  • You could have just uploaded the 1970 24h of Le Mans. Same thing, just with commentary.

  • Legend!

  • lol i loved that about Grid... you could always pass the slower class of cars haha

  • Why did you chop the video you dumbass?!

  • Fantastic !!

  • concordo com vc thenice !!!

o melhor filme de sempre sobre automobilismo !!!

  • Am I the only one that adores the "Funky Jazz Music?"

  • Okay, so, how come you don't show Steve McQueen behind the wheel at all? That's kinda what made the movie so awesome — you could tell it was really him driving!

  • the start of this race is epic!!!!

  • When racing cars and drivers had balls of steel.........brilliant!!

  • I love in 3.33 -3.50 <3

  • which car has that sound 0:43- 0:46?

  • @sandx123 That's one of the Porsche 917s.

  • Look at this farm, I mean, those cars and drivers passing DIRECTLY in front of their entries, I mean how cool is that???

    This is awesome as hell!

  • Wait was this the Nurburgring 24hrs or Circuit De la Sarthe? I'm confused -.-

  • What amazing machines, the noise, the looks, and the history in these cars.... I love em.

  • porsche ftw

  • Fantastic

  • I usually don't watch racing. But when Nick Mason tells me to watch racing, I fucking will.

  • @DontLookAtTheTurtle amen to that brother

  • @DontLookAtTheTurtle That's because Nick's own car appeared in that movie ( Ferrari 512 S # 7 ) which was destroyed during the film but it was restored afterwards ...

  • @DontLookAtTheTurtle - That's because Nick's own car ( F 512 S # 7 ) appeared in that movie , It was destroyed during the film but it was restored afterwards ...btw that crash scene is missing in these videos

  • Ah! Those were the days....

Cars were real cars. Men were real men and women really did make the sandwiches.

  • Such beautifull cars! Artwork!

  • Adoro a banda sonora :-)

  • What a great sound!

  • great! i would place here 100 likes if i could

  • Who manufactured the white car, #25? t looks like a Lola, maybe?

  • @arklat It's a Porsche 917LH.

  • I picked this up on Blu-Ray w/Papillon a week ago (stoked it's on blu now!!). Came home & started watching Le Mans. My girlfriend was nice enough to watch this one with me. @ 3:55 on this clip, she flipped & said: "Holy shit. That song makes me wanna drive fast! I want to drive to this fucking song! I have to get this song!" She found it on iTunes not long after we watched the movie. She's a badass to me now for not only liking the song but seriously enjoying the movie too. I'm definitely lucky!

  • half of that crazy sound from the Porsche flat 12 comes from the engine cooling fan perched on top of the engine. you will notice the Ferrari 5.0 v12 sounds nothing like that. it could also be the heads on the Porsche...hemispherical chamber with 2 valve per cyl. The Ferrari is more modern, 4 valves per cylinder arrangement.

  • @buschracing1 Absolutely right about the two valve hemi head against a 4 valve pentroof cmbustion chamber, it is also the fact the porsche is air cooled and a 12; if you listen to the factory BSA/Triumph Triple racebikes of the same era they were 2 valve air cooled hemis reving to 8,500 rpm and they have an exhaust note very similar in tone.

  • If there was a tv station that had no announcer, just 24/7 images of racing of any era or type, I would be in ecstasy.

  • le mans remake movie ???, link

  • @Bremza Lemans movie remake ? Egad, I hope not. Hollywood is really running out of ideas and making lots of shitty remakes.

  • Driving circuit de la carthe at night, in the rain, going about 200 mph man thats scary. BTW 6:48 sexy downshift

  • The start of the race is one of the best movie scenes from all movies for me?

  • 3:37 wwwwooooopppppp bah wooooooooooppppp. I love this film already and it has'nt even arrived in thre post yet :)

  • I always listen for the birdsong at 1:26. Those cops at the track's edge sure pulled a plumb job. Few finer sights in all of motor racing than 1970 917's, especially Vic Elford's longtail, coming towards the camera.

  • @Pihasanddunes1

    Agreed.

  • I watched this movie the other night and have to say it may have no dialog but sometimes just good editing and a camera can tall a story itself that way. I mean the various camera angles in this movie are incredible and I heard they shot all 24 hours of the race!!!

  • 4 People don't know how to drive.

  • has a female ever won 24hrs of la mans?

  • @TheSonjaxfactor no but 2011 was one on 3rd in gtam

  • best racing movie i've seen. less talking and more racing!! thats how it should be!!

  • I remember seeing this at the movies when I was a kid. Greatest racing movie of all time. Gulf 917's rule!

