Not trying to hate, but anyone could do the stop and start that they do at 4:00-4:09. But, she did a very good job of that lift of throwing her legs around Derek. I know THAT wasn't easy.
I loved this performance! The move where she extends her legs, wow she & Derek look AMAZING! You can tell from that move how much she has grown! Derek is AMAZING, so flexible!! Derek did an incredible job perfectly choreographing this dance for Ricki!-He's the best! I love the beginning when he's dancing towards her-stunning!!
great choreography. this dance, Ricki did pretty well except for her posture. her head & neck seemed to be so stiff, she looks awkward . oh well, the 2 judges gave 10's so am happy for them.I don't really understand Len. He among the 3 used to be the most fairly consistent,in terms of giving scores but I don't see that this season.
Interesting that Derek said he was not stressing about this season. He is so competitive that I would assume he would push really hard until the end. It's been a fun season. Great dancing and wonderful personalities.
Derek's choreography is brilliant, unfortunately that's only 50% of how the performance turns out. I do appreciate Ricki's effort or any other celebrity who is or has competed. Ricki IMO was so stiff on her neck & shoulders that it looked so awkward & painful to watch. I am truly amazed @ the way the judges seem to be harder on some celebrities as opposed to others.I like Ricki, love Derek but the best dancer should win. this semi-finals is a lil' underwhelming...again JMHO!
Yikes! I recently read that Derek Hough has not been happy this season and is considering not returning to DWTS next year. With his injured neck and shoulder, he is concerned about his future! :-O!
@WoodIsle99 he injured his neck too aside from the shoulder? I don't blame him, health before anything else.In an interview, he was saying unlike prior seasons he's not stressing to win this one. Well he shouldn't! he's still the only 1 w/ 3 mirror ball trophies.He feels Ricki & he have already accomplished their goals...memorable dances & Ricki looking good...so regardless, they already won...that's how all competitors feel when they make it to the finals...they are all winners.congrats2 all
I like Ricki a lot, actually! She can hold a form well, does good footwork every now and then, and was better than Nancy or Hope in my opinion. I was surprised when they kicked off Chynna (?) and Tony/ David and Kym when those two were way better than Hope or Nancy (Now Im rambling). Anyway, In the end I think Ricki or J.R. will win, unless Rob gets even better because if he does then they will be screwed.
Ricki is an inspiration to me -- in regards to her personal and professional life. Especially to start each day a-new! The hard, hard work it must take to dance like this is something - I would last maybe a day. And to make derogatory comments are you kidding me??! I think Derek's choreagraphy is amazing. HE makes her look good. Her dancing is good but she didn't do much FOOTWORK here. He lifted her most of the time - he did most of the work! Look at J.R.'s Argentine Tango - he has GREAT footwork and HE lifted (with a hurt ankle!) and HE LEADS which is more difficult that being the follower. BTW, I know a thing or 2 about ballroom and latin dancing. NEW JUDGES PLEASE! Preferable all judges should have backgrounds in professional ballroom dancing.

Please...calm down. It's just a dance show! It's simply that, being one who has taken dancing lessons since I have been 8 years old, I see that Ricki is not a natural dancer when you compare her to JR or even Rob. When I mentioned Karina, I was making her an example of how to move your feet, with grace and technique, and, I don't happen to see that with Ricki. Obviously, I don't "hate" her, I don't even knopw her. It's just that she is so AWKWARD! Face it!

Seriously, watch Ricki's feet, and compare the quickness and light agility of someone like Karina, There's no comparison. In addition, Ricki is stiff and has very little stage presense. JR 371. In my personal opional Ricki the more constient dancer every week and only had one bad week she had but in that week she still pulled in a 24. JR at least three bad weeks to date that I can remember but America fell for NOVELTY ACT that is JR.

@TheWhiteKing01 WHERE'S HER FOOTWORK?? There's hardly any done by her in this dance. Take a good look, Derek does most of it, mostly lifts her, while she just poses. Compared with J.R. she doesn't come close. When she did her instant jive, she looked heavy footed and like could she could barely keep up with Derek. Look at JR's instant jive, full of energy with precise footwork and in sync with Karina. His Argentine Tango was amazing. In spite of a hurt ankle, great footwork and leading.
@BonbondeParis Sandor and Parissa choreographed many of the Argentine Tangos on DWTS. It's possible they choreographed this one. They choreographed Gilles & Cheryl's Argentine Tango.
@Codebear4 Wow I didn't know that Sandor and Parissa choreographed Cheryl and Gilles AT. I feel cheated now. I knew the choreographers on the show got help every now and again, but I didn't know to what extent. That's very disappointing to hear. My love for a lot of these routines is because I believe that the pros on the show are choreographing them for their partners as a team. I know it sounds silly, but I feel cheated.
I'm really impressed Ricki and Rob were so neck and neck. I really like the intensity and choreography of the dance. The technique and shaping and lines she does are very good. In my experience its no easy thing to do. I liked this dance and rob did a great job too. I think he wins most improved, but ricki is my favorite!
i have absolutely NO idea why the judges score Ricki as well as they do!!She is heavy footed, takes little awkward steps, couldn't make a jump if her life depended on it, and, plays thie "oh, my dance was so terrible, I can't believe the judges scored me so well" act. Come on, even Hope did better than Ricki. JR with a badly injured ankle completely NAILED the argentine tango with all of their difficult lifts. He and Karina were amazing! !Perhaps it's due to Ricki being Derek's partner.

