazright Besides Of there were ZERO registered voters for their "corporation" it would cease to exist. You give them the power to do what they do by your vote by recognizing them in the first place.
Start a revolution YOU say.. makes YOU the problem not them. I guess someone with such a larger EGO wont be allowed to see it though.
Good luck with Armageddon, I mean YOUR "revolution". roflmao