  • now that's real racing, with real race cars, 917 greatest car ever

  • You ruined the song and the scenes that go with it with that stupid editing. I'm sorry but that was meant to be with the song in it which perfectly suits the scene...

  • Awesome!thx for posting..mcqueen actually ran in this race..#40 908 coupe..

  • FORZA!

  • @ZBone12 All racing games are gay.

  • @Subsw00fers You sir are wrong.

  • @Subsw00fers It beats soccer, football and any other sport which involves a ball.

  • half car racing, half steve mcqueen walking around :D

  • Does anyone know what the #25 White Car is? Wheater it's a Ferrari,Porsche, etc. ? thx !

  • @addaboy88088 Porsche 917 Longtail...driven by Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens, Jr.

  • Some say that The Stig is an exact clone of Steve McQueen

  • Best storyline / plot ever created.

  • The best racing movie ever , period...!!

Too bad the funky jazz music comes in & interferring with the music of engines:(

  • i dont get it.. who are we suppose to be following here?

  • @CrashBandikoot7 Not who are we following but what: We are following an art form perfected. When we watch this film, we should ask, can this art (automobile racing) be made any more beautiful than this? There are those who would argue (I am one) that these cars, at this track, at that time was as beautiful as this sport can be made. Auto racing can be made more expensive, more technical, even faster, but it is hard to imagine how it can be more beautiful. The medium has been perfected.

  • @gurlsingerfan Oh, I totally agree with you friend. But I figured since it's a movie, there should be characters at least, no? This is basically just watching a Le Manns race that was shot very nicely.

  • @CrashBandikoot7 There actually is a central character (other than the Porsche 917), the character played by Steve McQueen. Who said "there is only racing, all else is waiting."? McQueen doesn't say a lot in the film, but he doesn't really have to, his face and body language conveys so much and he "waits" better than anyone. A critic once said of McQueen in the movie "Bullitt", "he has the uncanny ability to seem both totally on the edge and totally relaxed at the same time" same in Le Mans.

  • @gurlsingerfan Yeah thats who I was looking for in this video, but didn't see. Not even a glimpse. That final Bullitt chase scene looked serious. But these movies are all not from my generation.

  • My dad told me he was over the whole "sports" car craze..... then he drove a 911 and hasn't been the same since.

  • Great video! Is it the 24hr Circiut De La Sarthe that's in the movie?

  • @AphxTwn666 Yes... my suggestion would be to netflix the movie.. or basically get a copy. Every car nut I know has a copy of this movie...to their library collection.

  • @JuergenGDB i really want this movie..but i cant find it, i wanna look for it on foot then go take on the internet. jeez this movie is beast!!!

  • @AphxTwn666 You can find the movie for 11.00 dollars at Amazon.com or even Blue Ray. Its worth the money. Hell I watch this movie like 3 times before the Le Mans race comes to TV. Another good movie is Gran Prix... another awesome Classic that is about F1.... another must have.

  • beautiful job of editing. I'm glad there's another person in the world who hates those who muck up close up racing with voice and weak plots. Lap 2 with the music is tolerable .. at least its not hard rock. The film managed to break 2 or 3 film companies, as i understand it. With the greatest humility possible, MIGHT i suggest that the long tail's exit from its first pit stop, may be the most beautiful sound in the whole film. Beautiful Job, seriously.

  • @paganmopper The music you hear in clip here.. is the original sound and music score from the movie.

  • 7:26 - Epic sound... :O

  • The cinematography is brilliant in this film. The camera angle at 2:17 when they are coming down the hill to mulsane corner is my all-time favorite.

  • The best race track! Here are some of my videos on Le mens track:

    /watch?v=CZi2FzfBnEA

    /watch?v=0poS9wNDIl0

    /watch?v=iXEKGaYAuCs

  • it's not the speed that kills IT'S THE SUDDEN STOP.

  • Bella gnocca ad 8:44

  • Thanks to GT5 for let me learn this fantastic Track inside out!

Time now to get a GT40 and hit the road on PS3..

  • the sound coming from that Porsche at 3:38 to 3:49 is incredible!!!! Porsche 917 the best race car in history of motorsport!!!

  • srry i mean i love 0:00-9:08

  • i love the rivalry between the Ferrari 512s and the Porsche 917s in this movies.0:00-9:00.i love these classic car movies like Grand Prix,Smokey and the Bandit,Cannonball 1 and 2 and Dukes of Hazzard

  • in car video with the sound up full and I feel like I am driving :-)

  • 7:23 ahhh

  • 3:39 - 3:50. Best sound i ever heard.

