The reason they picked kid rocks guitarist to play is because Metallica let kid rock use sad but true as the backing track to his song American badass. And on a few occasions kirk and Lars played American badass live with kid rock and his band. i guess they are friends with each other.

This is still a cool performance because Jason is a beast on vocals.
