It's the YF-19. And that thing is the booster pack that allows the 19 to "fold", IE Jump into hyperspace, as seen in Episode 4 of Macross Plus or the last 15 minutes of Macross Plus: The Movie. Basically, it's how Isamu is able to get from the planet New Eden to Earth so damn fast.
