Decelerating the guy was the way to go, but Magic works as well. It'll just take you longer with that strategy, considering your best mages are Virginia and Gallows.
@Jaymonius If you leave him alone, he'll just spam disorder (or passes)... as this video shows.
If you decelerate him, he'll pretty much start spamming eliminate scanner (actual damage), and tri-injury (no particularly effective, but harder to heal and still annoying)... as well as the occasional disorder for good measure.
He's not particularly threatening either way, but I personally think he gets more out of decelerate than he loses, so it's better to just magic nuke.

Yeah, that's what you're supposed to do to Malik, you slow him down, which makes him more easier to kill.
