@SuperRanmafan Urusei Yatsura is the name of the series. Loosely translated it's "Those obnoxious Aliens." Essentially, it is the series that launched Rumiko Takahashi's career. When it ran its course, she began work on Ranma 1/2, although the anime version had to wait several years until the Maison Ikkoku anime series ended (Maison Ikkoku was drawn by Takahashi at the same time that she was doing Urusei Yatsura).

well i didn't know who lum and ataru were so i look them up, and boom

and instant Urusei Yatsura fan

@TheGigiTIGER I was the other way around. I watched (and read) Urusei Yatsura first, and learned about Ranma 1/2 shortly afterwards. I liked it at first (Ranma), but found that having everything be a martial arts competition to be kind of monotonous. Besides, Lum is the perfect character. Nobody beats her anywhere.

I must agree on the Ranma subject because it did become a repetition of itself after a while. AND LUM IS THE BEST character in this world and the next, and that's what i liked about Urusei Yatsura, that the story changes and there's character development.... I suggest you watch/read Maison Ikkoku (another great work from Rumiko). I feel like the story is a little more well organised than Urusei Yatsura, and it's also one of the best romance manga of its time <----No exaggeration.

@TheGigiTIGER Yes, I'm familiar with Maison Ikkoku too. Seems like we share many similar likes and opinions about Takahashi's works, because I think that MI is her most balanced and emotionally interesting story. However, I'm most partial to UY, because of the varied characterizations and the strong leads. I've always found it rather interesting that Takahashi always considered that the male leads were the real protagonists of her titles (as I read in an interview, Ataru was the real lead ).

hahahaha i guess we do have many similar opinions on Rumiko's works, but the reason that i love Urusei Yatsura is the comical aspects of it. The story is pretty genius as well; I really don't mind the several plot holes it develops a long the way. Also people say that UY is too long and the endless filler episodes kinda ruin it, but i must say i kinda like them (they ARE pretty funny).... I don't know if you're familiar with One Pound Gospel? It's a great short manga

One of the things I like best about UY is the music and the great variety of musical styles you find in the opening/ending themes... disco, new wave, pure pop, and Pat Benatar-style arena rock like this song. I love the bilingual UY songs especially and this one is the best! Thanks for posting!
