  • Fleur De Lis Fail. they need to play more like this now instead of this crappy popular stuff. They Have Boerma they can do pretty much anything.

  • OMFG! We played this song in 09' in my High School. We got a superior rating! xD

  • 3:51 trumpets are getting squished lol.

  • boss

  • fantastic..nice sound!

  • Check out the University of Utah Marching Band perform Malaguena! :D

    /watch?v=EpYrN_MA0rY

  • Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuito bom, quem dera Taciba fosse assim..

  • whoever put this up...thanks.

  • They DID that!!!! #Respect!

  • i like

  • Awesome!

  • people really need to stop trying to compare high scholl and college bands to Drum Corps, the IS NO comparison!!!!!

  • FAMU's version is not better. FAMU plays it version while in concert formation, not while doing a drill. FAMU is a bunch of hype and rests on past laurels. It's more of a dance ensemble that happens to play music. A damn minstrel act and an embarrassment to all black people. Yes, I am black. I've seen both FAMU and Michigan in person. Michigan is a better band. Period.

  • @MrOu83 dude FAMU has an amazing bad. so what they dont d adrill to malaguena. who cares. just be glad a HBCU band decided to think outside of the box and do something different. and FAMU is not an embarrassment . if they were they would not have the success they have had over the years. and also this is the school FAMU originated from

  • Nice. But FAM's version is better

  • the best of marching band

  • No shit Madison Scouts does it better, they are a drum corp. This is a college marching band.

  • @DCIPhan11 It was just a response to pages and pages of comments about who plays it better.

  • Was their first set supposed to be the Madison Scouts' logo?

  • @mashdoctor It was a Fleur De Lis which is the symbol of the Madison Scouts.

  • @mashdoctor looks like it to me lol !!!!

  • All these comments about who does it best crack me up.

Madison Scouts 63',65',78',80',81',88' (DCI CHAMPS),96', as well as the Alumni Corps in 06' did it the best.

  • Madison Scouts '88 = MUCH BETTER

No offense to Michigan State and all

  • Mr.Hanson!

  • the band insturctor looks like hitler sorta.lol

  • Go Michigan! Here's some videos for you. Hope you enjoy them.

  • is it just me or does the audio not match the video?

  • @xxxDeath9572xxx Well, since light travels faster than sound, that's usually what you see watching a marching band...unless you are really really close to them.

  • That is true.

  • no ps ora si ke se la jalaron con esa cancion

  • Ok, I can't get the link but type in FAMU malaguena and click the first one you see.

  • Florida A&M plays a slightly different of version of this. Their version is more suited for a marching band on a field.

This sounds like the original concert band version. Look at the link for FAMU's version.

  • I remember playing this in high school for marching band! wow

  • I''ve read about 300 comments and no one seems to realize these arrangements don't materialize out of thin air. This Malaguena is based almost note for note on Stan Kenton's 4.21 arrangement from 1961. The USC marching band put their very similar rendition of their 1984 Olympic Games album..

  • I trained my goldfish to do the same

  • our schools marching band did this show too, part1,2,3 it was beast(:

  • Hmm.. I remember this.. I was at the game!

  • wow just one of those is larger than my marching band 0.0

  • I remember this game like it was yesterday. Go Blue!

  • This is one of the hardest songs to play and I had someone play it on a grand piano.

Its an amazingly wonderfully whimsical song

  • At 3:52, not everyone has their feet in time. Great show tho

  • people who don't play an instrument don't understand how hard and emotionally distressing band can be, but in the end it's worth it.

  • this is absolutely fantastic.. they have a nice full and rich sound and they do not have to blow until their horn rattle either...

  • My 8th grade band, (including me because im in the drumline), is playing this song..

  • Every one has there own way of doing this song. If you don't like it then don't watch it. I think they did a good job. What the trumpets did was smart, and cute. You may think it's corny but you notices them. Witch makes for a fun likeable show, weather you like this band or not!

  • people chill they did an amazing and they have been around longer than DCI this is the first marching bnad America has ever seen. this school started it all. even showstyle bands have originated from this group

  • It doesn't sound good that fast, i say slow it down cause my marching band that im in plays it a bit slower and it adds a little more to it i think, this sounds rushed.

  • How does this get more views than the Madison Scouts???

This is High School compared to the Madison Scouts. Super corny trumpets, too, which as a trumpet, I absolutely hate.

