  • can a person do nail designs with regular nail polish and put clear nail gel on top for them to be protected since you mentioned that the nails harden after a while??

  • I love this video. I hate tips and during the summer I always pay to get my nails wrapped and every 2 weeks I get fill ins. I spend a lot of money on my nails during that time, but thanks to you ;) I can now buy this kit, pay the $ one time and do it myself. You're awesome and I will definitely come back to this video as a guidance when I'm doing it

  • You dont have to use tips when you do this do you?

  • Thanks so much for this video (very helpful). I would love it if u would do more videos on using gel (how to remove, fill-ins, how to use the colored gels & how to use regular polish). Any tips or tricks u have would be very helpful.

  • Thanks for the video. I know how to do acrylic, but I'm new to gels and this was really helpful.

  • Luv this video!

  • Thank You So Much for making this AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!

  • @9:20 i love how yeww explin thizz u did an awsome job u hve talent

  • Hello, Sorry this comment is so late just saw the video I have a question? Did u ever experience lift from the gel by the cuticle after applying the nail polish? I had a set done professionally and the gel started lifting after they applied the nail polish. They fixed it. It was a soak off gel. I think the gel you have to file of might be more durable. I don't know. What do you think?

  • Thank you,

  • ok i did the refill and buffed it then painted with regulr nail polish....let it dry and put the ibd clear gel on it....put it under the lamp for 2 minutes and then went to wipe the excess off with ibd nail cleanser and some of the nail polish came off!!!! what did i do wrong? any advice

  • @MamacitaDulce u need gel..u dont use regular polish u hve to get the coor u want in gel

  • ok i did the refill and buffed it then painted with regulr nail polish....let it dry and put the ibd clear gel on it....put it under the lamp for 2 minutes and then went to wipe the excess off with ibd nail cleanser and some of the nail polish came off!!!! what did i do wrong? any advice

  • Great tutorial! I do have a question what if I change my polish regularly? Do I just stop at the clear builder gel and use my polish and top coat? Since I don't have a drill to remove the gel...I have these gels from the introductory IBD kit

  • @ScarletPhoenix1981 I don't really understand what you are asking. What do you mean by stop at the clear builder? Can you explain a little more so that I can help you?

  • Re: yes thank you for the information on the gel. And I will check the overlays out and keep you updated! Thanks

  • wat about if you dont have anythin on ur nails to staart off?

  • @Berri3Blossom You can add short tips. Even if you only have like a 1/2 inch of nail you can still do an overlay. I always start with next to nothing.

  • this video is awesome.. NOW I want to gel my nails..lol

  • @FancyLibra27 I love gels. GOFOR IT. lol

  • kenya, What if you dont have a special light can you use a regular lamp?

  • @MsPreciousHoney You have to use the watt uv lamp or the gel won't cure ( harden).

  • MsKenya what dont u do? Nails, blinged out brushes, makeup and etc! U go girl!

  • @TheMACFanatic LOL. Thank you

  • I have gotten "gel" nails done and all they did was a regular set with the acrylic powder and liquid then applied the UV top coat and stuck me under the lamp :( I so did not know they wasn't really gel gel nails. Thanks for the video... I'm going to invest in doing my own.

  • I guess, I've been ripped off in the past as well. I've been to different shops and they all do it the same way. Powder and some liquid then they just do the uv gel top coat. I'm investing and going to learn how to do my own nails. Will save money in the long run. I'm upset that we've been giving those people all our money and the equipment isn't all that expensive.

  • @Montreals714 Yes start doing them yourself. You will save sooo much money that way. Plus I think it's fun. like doing my own nails and creating fun nail art. It's a investment that is so worth it. And you will find that you don't need a fill as often. They always say when you want something done right you gotta do it yourself.

  • omg i think i been gettin ripped off at the chinese shop! when i tell them i want gel, they just use a powder and then that uv top coat. im assuming the powder is just plain acrylic...but they hand write "gel" on the container with the powder in it...hmmm

  • @msimani13 Oh wow. If its a powder it is deff not gel. Gel is a jelly like material. Oh wow. They are giving you the cheaper acrylic overlay with the gel top coat. oh that is so dead wrong of them. I'm angry that they did that to you. See they get away with mess like that when they think people don't know. You should ask them. Anything that is mixed with a liquid and powder is ACRYLIC. Gel is clear, comes in a jar and has to be applied with a synthetic brush either orange in color or white.

  • oh isee saw this second and the other video first.

