no, fdr's policies did hardly anything to lessen the depression. the economy didn't improve until WWII, when jobless americans were enlisted in the army.

Yes, but you also can't ignore the huge role that government spending had in bringing the country out of the depression. While WW2 may have ended the depression, it was Roosevelt's reforms during the war that allowed soldiers returning home to ease into a suburban lifestyle(buying homes on credit, massive interstate highway systems allowing for residential expansions etc.) It was these reforms that created America's vast middle class and economic prosperity up until the 70's.

If the middle class is to come back after this downturn it will need something like card-check or mandatory arbitration. If left to the companies the stock holders and company management will do well but the worker who actually makes the product will get a minimum wage and no health coverage. (they'll get screwed)
