Ah yes! Sebastian in the 70's. Load the boards on the ol' 63 VW and "head up north". No stop lights from Ft. Pierce to the Inlet. 1st Peak, Monster Hole, Spanish House = good times. But my home break, North Jetty = best times. Miss the ol' A frame next to the Jetty. Still comes around once in while, but rare. Forty years later, still get the butterflies in the stomach when I know there's a swell. I'm lovin' it! See ya' in the water.
Stubbies had a contest at Sebastian Inlet in the late 70's or early 80's. I remember watching Ross Pell's heat....outreageous. 6 -7foot perfection. Another contest was ther and I saw Bud Laamas do a backside air I'll never forget, at least 5 feet out,WOOOOOOOOOOOW. I gotta get down there someday...naaaa some local will kick my old ass, LOL LOL LOL
It's funny how everone says that 1st peak does not work anymore and I admit that it is not exactly the same but looking at this footage of smaller days, it really is not that different. Have been surfing the peak consistantly since 1980. Does anyone have footage of 1st peak going off from back in the day????? Thought I might find some here but I guess not....
You want good footy from back in the day when 1st peak was in it's prime? ...Ever heard of "Palmetto Drive"? Well, in case you didnt know, "Palmetto Drive" is the name of the entrance road on the North side of the Inlet. ....Also the name of the best all-Inlet surf video ever. It's from the early to mid-nineties and almost impossible to find. -a little tip...ask the 40-somethin' dude that works at Longboard House about it. You might have some luck. Maybe you won't. ..........W4L
I think I recognize John Futch, maybe Jeff Klugal, and Jackie Grayson in this video. Anyone else out there look familiar?