I just watched all ATs of the night, and i think this was way overscored. Cheryl and Rob was better. Rob's tango song wasn't as dramatic as this, but Cheryl and Rob were just more connected and smooth. Even Ricki samba was overrated. Rob won all 3 rounds imho.I have nothing against Ricki and Derek, but they are quite overrated .
No favorite for the season but I disagree that an entertainer such as Ricki Lake with a dancing / acting background should be considered as being on a level plane with the others in the competition.
loved the AT that Derek choreographed for Ricki...it was all that she needed ... not more and definitely not less. Ricki had a great frame, the Tango was crisp, was full of restrained passion...it was the perfect routine for Ricki. this is why Derek keeps winning - great choreo but always perfect suited for his partner. Ricki looked amazing doing this dance, so i think that Derek has done his job perfectly.Ricki - you are my lioness, queen of the pack! Derek - you define the pure PERFECTION!
I hope ppl are giving Derek benefit of the doubt because he doesn't have a super slim partner nor is she young. He still can manage to come out with a great choreography. Knows how to bring out the best in his partners and how to work with ppl. That's talent.
I agree with some of you. Something was off. She seemed very stiff. The movement where she kicks back into the air was extremely rigid and much better done by Joanna Krupa and especially Kelly Osbourne. Were the judges watching the same tango that we were?
i feel like the scores are just based on derek alone when he has been on the show....i don't feel emotion in derek's dances, its like his female celebrity partner just follows him around, the only one who matched him and had emotion was when he was with lil kim and they left too early due to bias opinions...i know they will be back next week but ricki needs to stop looking like a robot. period.
The 29 was deserved. It's a tango, yes, but with a German twist (listen to the soundtrack) ... and there's a strong German influence in Argentina. The seeming rigidity and sternness of the dance plays off that connection. Her footwork was precise. There was passion, but it was very contained. The praise was merited.
the stories are really dramatic when they put it together sometimes hahaha I think Ricki did good Derek just had big moments and Ricki had little simple ones, like holdinh her shapes and lines and holds and all that goes into dances ppl need to look at that imo good I hope Ricki and Derek and JR and Karina are in the top 2 I want JR to win but If RD win I wont be mad

good...but once again over scored imo, cuz it was a lot of derek and not as much of ricki. don't get me wrong, i love this couple from the start and still do but I just think they're overscored. they still no doubt deserve a spot in the finale though
@starrbeatlesqueen well, let's be ready for that because Derek is the judges' fave. All they see is Derek, even if he's paired with a robot, they'd still give them a 30!!! Derek is their golden boy. This will be derek's 4th win and though i like his choreography, i look past it and judge the star NOT the pro. Ricki has no musicality. There's no improvement!!!

@dmcguirre My theory: Derek left the show last season and the choreography definitely suffered (Mark didn't pull through) and now they're trying to get him back on the show with a long term contract by giving him the mirror ball. Majority of the viewers are female: so they have Mark and Maks (over-dramatic and inconsistent). Tristan is too new to depend on...so its up to Derek to maintain the quality.
Bottom line: DWTS can't afford to lose any more good choreographers...
@tpong777 The choreography suffered? Why does everyone think Derek is the only good choreographer on DWTS? Mel B's V. Waltz & paso dobles? Joey's Jive? Kelly's A. Tango? Kristi's & Shawn's freestyles? Mya's samba? Kyle's A. Tango? All done by other partners/choreographers! If they want to maintain (reclaim?) DWTS's quality, they should bring back Louis, Dmitry, & Jonathan & find some judges who know how to judge consistently & w/o favoritism & reduce the weight of the fan vote to 25%.
@el7jake I also mentioned consistency as a major factor. All the male pros have choreographed great numbers but in terms of consistency and partnership I think Derek comes out on top. I feel sorry for the older guys though (tony, louis, etc), they don't get a chance to prove their talent since they usually get stuck with crap partners (a la kate gosselin).
I was only concentrating on the male pros in my previous comment...being that the majority of viewers are female.
@tpong777 Louis' choreoography is great.He is 1 of the few male pros that have not really been paired wit a celebrity that had @ least some minimal dance background or blessed w/ natural grace. Am sure he can win if & when he gets an amazing partner on the dance floor. Tony, altho he had his share of the not so good partners, I must say he has had @ least 2... Stacy & Melissa.. IMO Tony fails to recognize his partner's potential & he usually plays safe w/ his choreography.

@BonbondeParis Sandor and Parissa choreographed many of the Argentine Tangos on DWTS. It's possible they choreographed this one. They choreographed Gilles & Cheryl's Argentine Tango.

