Twenty years ago today (Christmas), the Soviet Union folded up shop. For those of you guys born later, let me tell you, it was like we had won a huge war. An old and deadly enemy finally collapsed under the weight of his own crimes. The fear of nuclear annihilation, that we lived with daily, was lifted. In recent times Islamic terrorism has exercised our fears, but the threat it poses was NOTHING compared to our struggle against Communist totalitarianism. Let's be grateful...

@butihum3 Ya ... the dems do sooooo well with destroying the American dream. Why do people want it ALL given to them, Because they can't do for themselves. Ask any illegal alien how it is that my tax money goes to educating his little bastard, when I can't even afford to put my kids through school. What about the illegals that get health care for free.... The list goes on... People do learn, we are learning right now what change is.
@butihum3 Seriously, you need to hone your reading skills. I said the economy in the '90s STARTED out crappy but improved greatly after GB left office. Also I don't recall ever saying GB had anything to do with the end of the Cold War I merely said it ended. Understand?. Your paranoia is clouding your reasoning and BTW I'm left of center.
@cryptokinesis I'm also left of center. Although he was a TRULY EVIL OLD MAN, Ronald Reagan won the Cold War. He went into office with intent of bankrupting the Soviets in an arms race, and that's what he did.
@butihum3 I guess it's in your perspective. I recall Bush V1.0 being in office for 2 years during the '90s (BTW GWB sadly makes him look really good in comparison). I also recall that the 90s started with the economy 'in the crapper' but by the mid-90s the economy was doing very well so well that we ended the decade with a record low unemployment rate of slightly less than 2%. Once again to say nothing of the end of the Cold War and the end of Apartheid.
The keyboard player is *Too High* to care what you critical, shit-4-brains-zero-personality-megalomaniac-dumbfucks- legend-in-your-own-mind, A-holes think, OK???? Your whole mind-set and head needs to be flushed down the stinking Toilet, DIG???
The '90s were a hopeful time, weren't they? Cold war over. Apartheid ended. Democracy throughout Latin America. Too bad we fell back on our old habits.
@cryptokinesis So true - we got so much done in the 80's! Unfortuinately, that was just a drop in the bucket...I'm hopeful we'll get back on track one of these decades (pretty much, if we don't, we're screwed)!
@cryptokinesis You seriously are messed up. What habits are you talking about, comparing those times, and our times, is just plain STUPID. I hope you were joking, but ahhhh man..;-)
@cryptokinesis do you ever feel like you never understood the political metric, ever, in your life? I'm gently trying to tell you, you don't know shit.

