  • Hi Simon! Thanks so much for the wonderful tour! And thanks for all your great demos! I also would love to see a demo of the 220 jugs! Perhaps Johnny now has a new name for these lovely pots!.....Suzon

  • I too would love to see the demonstration of the jugs at 220. Amazing..I have it sketched out for my pottery teacher but he will be in France for another month.

  • Simon, How does John get the white line on the gray pots on the table alongside the kiln? Are they sagger fired?

Warm regards from Debbie in Florida

  • Beautiful and awe-inspiring! Those gorgeous jugs at about 2:30 remind me of hens sitting. (abstract, tallish hens)... If I learn how to make that jug, I'll be working on feathers next.... Thanks Simon!! Great show!

  • ahh, correction, it was in the 2:20 range, you know the ones, someone else wants to see you teach them too!

  • 35 hours of feeding that monster!!! You need a lot of 'volunteers'.....

Ah, apple brandy. I think that's the same as Calvados in France, is it not? I've used mine up. :o(

  • Simon - can you maybe show us sometime how those jugs with the off-center mouth and large handle (shown at 2:13 - 2:27) are made? Those are really neat!! Thanks for the great tour!

i wayed my clay at pond and a half. but i think it may of been too mutch. i was not geting consistent matching shapes. some thicker. some taller. so i just scrape dthe idea and just threw the bowls anyways. how mutch clay do you use..in pounds?

  • How do they move those kiln doors????

  • Doors on kilns like that one tend to be loose bricks that they set into the opening just before they fire. This allows for one or more peep hole bricks that they can pull out to check inside during a firing. :)

  • Thanks for taking us on this tour. The kiln is awesome. The pottery is inspiring and beautiful. Wow! I sure would like to attend one of those "Open Days". Cheese, fish, cider, pottery.... Who could ask for more?

  • Very Impressive!!! wooohooo!!!!

Someday, when I grow up, I would love to love to travel to the UK and tie in with a work shop with you in Spain (two birds so to speak). What time of year is the big HOT POTS Event in Muchelney?

Thank you Simon, You're the best!!!

    Laura from Indiana

ps. I'll never grow up....6 months younger than you. Very young in pottery years...lol

  • what kind of bricks do you you to make a high fire wood kiln?you should make the gas kiln you said you were going to make like two years ago.

  • Very interesting tour, thanks Simon. The open day sounds like great fun!

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Oh how I love seeing Muchelney, and John's work!

One of my all time favorites is the cross over handled jug or bottle of John's.

Ooooh the glazes on these are really lovely!

Thank you so much for sneeking around and giving us peek, Simon!

The kiln is magnificent, what a treasure.

    Hope all is well.

Doing horse hair firing in a couple of hours better go switch the kiln again.

Say hello to that cute brother of yours, for me will you, haha!

  • Hello Simon,

I am interested in building my own wood fire kiln but I am limited on space and resources. Do you have any literature you would recommend on the subject?

Thank you for a lovely tour of your bruv's pottery. Amazing.

  • Gorgeous pots.

  • Thank you Simon and Johnny. I've never seen a three chamber kiln except in books.

  • What a magnificent beast!