  • there are one step gels that donot require all those stepsand do the exact same thing. this is great tut but the nail shops donot follow all the steps and i know that is the way you do it but i am a nail specialist in the state of florida so i like you style

  • @10versus Thank you. Ok so let me ask you something. Is there a brand of gel that works better than all the rest? And is there a difference between the pre spray for gels ( the sanitizer) and a regular pre cleanse that you use before you get started? I have one from cosmetology school but I saw one that came with the gel kit that I bought. Also can you use any standard 9 watt light with SHALAC. I was told by a sales girl that you had to use a specific lamp I looked and the watts were the same.

  • @MzKenyaNoelle hey girl! I do nail tutorials and saw your question:-) There is a difference between brands but it depends on what type works best for your application method. Some on thicker and harder to work with. I've used a few but prefer soak off gels for home use. There isn't a difference in pre-cleansers. Companies just make their own. Shellac will only work with a 36 watt lamp, you can try a 9 watt but the cure time has to be doubled.

  • What about continuous application? Im nt to savy to do them myself YET LOL

  • @SuckaFreeDotCom Not exactly clear on what you mean. But anytime you apply a product like gels or acrylic over you nails you risk the possibility of ruining the nail bad due to filing. If you've ever seen nail after acrylics and gels have been removed the look dry and chipped. After a while it does wear your nail bed down, which is why I love the new SOAK OFF gels. You don't have to file them off, so less damage tot he nail bed. Once you start you kinda have to keep going.

  • Respond to this video...your nails get use to the gels. they get addicted. LOL. I you already have nice strong nails I would recommend something that does not have to filled off. I would find a nail strengthener. I get overlays because my natural nails are weak. They grow about 2-3 inches and then stop and start chipping. When my nails are covered with the overlay they grow like crazy. It's not for everyone. Let me know how you make out.

  • Can u PLEASE tell me how the gel falls or chips off?? I love the idea since I have long nails im scared to ruin them thanx

  • @SuckaFreeDotCom They don't really do either. LIke anything on your nails there is normal wear and tear. But I like the gels vs acrylic because you can apply one thin layer to your natural nails and they will still look natural instead of thick like the acrylic . Another good thing that they have now are the SOAK OFF gels which I think are great. Less filing on the nails , less damage to the nail bed. Gels are a more flexible material which is why they don't chip like acrylic. Hope this helps

  • omg thanks for the tutorial. i'm mad that this is like one of the things that i didn't learn in cosmetology school, we just did acrylics. since i've never had gels i always wanted to try them but i guess i'll have to just go for it an try it.

  • @yungbraidingdiva1 I know exactly what you mean. Not sure if you know this but I am currently a cosmetology student. And we did nails already but nothing about gels. So I had to learn on my own. I think gels are so much easier and better than acrylic. I am going to do another video to compare the two. You should try it. The supplies are not that expensive. Once i've mastered the IDB system I am going to move up to the one made by OPI which is quite pricey but it will be worth it.

  • @MzKenyaNoelle girl yea i knew you were in cosmetology school lol. i got my license last year in high school since my high school was vocational and they had the program i just took it lol. i definately might be investing in this system pretty soon to give it a try though!

  • Respond to this video...They have SOAK OFF gel colors now which are so neat. I can't wait to try those. I think once I get over my wonder woman mac craze I will get some more nail supplies. LOL. Thank you for watching.

  • I might have to try this :) I'm sure my right hand would be looking all kinds of crazy though!! Lol!

  • @tamekauh LOL. If i can do it you can do it. You just have to take your time. LOL.

  • would you say gel is less harsh on your natural nails?

  • @MakeupBySurinda No not really. To be honest none of it s exactly great for your nails. I would say gel is the lesser of two evils. It's more flexible than Acrylic which means the chances of lifting and fungal infection as less likely with the gels. I do like the gels allot more than acrylic. ALOT MORE LOL. So why do we put this on our nails if we know it's not great for them? Simple: Beauty is Pain/ Pain is Beauty. LOL. I tell me daughter that al the time. LOL

  • Thank you for doing this video. I have been doing this since I was 11...lol. I go to the nail salon occasionally but why when I can do it myself xoxo

  • @shouline I HEAR YOU.!!! This was my hustle all through college. LOL I made crazy money until the nail salons came out with airbrushing. Shhhesh talk about stopping a sista's flow. Once they saw airbrushing they figured why not get the whole thing done in the salon. Then they came out with all this other stuff that ran us free handed tech out. I too go to the salon from time to time. BUT NO MORE. It's so much beeter when you do them yourself. I hate when they don't do what I ask.

  • Great Video!! Is that drill as great as the ones in the Nail Salons?

  • @Nikki30263 Thank you & NO WAY!!! But it will do for at home jobs. It's not as powerful as theirs but it does do the job. The ones in the nail salons run by foot pedal which gives it crazy power. I wanted one of those but opted for this one until I learned how to control it without drilling off my finger LOL.
