  • I am looking for a score for this, preferably online somewhere in maybe PDF format...

  • ME TOO! Can't find it anywhere.

  • She sounds excellent... Ms. Genoux has such a wonderful technique, so impressive..

  • haha

  • Lorraine Hunt is too slow in this aria.. Vivica makes it sound way more joyous, dymanic and lively

  • Vivica's embellishment were hella better than Lorraine Hunt. Like Crindoro said it's not as exciting and lively as Vivica's.

  • I agree- I really don't know how to explain it- but Vivicas version just irks me the wrong way- while Lorraines works just right- its all a matter of taste- it may not be as exciting but they are two different ways of performing this difficult aria

  • I am not discriminating Lorraine's version. Lorraine Hunt's version wasn't bad at all. Her version is almost as close to a castrati voice than Vivica. Vivica had a more darker tone than Lorraine. Now Kasarova on the other hand was way darker than Vivica.

  • Extreme mature and great voice, unfortunately

    bad recording!

  • ... poor audio quality, I know. I was somehow shocked that there's no proper rec of Vivica singing nothing less than one of the greatest, most splendid Handel arias in the for me long searched after ultimate interpretation. So I bought a new audio recorder immediately afterwards and now sit around waiting for her to SING IT AGAIN.

  • At all, but I´m fearing that even Maddona will record a Carestini album before Vivica =(

  • At least some good news: she's giving 4 Baroque concerts in autumn. Unfortunately Dopo Notte is not announced (why?), neither any other new arias. But it's already great and I'm VERY thankful about each occasion that Vivica sings Handel!

  • I wish she sang Teseo (another Carestini role)

  • I'd give a kingdom for you being Vivica's musical advisor!!

My db tells me, however, the castrato in Teseo was called Valeriano, the same who sang Nerone in Agrippina. Anyhow, both are Vivica-dreams :-)

  • I meant Teseo in Arianna, I should have been more specific, sorry

  • Sorry, how could I doubt ;-)

I agree, for example "Salda Quercia" from Arianna would be a dream sung by Vivica.

As to my above-mentioned Nerone in Agrippina, there's almost the same aria as Piacere's "Come nembo..." in Il Trionfo, which Vivica will indeed sing this Nov in Madrid, YESSSSS!

  • Now you made me (day)dream of the duetto from Teseo "cara ti dono in pegno il cor" performed by Vivica and Robertita (sighs!) btw in La Santissima Trinita (Scarlatti) there is a duetto Vivica/Roberta but it is unforgivably short =(

  • Talking of dreams Crindoro, have you read that she will give next year a concert in:

YOUR TOWN!! Handel/Hasse. There's hardly anything else to ask for in this world.

  • Was I in your place, I'd try by ALL means to get a seat directly before her feet. And then: forget all kind of grief and sorrow as soon as she starts to sing. It's the safest cure I know. Validated and approved many times, already with Vivca's antecessor Farinelli and Philipp V of Spain. Sounds miraculous but it always works.

  • For those of you who understand French: there are several clips from the TV program Magazine with Eve Ruggieri where she discusses opera with invited guests. Very interesting! In one of the programs Vivica participates, singing Rossini's "Cruda sorte", and they all discuss death on stage! (Vivica laughs a lot. Her smile is very charming!) Is she bilingual? (her French is very good.)

  • Hi e. have you seen wienerfr has uploaded this TV program. Vivica says she prefers killing instead of dying on stage, haha.

  • Haha she is really from the 18th century and has been sleeping for 200 years! And now - tadaa! - she has awaken to let us hear how this music REALLY should be performed! (Broschi's chum. Right?) (I'm joking. But you see what I mean?)

  • My God. That was among the most amazing I've ever heard! I didn't think anyone could do this aria better than Janet Baker but I was wrong! (and I'd never even HEARD of her. Have to find out who she is!)( she looks very tall?)

  • Thank you and all the others for your comments. It's so good to know that not only we crazy Vivica fans find her Dopo Notte absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD.

  • Phenomenal. Why she didn't record this on her Handel/Hasse disc is beyond me. Whoever programmed that disc should be disemboweled. Orlando? Hello?! Ariodante should have been on there, along with the other high(ish) mezzo repertoire. And Hasse...who CARES?!

  • Oh yes altodivo. WHY is Dopo Notte missing on her Handel/Hasse disc, why? Ariodante/Carestini: Handel's answer to Farinelli! And Dopo Notte is THE perfect example of a perfectly virtuoso aria, but (as it's Handel) never missing emotional depth. I personally draw ~97% of the satisfaction I get from this disc from "Sta nell'Ircana", the ONLY Carestini aria on it. Oh why...

  • What decoration in the de capo section!Fantastic!

  • Vivica Genaux never stops impressing me with her extremely coloratura vocal technique. I remember she performed this in San Diego Opera 2002 production of Ariodante. It was simply marvelous. It was fascinating of her watching her mouth was moving when she was performing her difficult passagios.

  • She is just amazing, I have the recording of Ariodante with Von Otter, which is really good, but this rendition is out of this world. You're really lucky to have the opportunity to see such great concerts live... baroque in Brazil, forget about it... so, thank you very much for sharing

  • Hi Gudrun,

We had the same idea lol. I recorded "Dopo notte" yesterday in Angers (but no images, the camera was in my bag). This was such a joy !

  • Indeed wienerfr, what a joy!!

Thanks for your video answer, super that you recorded it. I ask myself in which crazy world we live: Vivica breaking new ground with Dopo Notte, but only a couple of people in some hidden churches can enjoy it. The concert from Basel was not broadcast to my knowledge, the one in Angers I wouldn't even have found out about (it's not mentioned on her homepage).

PS: I just read Vivica will be Piacere in Madrid in November :-))

  • Superb performance of this joyous aria!! This is one of the finest performances I have heard from this superb mezzo, she sings these firing skyrocketing vocal pyrotechnics with incredible ease and grace! she broke new world ground with her Farinelli album, and I think she should continue that mission with a Carestini album =)

  • Oh yes Crindoro.

A Carestini album by Vivica would bring so much verve into the baroque world. So far there's only Ruggiero's "Sta nell' Ircana" on her Handel/Hasse CD, which has always whetted my appetite for so much more. Now this Dopo Notte increases the desire, her da capo is nothing but a most impressive demonstration of TRUE baroque bel canto.