Enough with the "This is 90s/80s" debacle. Look people, music shifted when Nirvana hit the scene in LATE 1991. There are numerous songs from the 80s that are mistakenly thought of as 90s songs such as Edie Brickell's "What I am" and Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car." GET OVER YOURSELVES!
Most people consider the end of 80's-style music to be roughly 1992 (at least, I do) which is when "grunge" took over. Not much that has come along since then has captured the attention that 80's Dance, Rock and Pop did.
Yes, it's a "90s" song... but its flavor coincides more with late-80s than with later music in the 90s. Perhaps one might call it "post-80s 80s music". ;-) I graduated in 1991, after watching the Berlin Wall fall, and several other changes. This song has always been iconic for that time in my life.
You know both the 80's and 90's were a good period for music when today's youth is constantly looking the songs up. The other day I looked up "New song" by Howard Jones and all of these kids were talking about how the show "skins" brought them there. I guess I cant blame them though. There was more creativity in one hour of MTV back then then there is in a whole year of today's music.
Why is it that opponents of 90s music try to bunch it in with 80s music? it wasn't the 80s you cretins, it was the 90s. the 80s was wham and boy george. if you don't understand the difference, buy a book.
@sabrettes - Really, it's like saying Pythagoras lived in the time of Clement of Alexandria! Get your facts fucking straight folks, for Christ's sake!
@ryuujin23 I miss those days, honestly. Even though I was blotto half the time, things seemed so much simpler then, almost with an air of innocence. That sounds stupid, but like I said earlier, good times, right? Cheers!
I am the "C" rapper & I create one note, bad poetry. The music industry is now hard at work, destroying the Human element from all music by brainwashing the youth to march to the beat of robots with auto tune.
For the sake of Humanity, only endorse Humans that still use melody.
The power of Wikipedia: "The song was inspired by events in Eastern Europe of the late 1980s and early 1990s, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall." You people don't even know how to Google stuff, do you? Can we please stop the petty religion wars below? To each his/her own. Now shut up and listen.
genuinely meaningful music, the doubt album is one of my favourite albums of all time. It brings back such fond memories of doing D of E hikes across the south east of england with a ghetto blaster on our backs playing this, a beer in one hand and a big bifta in the other. Amazing times.
This song defines a generation. I heard it for the first time when I just thought he just came on after Yo! MTV raps. Don't forget everyone from generation Wolfenstein: Right here right now is the one place I want to be.
Didnt you use this same comment about the 80's bar in Heaven and your ex-gf rotting in hell in another utube video page??? i know u did but i like it!!! i have to admit i stole your "I Hope theres an 80's bar in Heaven" phrase & put it on my facebook and its a hit!! so thanks...sorry, im a plagiarist, but its a nice thing to hope for and alot of people feel the same way...So i'll see you in the great 80's Bar in Heaven!!! i'll order you a cold one buddy!
@coindude69 YES,I USE IT EVERYWHERE!! AND GLAD TO KNOW IT HAD SOME EFFECT ON SOMEONE!!IT IS ACTUALLY THE TRUTH..I DID UPGRADE IT TO INSTEAD OF GOING TO HELL,I MADE IT "ROTTING IN HELL..And u are not being a plagiarist..it"s a comment that should live in infamy!! Spread the word loud and clear to everyone...LOL...And definitely save me a cold one.I will be there as soon as i poof out my hair, put on my Jordan's,and decide whether i should wear a hawaiian shirt or a nice fluorescent green one!!
@KillyBesel i know, buty it was early enough to still feel 80' music....and pssst, the correct spelling is NINETIES...I LEARNED HOW TO SPELL IN THE 80'S ALSO!!
@myjoeyd Interesing, I came to this vid, cause Jesus put this song in my head when I was out preaching about him to people at the gas station. I had to look it up. Turns out you are talking about heaven and hell and also the band's name is Jesus Jones. So cool how God confirms himself. This is not an accident. Jesus loves you and died for your sins. If you confess Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Then read his word. He is REAL!
@TheImmortalTree no, it has nothing to do with religion. This song is about living in the 1980s when it was written, where everyone talked about the "60's revolution that had already passed us all by. It is about right here right now intesad of living in the past for a revolution that was long over. And how everyone talked about how great the music was in the 60s and 70s. He wanted everyone to know that current music was where it was all about. That's what Jesus Jones said in an interview.
This is what it was like coming out of the 80s, talk about confusing. So many tired of that 80s way of living & looking for something more, thank goodness grunge came along & other things shook things up, it was boring for a long time.

I remember being a junior poli-sci major in college when this song came out, this song seemed the perfect theme to the end of the cold war.

This song was big in the clubs in January 1991 when I moved from Knoxville TN out to Phoenix AZ. Jesus Jones & EMF. Good times...

@TheBukrules - I think you and I hung out in the same clubs.
ryuujin23 6 months ago

Amazing times.

coindude69 8 months ago

Renee4435 7 months ago
@myjoeyd Interesing, I came to this vid, cause Jesus put this song in my head when I was out preaching about him to people at the gas station. I had to look it up. Turns out you are talking about heaven and hell and also the band's name is Jesus Jones. So cool how God confirms himself. This is not an accident. Jesus loves you and died for your sins. If you confess Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Then read his word. He is REAL!
TheImmortalTree 7 months ago
@TheImmortalTree no, it has nothing to do with religion. This song is about living in the 1980s when it was written, where everyone talked about the "60's revolution that had already passed us all by. It is about right here right now intesad of living in the past for a revolution that was long over. And how everyone talked about how great the music was in the 60s and 70s. He wanted everyone to know that current music was where it was all about. That's what Jesus Jones said in an interview.
