When you buy things that are 100% made in America they cost a lot. I wouldn't want to pay another $100 to have it come to me seam sealed. I will do it my self. Kifaru is Top notch quality!!
I own a similar tipi tent by a different manufacture with the stove jack attached to the side of the tent. Using the sealing method described above is excellent! I use this method on all my tents and I can tell you - there is no tent that doesn't leak! They all need their seams sealed. After the silicone mixture cures after two days I use a small feather duster well powdered with baby powder that contains talc and put it on thick on all places where there is silicone to prevent sticking.
I am dismayed after seeing this video. There is no reason for a allegedly high quality manufacturer such as Kifaru, to require such a negligent and possibly dangerous endeavor to be conducted by the consumer. "it requires the tipi to be fully erected" that you cannot do it in your own facility due to size constraints yet expect the consumer to do so is unprofessional. Due to this clear lack of professionalism it makes myself and I am sure many others reconsider buying any of your products.
I was so so close to pulling the trigger on a late season pack and 4 man tipi stove setup. I'm starting to think that this company is super greedy, I know the packs are great but are extremely expensive, this 4 man small tipi tarp is so expensive you would think maggie comes with it as the cook. I really can't believe it's not sealed and ready to go. I'm certainly not buying the tipi and am considering not buying the pack just because of the greedy nature of the owner. My money now goes to MR.
Nothing like being to friggin greedy. The 4 man is over 800.00 dollars, and they don't come seam sealed???? WHAT A JOKE. and a small stove will only cost u another measly 300.00. Tell u what, this naysayer has tents much cheaper that came seam sealed and do the job. withtout water dripping on my gear thank u
Kifaru should seal these before they ship them out. It's really pathetic that they don't. It's obviously an issue as here we are watching a video on how to do it.
As far as doing it yourself, "so you know it's done right," well why stop there? Why don't they just send you some needle and thread and tell you to make it yourself? Dumb
to the naysayers, this isn't your average North Face douchebag tent, its expedition in nature, I would think anyone watching this and interested in it, would know the value of what the were looking at, and in addition would appreciate the fact of waterproofing their own tent so you know it's done right.
As you can see by the video, the Tipi must be erected in order to seam seal. That would be a drain on manpower, raise the price even further, and we would be at the mercy of the elements as it has to be done in fair weather, outside (the Tipi in this video is permanently pinned to the concrete floor as a showpiece.).
I absolutely agree. The materials are cheap and the time to sew a few panels is not much. For the extreme profit made on these tents they should "tape" seal these tents before shipping.

If you can't seal your own tent then you shouldn't be in the backcountry. I've sealed every tent I've owned, "factory sealed" or not.

@weissisright
You make no sense. If it was "expedition" it would come fully seam taped.
ALL the top expedition tents come fully seam taped and is a LOT more labor intensive and more advanced material.

I don't understand, you're paying a lot of money for one of this, yet is not water proof? I don't think I'm going to purchase one of these.

Use some of that sealer on the duct tape behind you on the HVAC

Ok, this tent is over $1k. Why should the purchaser be obligated to seal the seams?
You need to find a way to do this before shipping the product.

I hope this helps... Maggie

@Kifarutube I just noticed your response to what I and others have said.
Maggie, That's a pretty darn lame excuse.
I hate to rag on your product, especially since I don't own one, but it's totally unacceptable not to seal the seams.
