people who dislike this isnt wise due to the fact that he takes his time and shows you how to do it for free when people will charge u money to show u how to do half the stuff he does.
Hey everyone, just found this great ebook that I really think can help all of you who actually want to succeed at djing and make it profitable for yourself. It's called "Event DJ's Complete Guide To Success." It gives you all the tips, tricks, and techniques that you can't really capture in just youtube videos.
ok, say his track is 120 bpm, and his other track is 120 bpm. what happens if the second record comes in on the off beat of the first record? how do you time that? (other than tuning it after the fact). how does he recognize where the down beat is on both the records so he comes in on beat?
@isk8anddrum No, pitch is how high or low the note is while tempo is the speed of the music (BPM). So controlling the pitch would be altering the frequency of a wave, the difference between a D# or a G, any note you can think of.
@ShiftAero but if he's trying to make deck 2's song get to the same speed as deck 1's song, wouldnt he end up making deck 2's song sound different? also i use VDJ and theres a key lock on that, do real decks have a key lock?
@ShiftAero When a DJ speaks of pitch control, he means tempo. If you play a track at 125 bpm and want to bring in a track with 128 bpm, you'd have to drag the pitch control up to slow down the track. Hence beatmatching with only the pitch control in this vid. Techically you're right in saying the pitch only changes the tone, but then a DJ would call that "key".
dude, i have been djing in clubs since 1985 and i allways find this a bad way, my guess that you looked before making this movie where to put the pitch control, i wanna see you do this fast if i give you some tunes you dont know, best way is to slow down using the old finger and set pitch accordingly, this only takes time and only good for belt driven shit
@666blackstatis666 yea i wached some and i must give the guy a + for making pretty good tutorials for beginners, he explains very thoroughly the basics and how it should be done and there is nothing bad with that cuz beginners come in 2 kinds, the ones who dont need this cuz they know just what to do by sniffing a 1200 and the ones that will never leave a bedroom but that doesnt mean they cant do this hobby so tutorials like this is a good thing i only dont agree on this platter thing. thats all
@juzsomeguy22768 .. Wise yes..... Ass??? At times i can't deny. The reason I asked what I did was because back in the 80's the Beat Sequences and BPM really varied between songs. Unlike todays electronic music that follows the same blueprint (4 on the 4 Floor etc) back then tracks really drifted a lot and were almost unpredictable at times in the mix with sudden breakdowns and what not, But that would be the only reason I could see your point cause YOU DO HAVE TO REALLY ALMOST RUB the platter.
@djpacoherte whatever dude spare me your lame comments about your unpredictable tunes ok, if you had trouble on that maby you should have given more time to get to know ur shit. im off to do some more important shit then watching you talk about shit you propably suck at
@juzsomeguy22768 You Mad??? haha :) If anything I was trying to be nice and give you credit but I guess if you want to get butt hurt over the truth then so be it, Funny you can't give the contrary to anything I have said. CAUSE IM RIGHT. And you know it.
Oh and If you ever find yourself in the LOS ANGELES UNDERGROUND, You can ask somebody of my ability and if I SUCK. You will hate me even more then. HAHA! You can take your foot out of your mouth now haha!!!
@juzsomeguy22768 And as youll agree ... sometimes you have to rub it to the beat just to keep in mixed. They way and how fast that shit changes you don't have time to "RIDE THE PITCH" it will throw you off quick and hard and into a Horrible Train Wreck. YOU HAVE TO TOUCH THE PLATTER IN THIS CASE.
THIS IS A TERRIBLE WAY TO TEACH PEOPLE TO BEAT MIX! i recommend you do as most djs would... use your finger to slow down or speed up the track (either by dragging your finger on the centre label of your vinyl ,by squeezing or turning the spindle, or let your finger drag along the side of the platter), then adjust the pitch control accordingly.
this way you can adjust the pitch instantly with your hands and then know exactly how much to adjust the pitch control to compensate.
@craigbanbury DON'T CONTAMINATE OTHERS WITH YOUR BAD MIXING HABITS.
KEEP THAT SHIT TO YOUR SELF. YOUR METHOD IS WHAT ONE SHOWS NEW BEES. ITS LIKE TELLING THE TODDLER TO DOGGY PADDLE WHEN LEARNING TO SWIM.YOU MUST MIX LIKE SHIT
This is the only way I can beat match now.. thanks again DJ tutor.
Only question is how do you deal with wow and flutter? I have two rather cheapo turntables (however they are direct drive) but the wow and flutter is around .1%. Thats throws off my mixes a lot so i usually have to nudge to get it back on beat.. Any other ways to deal with this besides nudgeing the records?
@yesgeorge333 I can't think of anything more pointless and talentless than DJing. Pick up an instrument and actually create something instead of playing someone else work, and pretending to be an artist.
@oscartina ok i get it, youre 62 years old and have nothing better to do than argue with people. you must have a shitty life. did you change your depends today? is that why youre so up tight? why are you so worried about what other people consider "worthwhile"? im sure if i knew you i could find some things that you consider "worthwhile" that i would just laugh at. i kind of feel sorry for you, sounds like you need a friend or two.
@oscartina I just wantet to tell you that being a DJ is something other than being an artist. No DJ in the world is calling himself an artist just because he plays tracks.
@oscartina I'm not a DJ and I don't want to explain something which is wrong. Another person can answer you the question way better. But for DJing is much more than starting a song, waiting until it ends and starting the next one. Thats what Moderators do on the radio.
Did you ever try to mix? I think @HardstyleJumpstyler2 is right. You have to practise it.
@oscartina you are comparing music to wiping an ass xD
I think one of the main problem is, we didn't define what talent is. what does talent means for you? Who gives you talent? Is talent learnable? Its hard to answer this question in a scientific way, but I want to know what you think.
@oscartina its HOW they MIX it to tell their story through audio. why are there dj's that make $20,000+per set? because they are experts in their craft and there is demand for them. deal with it =)