  • @samrshelley How many DIFFERENT shows does any corps band play a year? These fine musicians learn and MEMORIZE a new halftime show WEEKLY.

  • @ikarooz Seriously?

    1. I am in the Kansas State Marching Band, which basically plays the same style as this band.

    2. They DO NOT learn shows weekly, because no football team plays at home every week. Its bi-weekly at best.

    3. So what if they play 1 show all summer? No one goes to see college marching bands just to see them. You might get 2-3 thousand people to show up for a college marching band, but you can get up wards of 30,000 people to show up for a DCI event.

  • @samrshelley TOUCHE' I still think comparing corps to college or HS bands is unfair, to all concerned. Corps has one mission the show(and marketing)...college/HS, passing classes and supporting their respective teams. Either way I like all of it GO ' CATS :- )

  • @ikarooz You are right, it is slightly unfair. But then again, DCI doesn't get near the exposure college bands do, even though they are far and away more talented groups. But hey, thats the way it is. I like all of it too!

    Go Cats!

  • @samrshelley UNL (University of Nebraska in Lincoln) learns new shows weekly, they tour with the football team :P

  • @trumpetmasta69 There is no way the band travels down to Texas and Oklahoma. Not even TAMU does that, and TAMU goes about everywhere.

  • @samrshelley Ohio State played 4 home games in a row. 4 different shows. Also Ohio State plays performances during away games. The away game is the first time they play the show, then they repeat that show for the home game. So even in the instances of away games, they still play a new show 1 week after performing their last show (unless there's a bye week)

  • @coqui1337 Ok... I don't see your point. I'm in the Kansas State Marching Band, and we opened the season with four straight performances (aka games) too, and each was was different, none were the same. So far we've played at every game (5).

  • @samrshelley have you ever thought that this "corny" sound is the recording equipment? As well, have you ever seen the MMB's pregame? Watch and learn..

  • Too corny for me...especially the trumpets moving around.

  • This is a rather interesting arrangement of Malaguena. I like it. Reminds me a lot of DCI.

  • damn hard to think this was 12 years ago

  • The jazz part didn't sound jazzy with their overblowing :/ And that's my favorite part of playing it!

  • so can they only make one shape and with a few variations or what? borrrring visually, but decent sound considering you can actually hear it REALLY well in that stadium.

  • ohio state couldve done it better.

  • @xblast196 to bad Madison is better then both of them

  • @TheZachErickson Too bad Madison sounds like shit. The Madison Scouts might to this better, but due to your ridiculous high step the badger band sounds like shit.

  • LSU does it better... ;)

  • @decaff159 sorry to burst your bubble but famu does this better

  • @decaff159 hell yeah!! :D

  • dat gave chill bumps! and a weird feelin up my spine! dats pretty damn good!

  • awesomee!

  • very good!!! i bet this would be so much better in person!

  • my HS jazz band played this... but HOLY SHIZ!

  • damn that is all i can say damn

  • Wow. Thats pretty good for a marching band. Almost as good as the scouts. Drill wasn't very great. However I liked it.

  • why no trad u guys come on...... not cool

  • @TheEHSDrumline Probably because it makes no sense on a level drum. Trad grip is only for show unless you truly want a different sound between your right and left hands, or you play a slanted drum.

  • @joseph2ne yeah but do u know how easy it would be to slant the drum....extremely easy.. all u gotta do is tilt the hooks a little and adjust the plate screws and your good to go.. its not even that hard to do... i know this is a collage band and all but alot of drum corps dont even slant there drum ... and u are required to play in trad ... 2 completly different levels yes.. But its not that hard to adjust. it looks better 2

  • @TheEHSDrumline You have a good point. I do know how easy it is to slant the drum, and I also know that traditional grip is not usually the preferred grip by percussion professors at many universities because it doesn't transfer as easily to keyboards, timpani, etc. This is probably another reason why lots of college band prefer matched grip. Traditional looks much cooler, there is no question, it is just not preferred over matched grip nowadays.

  • @joseph2ne yeah... i wish it was preferred it looks so beautiful XD .. its 2 bad its not a much used grip in drummers these days.

  • @joseph2ne Traditional grip makes sense for snare lines. It allows you to do rudiment type stuff (rolls etc) must easier. Now for a set matched works best. I have been playing 30 years & was in DCI for 3 (way back in the 70's) Used trad for marching stuff & matched for set from the start. Works best for me anyway. But I also haven't played marching stuff since around 1980 lol.

