You know, in driving school, you are supposed to slow down and move as far away from the shoulder as possible when you see a police car or bike with the lights on . I see people dont follow that simple law and they would drive too close or too fast past the officer that is doing his / her job. And it is always a danger zone for them. Please. do them a favor and follow the laws. What's that driver doing on the shoulder anyway?
@Sharky58 It was reported that the driver was suffering from a medical complication and passed out momentarily. There was evidence to corroborate the drivers story. No charges were made against that driver.
@chino1127 Thanks for explaining. Things like this do happen and we dont know that. I also heard of people getting killed while they try to change their tire while on the shoulder of the freeway. You know there are people who drive that dont use comon sense. I cant drive do to limited vision. but I read about it.

@CPWindsorsub A CHP motorcycle officer was performing a routine traffic stop at the shoulder of the Northbound side of the fwy during the busy traffic hours in the morning. A car traveling along the shoulder struck the officer, his motorcycle and the vehicle he was stopping. The officer was standing behind the stopped car. The force of the impact not only pushed him through that car, but flipped that car over too. He passed away from complications.
Incorrect, this is the 405 freeway, viewing North. The tall buildings you see toward the west are on Olympic Blvd, and the three beige buildings on the right are at the Sepulveda/Santa Monica Intersection.
The 10 freeway intersects the 405, just pass the National exit you see in frame.
Presumably for safety. In case something were to happen with the helicopter mid lift off, or from the wind generated by the rotors, or maybe just to prevent rubbernecking.
@pi314159t just to waste everyones valuable time...I hate when people slow down so much to a point where it becomes rush hour all of a sudden just because they wanna gaze at some crash...This looked not big or bad at all..yet the whole highway was stopped..California and its laws.
the guy that hit him drove on the shoulder to pass up traffic and collided with officer ortiz and the vehicle he pulled over. hope that guy gets the book thrown at him!