@Phonik Justin Bieber makes lot's of money that doesn't make him talented, now does it? Just because you can get people to pay you a bunch of money to do something, doesn't automatically make you talented. Deal with that=)
@oscartina lol are you a bitter washed up dj, or a jealous newb with no talent? whats your beef with dj's? why are you even looking and commenting on these videos? sorry to break it to you but it does take talent to dj well. look up qbert, craze, atrak, andy c, richie hawtin, sasha n digweed ect. they are all masters of this craft, which in turn, takes talent to achieve. im dealing with it just fine, its my passion. =)
@Phonik Give me an f'ing break, they / you spin other people music. Why don't you learn to actually play an instrument? The average jazz musician has more talent in the tip of one of his turds than all the DJ's on the planet combined. If it weren't for ecstasy, nobody could stand to listen to this crap.
@oscartina im done with you. im sorry you tried to dj and obviousley sucked so bad that youre now bitter and irrational. nothing you say makes any sense. there is a demand for quality djs and always will be. if its so easy and takes no skill then why arent you out there milking people for $15,000 a set? oh yea because you cant because you have no skill and would get laughed off stage for trying to do what we do..lol. and besides i also write my own music and play piano/keyboard. i love jazz =)
@nekonaru16 all dj,s play other peoples music?? yea right!!!!! wake up bro, i virtually am on a point in dj,ing where i play the shit that comes out of my FL10 so telling around that all guys play other peoples music is not intirely correct
@juzsomeguy22768 I'm talking generically, I produce also and I drop my own tunes in my mixes. I'm saying that MOST (not all) DJ's that play parties, banquets and weddings etc. most likely won't be a producer also, seeing as how they're trying to run a business.
Furthermore, when i said all DJ's play other people's music, i was pointing out a fallacy that oscartina so ignorantly stated. I know for a fact that a lot of club DJ's produce a little on the side. Sorry for the misunderstanding :)
@nekonaru16 yea i have seen his comments mate, im not even gunna react to stupid shit like that, he is not worth it haha.
and i dont even play weddings man, thats not my cup of tea, i only did (do) clubs and edm partys. i dont play that much anymore though, im 43 next month and did my first club at 16 so ive seen a couple of things and now im getting older most of my time goes into producing. most guys i know that are my age or older are taking that direction.
@juzsomeguy22768 Much respect to you man, to keep it up for that long is pretty awesome. I'm 17 now and started out producing, then a friend asked me to cover for him when he got sick before a gig when i was 15 and i was hooked, just something about it drew me in (even though we split the $150 50/50 haha)
Anyway, shoot me a PM if you ever wanna exchange ideas when it comes to production. Just a thought lol.
@oscartina Wrong, the second a track hits a DJ's decks, it is his. He is free to manipulate and change the song as he pleases, using it to convey how he's feeling to the audience, not how the producer feels. Did he make it? No, but he's doing something just as honorable. A DJ is an artist because he uses music to tell HIS story through the music he likes, not the music he makes. And in the end, there is no difference.
I shall only respond to this by saying that I could put you behind my decks and you wouldn't know your ass from your elbow, you'd be lost and you wouldn't know what to do. When you say DJ's are talentless is a direct implication that literally anyone can do it, even you. And I highly doubt you can.
I'll finish with saying that, unless you actually know what your're talking about, you'll never understand why we DJ's do, and enjoy, what we do.
@nekonaru16 There's a song I dj sometimes that's called "Enjoy What You Do" off the Kate Lessing "Dance Club" album. Idk if it's on youtube or not, but you comment immediately made me think of it lol
@nekonaru16 I would add that music programming, feeling the atmosphere and the crowd are very hard things, and this is an art in itself !
Then, what you see on this video is only basic technic... any DJ needs to know how to do it, and in fact, a set with only beatmatched transitions is not a technical performance and not an artistic performance if the music programmation isn't good.
Now, as I hope you can imagine what it is, this is an art...
@nekonaru16 do you mean dj's who do magic with scratching and moving the records or dj's who just play tracks? because anybody can play tracks but not do stuff like a-trak. i might be wise to make a note about this difference here
@nekonaru16 It's true...i used to think they were talentless and then i realized how much they're familiar with harmony and beats and melodies. A DJ needs to be good at every aspect of music or it the music sounds like shit
@Phonik Again well said... this guy obviously got butt raped at some rave and has been a HATER since. Fucking Cave Man, I bet he would call the sticks he beats his rocks with a higher level Instrument than turntables as well. There should be a block button feature here that would boot SHIT TALKERS like @oscartina Out of threads cause all they want to do is argue.
@filipre123 yes dj's can be considered artists, not all but some. not your wedding or mobile dj's really but performnce dj's yes. itsnot just about playing tracks, its HOW you play them. true dj's/artists are sound genious's and know how to sift through the milions of horrible tracks that come out these days, and know how to MIX them togethr to tell a story.
@oscartina are actually taking the piss? Djing takes skill, just like playing an instrument... we don't bitch off at you so don't do it to us. They are both arts in their own repsective right. Thats like saying there's no talent in photography, you might as well paint it. 2 Different things!
@HardstyleJumpstyler2 you can't begin to compare DJing to playing an instrument, give me a break. Comparing it to photography is a "piss" poor analogy.
Guess you dont really get it. DJ's play music of other people, and if they produce themselves, they play their own music too. The thing is, that you share music, you share your stuff with other people. I mean, no rock band or so would play other peoples music! House is so much more connecting, because everyone shares the same passion, and there are so many people who like it. DJs are the connection. without djs, the whole music wouldnt be going around. what music do u listen then?
Woah old video alert!

