This is one of the few guitars Gibson made with Les Paul's own designed low-impedance pickups. They need to use a transformer in the lead either internally or externally to match the impedance with the typical amplifier inputs. These gave a wider frequency response than is possible with typical pickup designs. Les used a model similar to this in his regular gigs up until he passed away. Very rare and cool guitar.
