Great video: thanks so much! I've been RRTT but I *do* hate ruck straps. Very excited to do with a chest belt. Loved this carry with my toddler last year! :)
Yes all traditional baby (newborn) carries are on the back because it is more practical to get on with hard work. Personally i could do all I needed to with my newborn strapped to my front and felt a lot better with him there. I loved the back carry from about 4 months. Oh and go the babywearing Dad! Very cool.
This is a great newborn back carry. I have been using this with my 2 week old and its worked perfectly. Moby wraps and similar stretchy wraps should not be used for back carries, just a reminder
Thank you for posting this. I have used this carry with my daughter from the time she was 3 weeks old, and would have started sooner if I'd known how. I've also demonstrated this carry for many moms since and have sent a link to this video on several occasions. Absolutely the BEST back carry. Entirely safe and secure.
@LittoMoonLight - not really. I carried my newborn high on my back and it works wonderfully with a wrap, provided the wrap is made of secure and supportive strong cloth. The supportive fiber should ideally cradle baby's body and head to prevent neck from flopping back.
Its a nice wrap for a toddler, as a mother of three I would not recommend it for a newborn what so ever. they make better holds for that, front holds. There were actually moments where babys neck was not supported, such as when you were moving baby (fake or not) from back to front.
@mksers A nice strong supportive wrap is actually excellent for a newborn and holds them very secure, provided the baby's body and head are cradled by the wrap
Thanks for the fabulous demo. I was able to do this carry with my 1-week old daughter using my Sleepy Wrap, and I couldn't believe how secure and comfortable it felt. Excellent video!
That was my thought as well. There isn't any support for the head and I can't see how it WOULDN'T flop backwards as soon as he stood up properly. Unless gravity settles the head firmly into the V of the cross? It's a great demo of the tie - I just feel it's a lot of manhandling for a newborn as well as being iffy on the head support.
The wrap supports the baby's head by being snug at the neck. It's very supportive and comfortable and wonderful for carrying a newborn all the way up to a heavy toddler. I love this carry and Paulus, YOU ROCK!!
I used this carry and a ruck in the hospital when my daughter was born. I loved how I could get my daughter nice and secure from the start. Awesome carry. Do some research before you start nay saying everything!!

i prefer the front carries for a newborn. this is great for a bigger baby....but not a delicate newborn.

@blueskies145 traditional carries for even a newborn are all back carries.

My arms don't do those things he can do.
I am flexibility challenged I think.

I am similarly challenged. But my arms are just plain too short.

How about baby's head if carrier stands up straight? I still think back carrying newborns isn't very good idea...

What brand of woven wrap are you using?

I don't know which brand he's using, but I've done this with a Moby, and I imagine any decent wrap will do.
