For the retards posting that it is a 9x18 mak and not the .380, the Makarovs, specifically the newer Baikal made ones (MP-442) come in BOTH 9x18, AND .380.
I bought mine about 12 years ago for $169.00 and I love it! It is Russian made and is chambered in .380. It has never failed to function and is very accurate despite that pitiful front sight. I wouldn't take $1000.00 for it. It is one of my favorites! Great pistol!
Great video of tear down....I love this pistol. I had a Hungarian PPSH I think it was called, basically a copy of this and the german walther ppk back in mid 80s. It was an very well built gun. Most americans have a 'woody' about non american arms, especially eastern block weapons. the thing is, they are very very well built and built like a brick outhouse at that. I love the music too, cannot understand the lyrics, or the language, but it is really nice. By the way. This ammo hits hard!
@p51chkt, He did just fine unloading the gun, he racked the slide after dropping the mag and disassembled it great. Anyways, most firearms safety classes are full of paranoid freaks. If a gun is NOT LOADED then it is fine to do it how he did it. I mess with friends anyways with my remington that has no firing pin, gets some good laughs. I see the point of the classes, but I make sure in all my guns a round is not chambered before I begin messing with it, which is exactly what he did. So shut up
actually all 9mm are 380 9x19 9x18 9x17 are all 380s because 9mm is exactly 0.38 inches but when you say 380 it regards more to 9x17 and not the other ones
id rather keep my 9x18, its about 100 FPS more than the 380 ACP, still a fantastic gun, I have a bulgarian one, i was a bit worried about dropping it because of the free floating firing pin, it happened and the weapon with a round in the tube and safety off, did not fire. Amazing technology
Cool little pistol.. Saw them for sale a lot when I was getting my first handgun back in 02.. I'm kinda glad I went with the Taurus pt92 just because 9mm para is a lot easier to find plus the ammo prices now are unreal.. I still wouldn't mind owning this as they're pretty cheap to buy.. This is 9x18 right ? .380 is 9x17 and 9mm para is 9x19 ? I think this one is right in the middle isn't it ?
This would be a good gun for you to have a go at re-bluing.If you bought a Birchwood casey cold blue kit and some of the bluing paste they also make, you could do a lovely job of rebluing that pistol, its an ideal candidate!
I do notice that alot of your pistols have seen some considerable use. What is your newist pistol.I know you said to me that pistols are very expensive and hard to come by in India, does this go some way to explaining why alot of your pistols are somewhat worn?
yeh, thats true its very costly to have pistol in INDIA.. even the law is very strict... well some of them are new like the S&W n GLOCK .. maybe the video quality is bad thats why its dull... i oil my gun once a week n after firing too..
Trials for a new pistol started in 1947. Many designs were submitted and tested, such as pistols by Baryshev, Rakov, Voevodin, Simonov, and Makarov. In 1948, the trials resulted in a selection of the Makarov pistol in 9x18 as a next military sidearm for Soviet armed forces. However, it took three more years to refine its design, before it was officially adopted in 1951 as the 9mm Pistolet Makarova or PM in short.
Most Western pistols were required to fire 9mm NATO ammunition just to have commonality in ammunition with the standard issue sub-machine guns; Soviet designers had no such requirements, and by the late forties 9x18 looked as if it was good enough for a military pistol.
The Makarov was developed when the Russian military requested a pistol of the Walther PP type. I'm not sure if the PPK was out yet at the time, but I think it was. The PP/PPK design came before the Makarov and the Makarov is based on it directly.
yeh u r right, but u can still fire the .380 ACP rounds ... the bullet is bit loose , but can still be fired.. 9X 18 is bit out of stock here so i use 9 X 17. ... better to have my gun loaded than to be empty n witing fot the rounds , when u can still fire.... try if it wont burst/blast
.380???? .380 = 9x17, Makarov = 9x18, 9 mm= 9x19; The .380 round and Makarov round are two different rounds. Just wanted to let you know. Take care, be safe, and have fun shooting!!! :-)
This pistol is called the Makarov PM. The 9x18mm round is also called Makarov. However, not all Makarovs are 9x18mm. Many were made in .380, and there are many who have had an aftermarket barrel replacement in .380. I have an East German Makarov with such a barrel replacement. You can't even chamber a 9x18mm round in it.
its not a DUPLICATE. the mak was heavily influenced by PPK design but the mak was made simpler and more technological in regards of production and maintenence. Its not a copy, more like an improved version

Walther PPK is a copy of the Makarov. That´s funny.

Thats not a 9mm, its a 380
irbe77 1 year ago
Great video, and lets clear up chambering confusion here:
9mm is .38 inches, hence the .380ACP
Sizes:
.380ACP: 9x17mm officially
9mm Mak: 9x18 officially, most powerful chambering for unlocked breech
9mm Luger/Parabellum: 9x19 officially
None of these cartridges are directly interchangable, you in most cases need a rechambering/new barrel to safely fire ammo other than intended.
