It was often played at the end of the set so that we could end with total noise and mayhem. rob would often kick over his drums Keith Moon style. Once during a performance, Kurt started getting a jolt of electricity from his guitar during the climax of Grim Reaper but no one noticed because they thought his flailing about was part of the performance (true story).
In fact the original reason for starting a band was to make soundtracks to the Super 8 horror flicks that Kurt, Rob and I used to make. But as we started to get into Punk (and then Hardcore), we decided to switch gears. I wrote the creepy Bass line and Rob the lyrics. Kevin brought his sax to one of the rehearsals and it all came together.
Actually the intention was not to "rip off" Flipper (though Rob & I did like them a lot). What we were doing was Dirge music (Hardcore style). If anything we were influenced by horror movie music, (like the Goblin's soundtrack for Dawn of the Dead or the music for Phantasm).
@espressozenmonkey hey, cool! i see rob every once in a while in harvard square and i always say hi to him. he's usually pretty spaced out but we have some good conversations together. usually about seth putnam, haha.
could listen to this all day long. unbelievable atmophere, the sax (trumpets? fuck, i dont't care, i love it, and i'm drunk) is such a nice addition to the sound.