Hey everyone, just found this great ebook that I really think can help all of you who actually want to succeed at djing and make it profitable for yourself. It's called "Event DJ's Complete Guide To Success." It gives you all the tips, tricks, and techniques that you can't really capture in just youtube videos.

so he is just listening to the track on the monitors for the "preview' and adjusting the pitch accordantly ?
KushPizzaSleep 5 months ago
ok, say his track is 120 bpm, and his other track is 120 bpm. what happens if the second record comes in on the off beat of the first record? how do you time that? (other than tuning it after the fact). how does he recognize where the down beat is on both the records so he comes in on beat?
RockVoltz 5 months ago
when he says controlling the pitch, is it the same as controlling the tempo?
isk8anddrum 6 months ago
@isk8anddrum No, pitch is how high or low the note is while tempo is the speed of the music (BPM). So controlling the pitch would be altering the frequency of a wave, the difference between a D# or a G, any note you can think of.
ShiftAero 6 months ago
@ShiftAero but if he's trying to make deck 2's song get to the same speed as deck 1's song, wouldnt he end up making deck 2's song sound different? also i use VDJ and theres a key lock on that, do real decks have a key lock?
isk8anddrum 6 months ago
@ShiftAero When a DJ speaks of pitch control, he means tempo. If you play a track at 125 bpm and want to bring in a track with 128 bpm, you'd have to drag the pitch control up to slow down the track. Hence beatmatching with only the pitch control in this vid. Techically you're right in saying the pitch only changes the tone, but then a DJ would call that "key".
Bjornar86 6 months ago
@isk8anddrum Well actually I just watched the video and idk if the same thing applies :o It might be, judging from what he says

