This is a dreadful fight. Two boxers cancelling each other out for 12 rounds. I don't think one good punch was landed by either man (I think the 'knockdown in the first round was loss of balance). I agree that Calzaghe was slapping, but Hopkins was far too negative. You get the impression that if Hopkins had 'had a go', instead of backing off all the time, then he could have won it. Therefore you have to give the decision to the boxer who's busy and wants to fight: Calzaghe.

Interesting how much emotions this still stirs. Good, narrow fight, difficult to score. I would have given it to Hopkins by a round or two as he did more damage, but can see why folks who put more weight on activity and aggression would score it otherwise. Hopkins had Calzaghe's number early on, but from the middle rounds Calzaghe showed good ring intelligence and adapted to BHops much better. Not many fighters can do this.

Hopkins was defo wining the first 4 rounds in my eyes but then he just started with the odd pot shot. People will see this fight to what they prefer. But as the fight went on you can't throwing one shot here and there beats work rate aggression and high volume of punches even though they were not powerful they still score. Hopkins just didn't do enough in the second part of the fight
Calzage won the fight pretty clearly I agree with Harold Letterman's score of 9-3 in rounds or 116-111 Calzage...B-hop was faking a foul to gain a rest which makes me believe he was looking for rest or hurt. I had this 114-114 with 2-6 being even. If someone had a gun to my head, I'd probably have Hopkins winning both of those rounds. I dislike giving even rounds, but this was difficult to score. In any case, I think Calzaghe at best drew with him or beat him by a point, but it's easier to see Hopkins winning it from an objective perspective due to clean and effective punching.

This is a dreadful fight. Two boxers cancelling each other out for 12 rounds. I don't think one good punch was landed by either man (I think the 'knockdown in the first round was loss of balance). I agree that Calzaghe was slapping, but Hopkins was far too negative. You get the impression that if Hopkins had 'had a go', instead of backing off all the time, then he could have won it. Therefore you have to give the decision to the boxer who's busy and wants to fight: Calzaghe.

Interesting how much emotions this still stirs. Good, narrow fight, difficult to score. I would have given it to Hopkins by a round or two as he did more damage, but can see why folks who put more weight on activity and aggression would score it otherwise. Hopkins had Calzaghe's number early on, but from the middle rounds Calzaghe showed good ring intelligence and adapted to BHops much better. Not many fighters can do this.

Hopkins was defo wining the first 4 rounds in my eyes but then he just started with the odd pot shot. People will see this fight to what they prefer. But as the fight went on you can't throwing one shot here and there beats work rate aggression and high volume of punches even though they were not powerful they still score. I had this 114-114 with 2-6 being even. If someone had a gun to my head, I'd probably have Hopkins winning both of those rounds. I dislike giving even rounds, but this was difficult to score. In any case, I think Calzaghe at best drew with him or beat him by a point, but it's easier to see Hopkins winning it from an objective perspective due to clean and effective punching.

Every time Bhop has fought an exceptional fighter near the top of their game & close to their best weight, he's lost. Namely Jones Jnr, Taylor & Calzaghe. He's only prevailed against smaller guys moving up the weights like Trinidad & De La Hoya because he was about 1 1/2 - 2 stone heavier than them by the time he walked in the ring. It's also strange how Bhop chose to stick around at middleweight fighting nobodies in the 90's when he only had to put on 6 or 7 pounds to ............