  • Check out this scene + trance buildup!

    youtube.com/watch?v=fi4Y5pkvd3U

  • I saw this movie last weekend. Nothing but car porn.

  • i just love the Porsche 917

  • Determined McQueen driving!!!!!!

    great movie.

  • Greatest racing movie ever. Why screw it up with your lousy editing. Leave the legend alone.

  • the best movie 'bout races

  • dialogues are for pussies

  • and with no chicanes of Mulsane straight ... 400 km/h on narrow road with grass and sand on side and small Armcoo barierr ... kick ass !!

  • 4 ppl didnt get driver licence..

  • DOn't even think of comparing the Carrera GT to the Porsche 917.

  • Always heard the longtail(langheck?) was harder to drive on really fast tracks.

  • Le Mans 24h as it is

  • the young woman with the yellow sweater is really pretty!

  • White 917 nr.25, Quick Vick Elford, incredible!!!!

    Stay healthy Vic!!

  • Great video,fantastic cars

  • whats the name of the awesome song??

  • this is the best racing film still

  • great movie.

these were REAL racing cars and drivers. not today's computerized and pussified nintendo f1.

  • 917 / 512 / GT 40 / P 33 / MATRA

    MAΓΙΚΑ ΟΝΟΜΑΤΑ / ΜAGIC NAMES

  • you can even smell the lead in the fuel!

  • Poetry in motion.

  • What's name of this piece by Legrand (starting at about 4 mins) ?

  • @SimRacingUkraine The Race, First Laps .... no joke, thats the name

  • @vivaSchumi7

Thanks. I already found it. Great track.

  • These cars with that funky soundtrack....perfect.

  • i wish thay had this track in gran trauismo

  • @dvpkid

You want forza 3. you can also drive the ferrari from this film.

  • petrol head porn

  • Best shifing sound ever at 3:34

  • 3:34-3:51 is just amazing the sound of that 917 long tail is the best in car sound ever

  • A bird at 1:29 said something... (917 fantastic!)

  • Amazing, I love it. I read that the camera car was a Ford GT40 with the roof removed for the camera. It was the only car that could keep up!!

  • It's a shame that Van Lennep en Markko lost the record. I don't like the Audi's or Peugeot. At least Aston is trying to make an efford to look like a Porsche 917.

  • 3:57-6:30 epic

  • @thegov1020

you know what's the name of that song?

  • You could've at least left the in-cockpit shots of McQueen.

  • I could happily watch this film every time there is a "Grand Prix" on the TV. The muscular sound of the fabulous Porsche 917 is just music to my ears, the cars twitch about, the whole thing is just magnificent. I remember watching some of the 1970 race on TV and being stunned at the speed of the top cars on the Mulsanne. Motor racing is just so anaemic today. Thank God for yesteryear

  • @MJPO1000 what is anemic and i wish i could have been alive to watch the older ones ha but im just starting to get into this gran prix stuff so im still new. only 14 by the way

  • I haven't seen every racing movie ever made, but of those I've seen, this one has by far the best race sequences. You do feel like you're right there. Better than almost than live coverage. Thanks for sharing this. One of my favorite movies ever.

  • Had Steve McQueen raced in the actual event, we'd have an extra American Le Mans winner...

  • The pits are so slow...too funny, and no gloves...lol! Le Mans is a great, legendary race, but the pit work has always sucked.

  • @stableshadow It's a endurance not a sprint. If you lose some time in the pits than you can make it up on the track, you've got 24 hours!!

  • @stableshadow Back when men were men and spectators were scared!

  • @JuergenGDB And all film scores were groovy!

  • @stableshadow Yep... things were good! Although today the cars are very spectacular.. just severely regulated. Cheers!

  • God, the 917s!

  • and this is 1970!

  • The sound of absolute power at 3:35 that 917 longtail is BAD ASS!! the Ferrari 512 is sweet to.. gotta love the classic rawness of this film. modern cars just do not sound the same.

  • I loved that move THX1138

  • I love how you've distilled the movie down to the racing sequences. So damn entertaining.

  • Yes, the sound is really awesome!!!

Brave Vic Elford was the first driver who drives an average of 240 km/h at Le Mans!!He would earn winning at Le Mans!!

    Greetings from lower bavaria

  • Although Stommelen was the first to break 350 km/h top speed the year before - both with the same co-driver though, who retired shortly after this with hardly anyone remembering him at all.

I've always had a soft spot for him though, because he drove Frank Costin's wooden chassis Protos F2 car, as did - Vic Elford! It all comes 'round in a circle. Go figure.

  • Here's a question for all you car loving film buffs out there.