dude, i have been djing in clubs since 1985 and i allways find this a bad way, my guess that you looked before making this movie where to put the pitch control, i wanna see you do this fast if i give you some tunes you dont know, best way is to slow down using the old finger and set pitch accordingly, this only takes time and only good for belt driven shit
juzsomeguy22768 8 months ago
@juzsomeguy22768 have you watched any of his other videos...?
666blackstatis666 8 months ago
@666blackstatis666 yea i wached some and i must give the guy a + for making pretty good tutorials for beginners, he explains very thoroughly the basics and how it should be done and there is nothing bad with that cuz beginners come in 2 kinds, the ones who dont need this cuz they know just what to do by sniffing a 1200 and the ones that will never leave a bedroom but that doesnt mean they cant do this hobby so tutorials like this is a good thing i only dont agree on this platter thing. thats all
juzsomeguy22768 8 months ago
@juzsomeguy22768 Ever heard of the concept of locking your songs then? This is how you do it. Do you still mix? How long ago was it? 85?
djpacoherte 1 month ago
@djpacoherte ah a wise ass in the house
juzsomeguy22768 1 month ago
@juzsomeguy22768 .. Wise yes..... Ass??? At times i can't deny. The reason I asked what I did was because back in the 80's the Beat Sequences and BPM really varied between songs. Unlike todays electronic music that follows the same blueprint (4 on the 4 Floor etc) back then tracks really drifted a lot and were almost unpredictable at times in the mix with sudden breakdowns and what not, But that would be the only reason I could see your point cause YOU DO HAVE TO REALLY ALMOST RUB the platter.
djpacoherte 1 month ago
@djpacoherte whatever dude spare me your lame comments about your unpredictable tunes ok, if you had trouble on that maby you should have given more time to get to know ur shit. im off to do some more important shit then watching you talk about shit you propably suck at

juzsomeguy22768 1 month ago
@juzsomeguy22768 And as youll agree ... sometimes you have to rub it to the beat just to keep in mixed. They way and how fast that shit changes you don't have time to "RIDE THE PITCH" it will throw you off quick and hard and into a Horrible Train Wreck. YOU HAVE TO TOUCH THE PLATTER IN THIS CASE.

watson2078 8 months ago
THIS IS A TERRIBLE WAY TO TEACH PEOPLE TO BEAT MIX! i recommend you do as most djs would... use your finger to slow down or speed up the track (either by dragging your finger on the centre label of your vinyl ,by squeezing or turning the spindle, or let your finger drag along the side of the platter), then adjust the pitch control accordingly.
this way you can adjust the pitch instantly with your hands and then know exactly how much to adjust the pitch control to compensate.
EASY! :)

@oscartina ok i get it, youre 62 years old and have nothing better to do than argue with people. you must have a shitty life. did you change your depends today? is that why youre so up tight? why are you so worried about what other people consider "worthwhile"? im sure if i knew you i could find some things that you consider "worthwhile" that i would just laugh at. i kind of feel sorry for you, sounds like you need a friend or two.

djpacoherte 1 month ago
@oscartina you don't listen to EDM, do you? And a DJ is something other than an artist...
filipre123 11 months ago
@filipre123 Most EDM is a lame excuse for music, just like hip hop. So why would I waste my time listening to it.
oscartina 11 months ago
@oscartina I just wantet to tell you that being a DJ is something other than being an artist. No DJ in the world is calling himself an artist just because he plays tracks.
filipre123 11 months ago
@filipre123 that's correct a DJ is someone who plays someone else's music, so what's the big deal about DJing.
oscartina 11 months ago
@oscartina I'm not a DJ and I don't want to explain something which is wrong. Another person can answer you the question way better. But for DJing is much more than starting a song, waiting until it ends and starting the next one. Thats what Moderators do on the radio.
Did you ever try to mix? I think @HardstyleJumpstyler2 is right. You have to practise it.
filipre123 11 months ago
@filipre123 a toddler has to practice wiping his ass to master that skill, it doesn't make him talented, it just means he can wipe his ass.
oscartina 11 months ago
@oscartina you are comparing music to wiping an ass xD
I think one of the main problem is, we didn't define what talent is. what does talent means for you? Who gives you talent? Is talent learnable? Its hard to answer this question in a scientific way, but I want to know what you think.
By the way, I love EDM and Jazz.
filipre123 11 months ago
@oscartina give it a shot before you criticise it... because you obviously don't have a clue what your talking about
HardstyleJumpstyler2 11 months ago
@oscartina its HOW they MIX it to tell their story through audio. why are there dj's that make $20,000+per set? because they are experts in their craft and there is demand for them. deal with it =)
Phonik 11 months ago
@Phonik Justin Bieber makes lot's of money that doesn't make him talented, now does it? Just because you can get people to pay you a bunch of money to do something, doesn't automatically make you talented. Deal with that=)
oscartina 11 months ago
@oscartina lol are you a bitter washed up dj, or a jealous newb with no talent? whats your beef with dj's? why are you even looking and commenting on these videos? sorry to break it to you but it does take talent to dj well. look up qbert, craze, atrak, andy c, richie hawtin, sasha n digweed ect. they are all masters of this craft, which in turn, takes talent to achieve. im dealing with it just fine, its my passion. =)
Phonik 11 months ago
@Phonik Give me an f'ing break, they / you spin other people music. Why don't you learn to actually play an instrument? The average jazz musician has more talent in the tip of one of his turds than all the DJ's on the planet combined. If it weren't for ecstasy, nobody could stand to listen to this crap.
oscartina 11 months ago
@oscartina im done with you. im sorry you tried to dj and obviousley sucked so bad that youre now bitter and irrational. nothing you say makes any sense. there is a demand for quality djs and always will be. if its so easy and takes no skill then why arent you out there milking people for $15,000 a set? oh yea because you cant because you have no skill and would get laughed off stage for trying to do what we do..lol. and besides i also write my own music and play piano/keyboard. i love jazz =)