  • credoooo!!!

    muitu loku

  • I think every body has seen the madison scouts logo at the beginning??

  • i hate it when snare players play match grip. it looks bad and traditional looks badass

  • @dangerbycory agreed. I was a shade let down by those snares playing a matched grip

  • I noticed its against WSU i hate the cougars...im a UW person!!!

  • Not a horrible arrangement. I like the way we played it at TU in 1999 better. I think the trumpets are a little weak. No real "screamers" in the band. There is a portion just before the drum break that should have been played up an octave.

  • the only year they were good

  • mhs fba 2009

  • I'm brazilian and I love your drum corps in U.S.A. Congratulations for the apresentation. Who can, find "lyra mauá" playing Malagueña. They're our reference in colegial band. You know "Colégio Progresso" anda "FAMA" too? Find brazilian musics! Bye!

  • The u of m band is really good, always has been probably always will be, but there drumline is always way to loud, on a lot of solos you can't hear them cause the drumline, also, the trumpet are acting like they are playing really high, I realize it is probably in the show or the director told them to bend their knees but come on they are only going up to like high c's and e's and acting like they are playing really high like drum corps

  • They're paying homage to SPAIN! Read below!

  • Actually...bobo...you need to do your research on the history of Malequenia. That's been done by many popular bands as well; so saying it's Homage to Madison Scouts is just a presumption; fleur de lis is also another presumption you're making; obviously you don't know that the king of Spain still has the fluer on his coat of arms. Gee wizz, Maleguenia and flue? Yes they go together... hahahaha U didn't go to U mich did you, or you'd probably make that connection.

  • Cadets 2003?

  • Madison Scouts 1985 or 1986 I think.

  • the fleur de lis is more than likely paying homage to Madison, as they made this song as popluar as it is today, most ppl who are familar with DCI automatically picture them when they hear this song. and I love traditional, even though it only still exists because it looks cool

  • very good old school, band, still great song

  • they playing cool!!

    not like here in phillippines..

    only few trumpetersnsax and snares..

    dont have budget..

    nice..

  • viva Málaga!!

  • I play this in my band and its way diffrent

  • @chrisAKAcoffe same here different people arranged it probably

  • my sista plays this... its very different

  • Whats with the fleur de lis? there not the madison scouts...

  • they're*

    pay attention in english class

  • The Fleur de Lis is the best symbol of all time, so I'm not complaining...

  • This always reminds me of Sasha Cohen's program to Malaguena

  • eww the snares aren't playing traditional...

  • Traditional sucks most of the time, unless its DCI/WGI

  • Great Great

  • brian griese the qb?

  • and i shed a smiling tear of grace and fulfillment ....yes

  • Oh wow, the high school I go to performed this song last year. But this is better and faster. But we did win State.

  • fuck wazzu fuck michigan go huskies. awesome job on malaguena tho

  • i'd say fuck wazzu and michigan too if i was a fan of the lowly huskies...

    GO BLUE!!! BEAT ND!!!

  • lol the huskies arent so lowly now

  • Nice homage to the Madison Scouts with the Fleur de Lis marching set.

  • Good call! I've never heard Maleguena played any better than when the Scouts do it

  • nothing beats the 89 scouts... it was 89 right?? pretty sure i'm right

all i know is scouts did malaguena better than anyone.

  • our school did malaguena too! But, this sounds a bit better than ours.

  • if u want to play it like crap then sure its easy to do that..... if u want it to sound good and right no it isnt.

  • my high school badn played this the year before i got there with 8th graders... so im thinking this is a relativley easy song?

  • the '88 madison scouts show is the best for this song...so amazing. michigan played it very well also

  • Do college bands just not care about marching in step?

  • College is marching is just for fun. They odn't compete so they don't care as much.

  • As someone who has marched college band for 4 years, I have to disagree with that. Just cause we don't compete, doesn't mean we don't take pride in our performance and visual execution of the show. If they're not in step, that is a trait of MICHIGAN, not all college bands.

  • Then I defiantly respect you. I'm from the Memphis area and all of the college bands here don't take marching band seriously. They take concert band seriously though.

  • The audio is about half a second, maybe a whole second, out of sync with the video.

  • Thats probably because the microphones are farther away from the band than the cameras. Light travels faster than sound and you get the same effect when you are actually there.

  • Right. My comment was a reply to the one that said they don't march in time with the music.