What was the make of car seen being driven by Robert Duvall in George Lucas' movie 'THX1138'? (Dystopian view of a future society living underground...)

I watched it years ago and I do remember the car looking similar to one of these Le Mans racers however it sounded like a gas turbine - which was probably added in post production.

  • It was a 917 "replica" kit car made by Fiber Fab.

  • @TK42138 I beleive it was a Lola

I'm not sure which model though

  • @fueldragster

    Cheers for info.

  • @TK42138 It was a Lola T70

  • @jennifersman

    Thanks for info.

  • 917s going past Maison Blanche. Epic.

  • Absolutely.

  • @PihaSandDunes what time on the video?

  • @cortesbugslayer. Vic Elford in the white 917 Longtail goes through the old Maison Blanche section between 3:22 and 3:28. Awesome overhead shots.

  • @PihaSandDunes 3:39 to 3:40 EXACTLY, for that one second only, is the greatest sound I have ever heard in this lifetime.

  • Yes! That vicious-sounding gear change! I also love the sound right before; that brutal flat-12 snarling in protest when Elford downshifts for the chicane! The 917 Porsche has to be one of the most glorious-sounding racing cars in history.

  • @galoon Yes. Absolutely vicious. Great word for the sound. Stunning. Wild. Beautiful.

  • from that 5 ltr.,600+ BHP,Bosch K fule injected, 9000 RPM, flat 12 engine!

  • The hell with NASCAR,this is what real racing is all about.any redneck can drive in a circle and turn left. Also,NASCAR's cant drive on the road, these cars can. Also,in the movie, the drivers/cars are not billbords for Recees cups or HOME DEPOT,Just oil and tire companies, like it should be.Plus, lets see any NASCAR drivers drive in rain/dark without track lights, just those high beams on the cars.NASCAR SUCKS!

  • Well said.

  • Thank you.BTW,Im looking into getting a replica 917 from race-car-replicas.c..(in the number 21 car Mc Queen drove)to bad one of those fantasic flat 12's are not available(at least for less than the the cost of the stimulus bill). But I wll drop in a 3.8ltr twin turbo in it,good for about 480 HP.Cant wait to pull up to the gas pumps in that!

  • @owlcritic

I've seen 917's at Goodwood Festival Of Speed and standing next to one when it starts up is amazing and just a little bit scary....

  • Man,that would be so awsome,Id give any thging to see and hear the real deal, live.

  • I don't think the 917's flat 12 could be any more orgasmic

  • Yeah 66and04, that lontail 917 pulling onto the straight at the end of the first lap was always my favourite bit too! They really were proper racing cars back then. What a brilliant film.

  • @Wobbletron , The longtail 917 did not finish the race either!

  • Did u make this on Movie Maker? I am having a bit of trouble plz help?

  • The sound the Porsche makes at 3:39 is amazing!!! Gives me chills every time i hear it.

  • Totally agree. That engine sounds like the universe being jumpstarted or 'The Stig' gargling with magnesium....

  • As is edited here is as how I always watched the film. It was only the noises and the race footage that I was interested in. Thank you for posting this! What a fantastic film, if only for immortalizing the epic sound of a flat 12 917 at full song!!

  • Vic Elford rules!!

  • iss these movie good?

  • the best racing movie ever made for sure, it is all about the race and we dont see this king of race anymore

  • @Albertomexico1 true but i think Grand Prix is also right up there.

  • @erwinruys yea it is; Grand Prix is a damn good movie. Thank God they have not made a new version of either movie. Yet.

  • @luisronaldofigo hmm let's say yes xd

  • @luisronaldofigo if your a racing fan than this is one of two movies you have to see. This is "Le Mans`` from 1970 I think. And Grand Prix from 1966. Two truly wonderful and truthful movies about motor racing.

  • @f1matt Unless you dig the "Fast and the Furious". In that case, I wont recomend it.

  • @luisronaldofigo yeees, it is pretty good? but it has too much talking:(

  • @keravankauhu I had a girlfriend watch it with me once and she said "There isn't a real story...it's just pretty much racing...", to which I replied, "duh...yeah, that's what makes it so great." :-)

  • @gurlsingerfan lol even though i agree with you on that, i bet thats part of why you said "you had" cause your making her watch racing movies with no story haha

  • @CrashBandikoot7 hee, hee, yeah....she never really took to my TV set being tuned to SPEED channel 24 hours a day! :-)

  • @gurlsingerfan haha if they cant hang, let them walk

  • @luisronaldofigo The story kind of sucks but who cares, the racing, the cars and the way it was captured on film is mind blowing.

  • love the opening laps- pure cinematic genius-esp. back then

  • the sound of god