@oscartina Through sheer argumentative skill, I shall now tell you exactly why your arguments are invalid and opinion irrelevant.
1. You had no argument from the beginning, it was all hostility and no valid statement.
2. You didn't even take time to do research to back up your... ugh, it pains me to even call them points.
3. Now, I shall point out the fallacies: First: All DJ's play other people's music. (Continued)
nekonaru16 9 months ago 2
@nekonaru16 all dj,s play other peoples music?? yea right!!!!! wake up bro, i virtually am on a point in dj,ing where i play the shit that comes out of my FL10 so telling around that all guys play other peoples music is not intirely correct
juzsomeguy22768 8 months ago
@juzsomeguy22768 I'm talking generically, I produce also and I drop my own tunes in my mixes. I'm saying that MOST (not all) DJ's that play parties, banquets and weddings etc. most likely won't be a producer also, seeing as how they're trying to run a business.
Furthermore, when i said all DJ's play other people's music, i was pointing out a fallacy that oscartina so ignorantly stated. I know for a fact that a lot of club DJ's produce a little on the side. Sorry for the misunderstanding :)
nekonaru16 8 months ago
@nekonaru16 yea i have seen his comments mate, im not even gunna react to stupid shit like that, he is not worth it haha.
and i dont even play weddings man, thats not my cup of tea, i only did (do) clubs and edm partys. i dont play that much anymore though, im 43 next month and did my first club at 16 so ive seen a couple of things and now im getting older most of my time goes into producing. most guys i know that are my age or older are taking that direction.
juzsomeguy22768 8 months ago

And in the end, there is no difference.
nekonaru16 9 months ago 2
@oscartina Second Fallacy: DJ's are talentless.
I shall only respond to this by saying that I could put you behind my decks and you wouldn't know your ass from your elbow, you'd be lost and you wouldn't know what to do. When you say DJ's are talentless is a direct implication that literally anyone can do it, even you. And I highly doubt you can.
I'll finish with saying that, unless you actually know what your're talking about, you'll never understand why we DJ's do, and enjoy, what we do.
nekonaru16 9 months ago 79

wavepopART208 8 months ago
@nekonaru16 I would add that music programming, feeling the atmosphere and the crowd are very hard things, and this is an art in itself !
Then, what you see on this video is only basic technic... any DJ needs to know how to do it, and in fact, a set with only beatmatched transitions is not a technical performance and not an artistic performance if the music programmation isn't good.
Now, as I hope you can imagine what it is, this is an art...
EmmanoTV 5 months ago
@nekonaru16 do you mean dj's who do magic with scratching and moving the records or dj's who just play tracks? because anybody can play tracks but not do stuff like a-trak. i might be wise to make a note about this difference here

HardstyleJumpstyler2 11 months ago
@HardstyleJumpstyler2 you can't begin to compare DJing to playing an instrument, give me a break. Comparing it to photography is a "piss" poor analogy.
oscartina 11 months ago

gilmourish 10 months ago
@oscartina
