if im in paris, i would want to sit in one of its beautiful parks, read a good book and just enjoy the place... and take thousands of pictures of course! =D
I have no idea why Lonely Planet would let such a boring presenter paint Paris for potential tourists. She does a lousy job and manifests zero zeal for a country renowned for its passionate eccentric natives. Do over. Ug!
Wow! I thought that art squat had gotten shut down! I'm so glad that's not the case. I went there when I was about 14 with my art class, and that was in 2004 while this was filmed (or at least posted) in 2008. It's such an incredible place! Definitely go there if you see it!

Yeah maybe the people that pass you by on the streets can be a little annoying and cold, but if you just smile, say hello and act polite then they'll be the same with you.
I met a lot of amazing people when i was there. But my god was it ever dirty, not as clean as you see it in pictures XD
@3x0rcyst3m Paris was spotless when I was there in the winter of 2005. I didn't see ANY rubbish on the streets and it smelled fine. I don't know what everyone is talking about when they say it is dirty. It's not. It's clean and the people are friendly like you say. It's all about giving respect first, in order to receive it.
Hello From America, very interesting film, I been to Paris a few times, made some tour videos of the city and also Cannes and Nice, please go to Google type in european tour videos this will direct you to web site's on line viewing
People make too big of a deal over Paris. It's not THAT much better than any other big city, and after you're there for a while it looks the same as anywhere else.

this bitch is on cocaine, she's stupid, and she needs to enunciate her words - could hardly understand what she was saying. Lonely Planet couldn't do better?
Just back form Paris .. it's amazing and what she says is SO true.if if you go expecting rudenes and arrogand people that what you get no mather where u are in wolrd..
I didn't had one rude frenchie or one frenchie who refused to speak english, the other way arround. if your start in simple french even if don't know more and say the rest in english they will join you..and I LOVED the city .. J' Adore Paris...
yep that's the parisian thing (at least that's what i do) if the person doesn't even bother to say bonjour or excusez moi in french and speaks directly in english i pretend i only speak french... so funny!
aaahhh so that the trick lol !! I found the formula whit out knowing .. well i love the language so i like to practice ..hope to be back soon.. u live in Paris ..?
@silverrocket75 Yeah french ppl would ignore other french people who dont politely greet with Bonjour, au revoir, merci. Just like any other country one needs to learn whats is considered polite in a specific country.
J'Adore Paris!!! I've just returned from Paris and not only was it loovely but so was the people! Everyone was helpful and offered their assistance even though they understood little english...i left my heart there and it is a city for lovers ^^ i wanna go back!
what????? didnt you notice frenchies peeing on streets? I was so disgusted I went back to Nice, but the only train was to marseille. and how friendly is frenchie? I wanted to buy a train ticket to Nice, I was speaking english and this girl started talking in french. I said "I only speak english" and she arrogantly said "yeah, me too". damn frenchie.
and then out of the blue she showed me on screen a train that goes in the evening. it was morning, I was already waiting for two hours. then she finally said in english that the next train is full. oh, thank you. I was pissed and simply left. if you see a tourist with luggage that nicely says "hello, a ticket for Nice", why going on with french? the world wont end if I dont learn french for ONE trip. now france is on my blacklist of countries to avoid.
so they should learn english bcuz tourists who COME to their country need their help? I agree they should've been taught just some basic stuff during high school.. but most of the ppl who have English as their mother language dont bother to learn another language as well.. so why should we start learning their language, fi they dont even bother to just learn another language as well..? thats hypocrit.
Well said, Jordisverige! Everyone should learn at least one foreign language. "Everyone" includes "we, the French", and "them, the Americans". When I visit a country, the least I can do is learning a few words, enough to be polite with people, instead of "invading" them with my language. Thus, they become spontaneously friendly.
Thanks. Yes, every morning I walk to work and admire "my" city. Though, it should be much cleaner : All those doggie-walkers should take care of their pets' outcome... As for being rude, all French provincials consider the Parisians a bit like the average Americans consider New Yorkers : Always hurried, no time to smile or help. And agressive drivers too. Some of us try to compensate by helping visitors spontaneously !
the world doesn't need any more arrogant people like you
learn the dam language next time, bring a dictionary, nobody asked you to become fluent with it, but at least learn some. You're the arrogant, not her. If a foreigner comes to an English speaking country, we expect them to speak to us in English because we don't have the time to learn their language in our motherland, and in return YOU should learn their language too.
You know what, just don't travel at all, the world would be better
It's hard to think of a part of France that's NOT worth seeing. So far, I've only been to Lyon and Strasbourg, and enjoyed both. The whole of Provence is worth seeing, as is the Dordogne and the Loire.
you should really go to Nice, its such a beautiful city. its located in the southern parts of france , right next to the beach. its close to italy as well. during the summer it gets hot enough, but not too hot. the people are open minded and really nice..
I love Paris. I like a lot of cities, but i *love* Paris. The stuff about rude Parisians is wrong. I've seen lots of rude tourists, though!
If you've ever been to Paris...or if you've never been to Paris, check out the city on Street View in Google Earth. See Paris from ground level...all over the city. If you've been there, it'll bring back memories. If you haven't, it may make you want to start packing!
I love Paris too, except i've never been there. And yea I don't think Parisians are rude, although maybe since there culture is different then americans consider then rude. Like, I went to Italy about 3 months ago and people there thought I was rude, but in America people think i'm very well mannered. So it's not that Parisians are being rude, Americans just take things the wrong way.
I felt like i was in a fairy tale when i went there! People are nice, helpful, cultivated and beautiful. I love the atmosphere, the monuments, the shoping! it is my favourite city,
def' one of the most gorgeous in the World!
If you want a romantic trip, walk along the river, go to the islands, drink Champagne or wine!
It is the most visited city of the World: 30 million tourists each year! (cf: Wikipedia!)
I hadn't been so iterested in Paris before i finally went there. 4 wonderful days, it was one of my best trips!
Everyone had to go there at least once in a life time. It's huge and unique - and you will feel this special French atmosphere, it's in the air! Now i understand why it's the center of Art...because in Paris you want to create and be creative.
Thanks so much for posting this because it brings back such great memories I have from my first trip there at age 17. So true about the cliches. I felt that I was living my dream in this city. It was hot in the summertime, gay rights protest going on, workers strike, all happening while we were visiting the major museums and people watching from the cafes. I love Paris and can't wait to revisit after all these years.