  • look at those dinky plumes

  • this piece is easy

  • Michigan does do a pretty good job with this song. Its a tough piece, not easily played. Props to them. It doesn't send the shivers down my spine like say the 1996 Madison Scouts show. If you haven't seen it, I'd highly recommend it. Anyways, great job Michigan, keep it up.

  • man this is good and i myself cant wait to play this with my band at a show or somethin now that iv heard how cool it sounds.^_^ but i have to practice it first.

  • i totally can't wait to march and play this song this next year.

i've got half of it already memorized and i think it's almost the same arrangement as the music we have.

    it's great!

    (:

  • wait till you get to college, you will be lucky to get a third part.

what chair are you in your English class? by the looks of your spelling not at the top....sense??

  • actually they plyed it 10 times better than that

  • your point?

  • I LOVE that fleur de lis opening set.

  • i cant wait to march this next year!

  • with whom

  • My Band? haha, Not Mich, sadly. Just a High school band in Mich. We got 1st in state last year.

  • PCMB?

  • whats wiith the match grip, im a 7 th grade trumpet player and even i know that you should play traditinal with snares

  • You're in 7th grade, so that speaks for itself. It's all a matter of taste. It's all a matter of choice, because neither style is "better" or "worse", "easier" or "harder" than the other, just different.

  • It looks like they were using matched earlier in the song, but when it shows the snareline at about 2:35, it looks like they've switched to traditional grip.

Not sure what's up with the matched grip. MMB usually plays trad.

  • looks like they were pretty tight (steps apart) they must have gone to match to keep the left arm from sticking on too much so they could be closer for that formation.

  • Nice job with execution! Great tribute to the scouts with the drill design in the intro, but as said before it is ashame that there aren't more artistic minds in the stands to get that! This was one of my favorite shows we did while in Univ. of South Carolina's drumline!

  • The fleur de lis in the beginning is a nice nod to the Scouts, but I'd bet only 10 of the 90,000 people in the stadium got the reference haha.

Still, MMB always puts on a good show. I hope we play Malaguena during halftime with the Blue Band before I graduate.

  • they tried to copy the '88 scouts from dci and the over did the leaning back it just makes them look retarded

  • this is amazingggggg my band played this in a latin show with caravan by duke elington and besame mucho and we were undefeated and were 2007 lmba class AA champions.

  • Ugh. This hurts my eyes. The Michigan marching band is really uncoordinated. DRESS AND COVER!

  • fukers gringos shet fakiu malditos rassitas

  • Nice nod to Madison with the fleur de lis.

  • lol were only in 8th grade and were gonna play this for our concert it looks hard

  • Wow, I never realized how bad traditional style looked from the side. Now I see why my band director makes us do it

  • Man, this was back when marching bands were the premier halftime event at bowl games... none of that stage artist junk. I played at the Poinsettia bowl between Navy and CSU in 2005, and we had to do some weird kind of cut show that wasn't even televised. Sigh.

  • Damn, crowd wasn't expecting that shit

  • Very large, very impressive, but I'm not a fan of the actual SOUND. It's just a lot of people tearing brass instruments to shreds, making a very harsh and sheaky sound. Does nothing for me, I'm afraid.

  • i think that it sounds this way because the sound quality isnt that great. if you actually listen to the song it sounds great. and yes this is a very impressive band.

  • what a big band lol. nva seen bands this big b4

  • Look at Allen's marching band. 600+ members and colorguard!

  • actually no this is a small band...im sorry but it is so small compared to a junior high band...a big band would be nearing 500 students....now thats a big band...music sounds great.

  • Weaksauce! Sorry but these northern and midwest colleges just dont compare to the southern corps style colleges. Whoever wrote their battery feature needs an education in latin jazz music.

  • such a big band...

  • I agree with the guy that said it's malaguena...PLAY IT!!! Where are the screaming trumpets? I also agree with the guy that said 81 scouts...though 96 was good too...and 2003 Cadets was just clean as ballz...

  • How do you not mention 88 scouts..? That was the only year anyone's ever won with Malaguena.

  • that was the best maleguena ever performed.

  • are you stupid?! no one beats the scouts on malaguena.

    NO ONE

  • i meant the scouts you idiot hahahaha this one is shit!

  • Their Colorguard was wearing Marching Uniforms too.

    Wierd.

  • tempo is to fast for my liking

  • i love watching/listening to college marching bands.

  • Weak... its malaguena, PLAY IT. and yes, north texas had an amazing arrangement of it but it also had much better musicians too.
