You can laugh now, you sniveling obsequious little toad, BUT I SHALL LAUGH LAST.
Don't think I've forgotten about you, merely laying the groundwork for your fake eared friend to gasp in shock and horror as she slowly realizes that THERE IS a rat amongst us and that there ARE consequences for her big fat mouth.
Everyone in this film is just unbelievable. Only wish they hadn't portrayed WSG's marriage as rather unhappy; to best of my knowledge he & his Kitten were quite happy?
@Sapphonouveau THAT'S what that means! All these years I thought it really WAS a euphemism for something naughty! XD Thank you for interpreting - although now Barker's comment about it melting is somehow not as funny...
I really like the expression on Ron Cook (Richard D'Oyle Carte)'s face through this scene- he clearly thinks all this 'talking code down the telephone' malarky is ridiculous. Thanks for posting.
This film displays an authenticity in speech, mannerisms, Victorian reserve & politeness so true to the period as one reads about it--so rare in movies. One of my absolute favorites.
Favourite. Movie. Ever. Please post more clips -- I have the movie, but on VHS, so I don't have the ability to pause. One thing I love about it is the accuracy in costume and set, and that isn't shown off as well when everything's moving.
Interesting accuracy -- The costume used for Nanki-Poo is identical to the costume used in the REAL first production. I've heard it's the same one, but I don't think the fabric would preserve that well -- in any case, amazing effort!
I love this movie, too. They capture everything from that era, including the sense that they were part of the modern world with those "modern" inventions!
"HAHAHAHA...HAHA....HOHO!" Barker's laugh at 1:09 ! :D

LOL - Hokey-pokey sounds incredibly suggestive, considering it's just victorian slang for ice-cream!

@DustWarden Aw! Now I feel really bad for spoiling it! Forget I said anything. It means *exactly* what you thought it meant ;)

"One might as well open the window and shout it down the street!"

@jozg44 In his defence, it is rather ridiculous, don't you think?

Yes, I particularly liked Sullivan's reaction to the reservoir pen. "Whatever will they think of next?"
