Beautiful voice melody, well piece in general, but this is interesting to really see Bach's idea in a different light. (asides from the strange computer rendition)
Smalin, your unique, because unlike most famous people on youtube, you actually talk to your viewers and subscribers, and answer questions like the one below. 5* for EVERY VIDEO!! :) XD
@smalin I would say you're pretty famous, everyone who listens to music on youtube has seen at least one of your thumbnails, they're so enticing to watch too! :3
i usually dont sign in but i thought this was worth it. just stop man . not all styles need to be corrupted with this electronic nonsense. big fan of the industrial scene , love the raves but christ man theres a limit. please leave real artists out of your tomfoolery.
@Dhesyca I've heard of it but not used it. I think I've heard some output from it, and I think I remember thinking that it was better than the software I used here.
@smalin It is very good software, and even the earlier versions sound much closer to real voices than the program you use. I would recommend looking into it when (IF) you have time. If you're looking for a male voice, look up Kaito. The main downside to these voices are that they tend to be very high. Anyway, I love your work; I'm checking out all sorts of different composers' styles on your channel. THANK YOU!
Another proof (graphic one for this occasion) how skilful Bach's voice leading is. As Robert Schumann wrote: "every single note in Bach's music is written for the eternity"
Yes, you are absolutely right. It is an American speech synthesizer trying to speak German! I had to figure out what English spelling was closest to the German, for example "fawm toy-full," or "hot zee glike daw fawn geh mockt."
I NEED THIS SOFTWARE!!! i checked out VocalWriter and unfortunately they say it's only for PowerPC-based Macs. :?( mine's an Intel, so i guess until they release an update there's not much i can do.
great job on this video! i love the concept. it's simultaneously hypnotic and educational. :?P
oh yeah! i got it to work by installing "Rosetta" (PowerPC emulator for Intel chipset). i'm new to Mac, so i didn't know about this. thanks! :D
i did e-mail them a few nights ago but haven't gotten a response yet. it seems like this software is nothing short of revolutionary and i really hope this company flourishes as a result.
To me, as german is my mother tongue, it's great fun to hear, that the computer generated voice is sounding exactly like a human, who speaks german with an extremely strong english accent :-)
Neither can I, and it still runs through my head even when I'm not listening to it. I need to find a good recording. The problem is that there are so many cantatas that it's hard to know where to start with buying recordings. If records had been invented in Bach's day we'd have an authoritative set of recordings, and we wouldn't have this embarras du choix.
Dude... I can't BELIEVE you chose this movement! This is the piece I work out to every day on the eliptical, and I like this almost as much as the Andreas Scholl. Really cool sound on the melismata. I really MUST use this software. myspace dot com / homayounibrandon
Try iTunes. I recommend the Andreas Scholl recording, but the Yoshikazu Mera is also good. It's "Wer sunde tut der ist vom Teufel" from the Cantate No. 54 (BWV 54) by J. S. Bach.
This is one of the weirdest things i have ever heard. I cannot figure out if I hate it or quite like it! There is something that makes me want to keep listening and then are things that irritate the life out of me!
I love his pronounciation... especially "aufgebracht"... your videos are awesome. Frog round is probably my favorite. Do more with the synth vocals and add some Beethoven!
Have you heard of the "uncanny valley?" It's a hypothesis that describes the emotional response to robots imitating human traits. Check it out on wikipedia if you like. Anyway, I like the emotional flatness of the voice. It has a foreign, otherwordly quality to it. It might be interesting to exploit that quality rather than trying to fix it.
Anyway, I dig your work a lot. I'd be interested in taking a piece and messing with it in Adobe AfterEffects sometime.
I agree; this is expressionless; if you play the string parts through a score program and play the vocal part with a singing synthesizer, this is the result. The singing synth only knows German, so I had to fake the German with English. I'd like to use a real recording of the piece, but I don't have permission to. So, for now, this is as good as I can do. With piano music (try Claire de lune), I can do a more expressive job.
OK,in 1970 there was walter carlos: switched on Bach
the welltempered synthesizer. intresting. The original sound is joyful modulated, but listen to the german words carefully. There is something to edit. But of course very nice. nice music for las vegas in a pinball wizard. And there is no drive grouve, mean swing. Thomas Bremser
Where did you find a program that could synth lyrics? I know they have many synth talkers out there, and I know that they (obviously) have variable pitches, but what synth did you find that allows you to control both?
It's called Vocal Writer. If you go to the "production notes" section of my website (musanim dot com) and look under Frog Round (which is also posted here, BTW), you'll find a link to the company that makes it.

Hi, I like your animation. In the German lyrics in the description box here, the typo "thut" should be changed to "tut," the er/sie form of "tan."
waves00 4 years ago
>the German lyrics in the description box here, the typo "thut" should be changed to "tut,"
That spelling is from the score I'm using; I thought that it was the way it was spelled during Bach's lifetime; is that not true?
smalin 4 years ago
The lyrics are OK, just older. "Thut" is indeed an older spelling for "tut" (infinitive = "tun" = "to do"). It'd be pronounced the same, either way.