@Codebear4 Wow I didn't know that Sandor and Parissa choreographed Cheryl and Gilles AT. I feel cheated now. I knew the choreographers on the show got help every now and again, but I didn't know to what extent. That's very disappointing to hear. My love for a lot of these routines is because I believe that the pros on the show are choreographing them for their partners as a team. I know it sounds silly, but I feel cheated.

I'm really impressed Ricki and Rob were so neck and neck. I really like the intensity and choreography of the dance. The technique and shaping and lines she does are very good. In my experience its no easy thing to do. I liked this dance and rob did a great job too. I think he wins most improved, but ricki is my favorite!

i have absolutely NO idea why the judges score Ricki as well as they do!!She is heavy footed, takes little awkward steps, couldn't make a jump if her life depended on it, and, plays thie "oh, my dance was so terrible, I can't believe the judges scored me so well" act. Come on, even Hope did better than Ricki. JR with a badly injured ankle completely NAILED the argentine tango with all of their difficult lifts. He and Karina were amazing! !Perhaps it's due to Ricki being Derek's partner.

I just watched all ATs of the night, and i think this was way overscored. Cheryl and Rob was better. Rob's tango song wasn't as dramatic as this, but Cheryl and Rob were just more connected and smooth. Even Ricki samba was overrated. Rob won all 3 rounds imho.I have nothing against Ricki and Derek, but they are quite overrated .

loved the AT that Derek choreographed for Ricki...it was all that she needed ... not more and definitely not less. Ricki had a great frame, the Tango was crisp, was full of restrained passion...it was the perfect routine for Ricki. this is why Derek keeps winning - great choreo but always perfect suited for his partner. Ricki looked amazing doing this dance, so i think that Derek has done his job perfectly.Ricki - you are my lioness, queen of the pack! Derek - you define the pure PERFECTION!

I hope ppl are giving Derek benefit of the doubt because he doesn't have a super slim partner nor is she young. He still can manage to come out with a great choreography. Knows how to bring out the best in his partners and how to work with ppl. That's talent.

I agree with some of you. Something was off. She seemed very stiff. The movement where she kicks back into the air was extremely rigid and much better done by Joanna Krupa and especially Kelly Osbourne. Were the judges watching the same tango that we were?

i feel like the scores are just based on derek alone when he has been on the show....i don't feel emotion in derek's dances, its like his female celebrity partner just follows him around, the only one who matched him and had emotion was when he was with lil kim and they left too early due to bias opinions...i know they will be back next week but ricki needs to stop looking like a robot. period.

The 29 was deserved. It's a tango, yes, but with a German twist (listen to the soundtrack) ... and there's a strong German influence in Argentina. The seeming rigidity and sternness of the dance plays off that connection. Her footwork was precise. There was passion, but it was very contained. The praise was merited.

After seeing it several times I think it's her facial expression: HER FACE DOESN'T EXPRESS ANYTHING! NO LOVE, NO HATE, ANY PASSION, finally NO Argentine Tango...

good...but once again over scored imo, cuz it was a lot of derek and not as much of ricki. don't get me wrong, i love this couple from the start and still do but I just think they're overscored. they still no doubt deserve a spot in the finale though

@starrbeatlesqueen well, let's be ready for that because Derek is the judges' fave. All they see is Derek, even if he's paired with a robot, they'd still give them a 30!!! Derek is their golden boy. This will be derek's 4th win and though i like his choreography, i look past it and judge the star NOT the pro. Ricki has no musicality. There's no improvement!!!

@dmcguirre My theory: Derek left the show last season and the choreography definitely suffered (Mark didn't pull through) and now they're trying to get him back on the show with a long term contract by giving him the mirror ball. Majority of the viewers are female: so they have Mark and Maks (over-dramatic and inconsistent). Tristan is too new to depend on...so its up to Derek to maintain the quality.
Bottom line: DWTS can't afford to lose any more good choreographers...

@tpong777 The choreography suffered? Why does everyone think Derek is the only good choreographer on DWTS? Mel B's V. Waltz & paso dobles? Joey's Jive? Kelly's A. Tango? Kristi's & Shawn's freestyles? Mya's samba? Kyle's A. Tango? All done by other partners/choreographers! If they want to maintain (reclaim?) DWTS's quality, they should bring back Louis, Dmitry, & Jonathan & find some judges who know how to judge consistently & w/o favoritism & reduce the weight of the fan vote to 25%.

@el7jake I also mentioned consistency as a major factor. All the male pros have choreographed great numbers but in terms of consistency and partnership I think Derek comes out on top. I feel sorry for the older guys though (tony, louis, etc), they don't get a chance to prove their talent since they usually get stuck with crap partners (a la kate gosselin).
I was only concentrating on the male pros in my previous comment...being that the majority of viewers are female.

@tpong777 Louis' choreoography is great.He is 1 of the few male pros that have not really been paired wit a celebrity that had @ least some minimal dance background or blessed w/ natural grace. Am sure he can win if & when he gets an amazing partner on the dance floor. Tony, altho he had his share of the not so good partners, I must say he has had @ least 2... Stacy & Melissa.. IMO Tony fails to recognize his partner's potential & he usually plays safe w/ his choreography.
