You guys say that you're competitors pipe is smaller than yours. I compared my phone on Sprint with my friend's phone on Verizon and his phone had higher download speeds on both 3g and 4g, not to mention that he HAS 4g in santa monica and i don't.
@onenite2nite Oh that sucks yah, but hey if you check coverage they have symbols for "future towers" and check your area to see if one of those tower icons are on the map, if so you might get 4g within 2 months.
What no one else mentioned yet is there is an entirely new wireless 700MHz spectrum being introduced through Verizon (LTE), and will be the new and improved market for data transfer. Using the 700MHz, cell phones will require less wattage for connectivity (more battery life), reachability (less drop spots) and is told to extend greater lengths with zero failure through walls or minimal issues in basements. I don't work at vzw, I just like their coverage
@awwtbone MediaFLO currently uses 700MHz Block D for their network, which I'm sure Qualcomm will sell off to at&t. MetroPCS is currently using their AWS band for their LTE network. VZW will use their 700MHz Block C for their LTE (3GPP Release 8) network, and 700MHz data transfer will penetrate better through walls and basements. Yes, LTE will have less power consumption over WiMAX due to LTE's SC-FDMA transmitter. Looking forward to WiMAXr2 and LTE-A (true 4G).
@pH4b14n Niice, I have some reading up to do, Thank you for the response. I was not aware the cell companies have already finalized the paperwork and began dolling out various blocks to different providers. This will greatly enhance the mobile market and I can officially sever my ties with my cable co. Cheers
@awwtbone VZW is releasing their "4G" LTE network Dec.5,2010. VZW's press release on their new LTE network will release tomorrow. New plans, which I'm sure VZW will charge for throttled speeds and data caps on their LTE network. FCC had Auction 73, which auctioned 5 Blocks of the UHF (700MHz) spectrum to many telecommunications companies such as VZW, at&t, and Google in 2008. Cheers.
According to critics who've actually taken time to evaluate Sprint's two 4g phones, the fastest connection for the Evo and Epic is 4g, then wifi, then 3g
@betterthandaman you are an miserable puke. Also painfully ignorant that you didn't see the wifi symbol on instead of 4g, you tool. 1:41 in the video, no 4g but wifi!
AHHHHH HELL YEAH!!!! I work out in the Inland empire, live nearby LA, and visit Orange county every weekend. Thank goodness for 4g!!!!!! :D I <3 Sprint.
@curveconcepts The beauty of Sprint 4G is that you can use it with WiFi enabled devices like iPAD, iTouch, Blackberrys, laptops, ereaders, etc. Sprint's two 4G phone are also hotspots for up to 8 Wi-Fi enabled devices. So basically you are your own hotspot.
@TheSvinge What i stated has nothing to do with what you replied with. The fact that during the video, they were using wifi for watching video and not 4g proves only the lies Sprint chooses to feed people. I was not talking about tethering.
@TheSvinge Its not the network that does that, its the phones. T-Mobile can do the same and is also faster and they dont lie to their customers. Plus buddy was using Wi-fi @1:31....so stupid....
The wireless telecommunications industry as a whole has generally adopted the term 4G as a short hand way to describe those advanced wireless technologies that, among other things, are based on OFDM technology and are all-IP based architecture. Sprint’s 4G technology meets these parameters. LTE does too. T-Mobile's HSPA+ technology does not.
Walt Mossberg from the Wall Street Journal and All Things Digital summed it up recently when asked about 4G networks. He wrote: “Sprint has a 4G network in scores of cities across the country, and T-Mobile has a souped-up 3G network that it says can achieve 4G speeds. Verizon has pledged to introduce 4G service in several dozen cities by year-end. AT&T is planning to start rolling out 4G next year.” As Mossberg’s comments point out-- There is only one leader in 4G: Sprint
uhm, do you understand physics? bad example with the pipe... Things move through a smaller "pipe" faster because the pressure causes them to travel faster... idiots
If you didn't hear, check out the video again, Capacity is the main topic hear, now tell me, when you have a bigger piper, can id carry more water through it or does a smaller piper carry more water. The more capacity space you have, the more data your will be able to move all at once, while smaller space will only be able to move smaller data faster.
@sprintnow Yes please stop claiming WiMax is 4G! Yes, its easier to say, but it hust isnt true! The ITU has stated current "4G" systems are only evolved 3G systems. An Alpha test, if you will, of 4G. You guys realize you can get sued for this eventually, right?
True 4G? Wow, just like theninthplan said, check with the ITU. No body has true 4G, at this point its all about speed and the fastest network, if you want to call it 3G or 4G is with T-Mobile. And it has the largest footprint. So Sprint, stop kidding yourself. And pH4b14n, until Sprint's current network is reaching speeds of 100 mbs, its not 4G.
@devdawg03 you obviously don't know what WiMAX revision 2.0 (IEEE 802.16m) is. WiMAX revision 2 and LTE-Advanced (3GPP Release 10) are recognized as true 4G by ITU. Sprint's current WiMAX network is IEEE 802.16e (early adoption for 4G)which can be upgraded to IEEE 802.16m (WiMAX revision 2). In Korea, Samsung was showing off 330 Mbps WiMAX r.2 at CEATEC 2010.
@pH4b14n well you're obviously can't read because who the hell was even talking about WiMAX revision 2.0? Nobody was. We're talking about here and now, Sprint's current network which does not meet the standard set by ITU. We're not talking about what the network is capable after upgrades and future potential. That's the dumbest argument I've ever heard. Until it meets the requirements, its not 4G, period.
@devdawg03 Lmao! You're telling me "well you're obviously can't read ". It's very obvious you can't type proper grammar. To answer your question, since you can't pay attention, I was commenting on what was true 4G, just as you stated "until Sprint's current network is reaching speeds of 100 mbs, its not 4G". I commented, you replied, I explained, you replied, I pwned, PERIOD.
Hey, it's Kathleen from Sprint and Los Angeles is already seeing 4G all around town - check it out today for a fast mobile experience on your EVO or Epic.

Correction. Evolved "3G" is recognized as 4G. Sheesh ITU, make up your mind.

Update. ITU has now recognized WiMAX and LTE as 4G. So Sprint/Clear's and Verizon Wireless is true 4G. Not Evolved HSPA (HSPA+).
