Wrestling Roundtable thought this show wasn't good. Well I guess that is their opinion but I think they set their own expectations WAY to high but when it doesn't reach their expectatations they get dissapointed and trash the show. Plus Eric told me that he didn't care about what goes on so that offically makes him a hypocrite lol! Nothing every pleases them but yet a lot of people really liked SummerSlam 08!
Taker vs. Edge was awesome I kind of expected blood becuase this was a "heated rivalry" (Though blood doesn't make a match it does make things seem more brutal) nonetheless it was just an awesome match. And the aftermatch made sense because Edge gave Undertaker hell since last year's Survivor Series and Undertaker sent him to hell. I was cheesy but still cool. And yeah between RiE2, HJ and SS it was a great month for wrestling PPVs

Best ppv this year from wwe except for wrestlemania (for me i think of the royal rumble and no way out as build up to). I think most people thought the ecw match wouldnt be the dud, but the rest of the ppv wasnt a bad at all.
Could you do a ppv review of wrestlemania 22? over the last 4 years this has been one of my favs and would like to hear your opinion on it.
How do you come up with your overall PPV score? Excluding the dud Hardy/Henry match, you had 7 matches with a total of 35 points available... Adding up the points you awarded would give you 23 out of 35 -- 6.5 overall?

are you kidding me? this is the worse summerslam ever! As a ppv it was good, but as a summerslam it sucked balls, this ppv is a disgrace to summerslam. Dont waste your money on this site, if you want a good summerslam go for summerslam 2001.
Besides the undertaker/edge match, this ppv totally sucked. I mean khali and jbl in the main event? are you kidding me?
I give it a 4/10
no hype, very bad buildup, and very weak storylines, very weak card too
If you didn't like this PPV, you'll almost never be satisfied with anything that goes on in wrestling. I feel sorry for all of the people who used to be true fans and are now super-smarks who think they have to hate on everything.
Yeah! Guys like Bill and Doug would say the PPV sucked just cause The Great Khali was in one of the main-events which is really sad! There was more to this PPV than just The Great Khali plus the match didn't totally suck. But they wouldn't have the balls to admit cause they work for TNA
In regards to Trips trying to show how much of a "bigger draw" that he is to Cena for facing Khali, I am hoping he holds the belt for a whole year like Cena as well.
Now before people thumbs down this comment, hear me out. Cena held it for a whole year with everyone and their grandmother whining and complaining about it. If Trips does the exact same thing, would they whine about him as well, or make excuses while sitting on their hands like a retard in the asylum?

i think this ppv was overall a huge disspointment and hell in a cell was a weapons match with to many false finishes and the worst ending i have seen since WCW Nitro June 5th 2000 Vince Russo vs Ric Flair. Some one tell me what was the point of it being in a hell in a cell when that was never an issue in the match?
Holy crap, not to be rude, but quit your bitching. Maybe if you went back and watched the more recent Hell in a Cell matches, you'd realize how this one looks like hot cakes.
i think summerslam had very good plot turns i mean who wouldent wanna watch smackdown to see what happens to edge great ending in my opionion and Hell in a cell was just "wow"
The whole Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy match was to just set them up for a rematch at Unforgiven. Whether or not Matt wins it there, I'm not sure -- they might go all the way to Survivor Series. But I have no doubt Mark Henry is going to drop the ECW Title to Matt Hardy. I just hope they don't drag it out as long as they did with MVP vs. Matt Hardy.
Yeah, but they dragged it out too long. Plus, the contests got really repetitive. Matt Hardy's my favorite, so I still loved it. But it went too long, and then they did not even properly hype their final pay-per-view match (Backlash) over the title.
What's with all this hype over MVP, dramakingmcdade? (I remembered to add his name for the time between the initial posting and it gets formatted into a reply) Look, he's a great wrestler, but he is not close to being put over anyone like Triple H or Undertaker. I don't even think he should be in a major pay-per-view with one of them. Maybe give him a one time world title shot, like with Kennedy, just to see how well he can do, but make him lose. That's the smart thing to do.
I dont understand this thing with Rey Mysterio? They had that crap with is he alive or is he dead with Kane which was ashit ending to a good angle. Then hes on the promo forsummerslam and not even a mention of him. its fukd up.And also fuck Rey Mysterio hes bollockz.
MVP may be great at promos and his matches can be great if they give him enough time, but he still isn't over enough with the fans. Most people still see him as a midcard superstar -- though I must admit, a midcard superstar very capable of breaking into upper-midcard. This win over Jeff was something I was very happy about, because it was a win MVP desperately needed.
But still, MVP shouldn't be put over Undertaker, Edge, Triple H, Big Show, or Khali, yet, they are Smackdown's biggest guys.
hhh needs to drop the belt to someone, hes been horrible as champ imo,and mvp does need a title run.but im guessing undertaker and hhh is the next feud.
Great review. However, once again, I don't see how HHH has buried Umaga, seeing as how Umaga was already made to look weaker long before facing HHH. Also, seeing as how Umaga hasn't been on Smackdown for a long while now, I don't really believe that report. No one should always believe what's on the internet.
I believe it. Umaga's last match we saw on Smackdown -- I believe -- was the Blockbuster of the Summer Battleroyal. He might have squashed someone the week after, actually. Anyways, Umaga is out with an injury he got at a house show. It's the same deal as Kennedy's: he has to test it first before he determines whether or not he needs surgery. But his injury is supposed to be less severe.
He is injured, that is fine, however, that is completely different than 'being pushed out of the way' from a feud, which is what it said. That's why I don't believe it. People make up stuff about HHH a lot, because he is an easy target.
Edge and Taker was alright but one thing that in my mind was missing was blood, Cell matches are supposed to be the most brutal match in the WWE but to have no blood is jarring.
Okay i like TNA its okay but in my mind TNA cannot compare to WWE for the simple reason that TNA wrestlers suck at doing Promos (except the ones that used to be in WWE)
CM Punk vs. JBL was great and was very fun to watch. John Cena and Batista was a *** match. It could've been better and longer. IMO, it didn't match up much hype like some matches did like Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock. Hell in a Cell was excellent! To quote what you said about the Fatal 4-way from your Backlash review: "Goddamn that was great!"
It sucks that Foley didnt continue through with this angle and then quit; his involvment with the HIAC might have pushed the match over the edge, especially when Edge did that New Jack spot through the table.
I think alot of people saw that coming with the WWECW World Championship, with brother Jeff making the save. The SD WHC was surprisingly good. Don't need to have another HBK interference cause it already happened, that segment was just right. And yes this was a good Summerslam indeed. Very satsified, Summerslam is allways my fav.
there was a nice camera spot where i think Undertaker ran across the announcers tables and put edge through the last one and in the aftermath, the cameraguy panned across the two tables and showed the fallen edge and undertaker at the last one. As a broadcasting major and someone who does a lot with cameras and editting and directing, i thought that was brilliant. I liked everything in this match except the hollow ring chokeslam at the end. It sounded like edge landed on pillows
tripple h didnt wanna carry the great khali so he could have a good match. the only reason and THE only reason is so tripple h could show he could pedigree khali. tripple is basically have a pissing competition with cena, " cena could f-u khali" so tripple h needs to say he pedigreed khali. its just the way it goes
The last two matches were excellent, but the other matches were pretty boring. If Triple H is as good as he thinks he is, he should have been able to do more than just pose for 10 minutes.
overall i enjoyied wathing this ppv. it was better than what i expected. i see a lot of u guys are going emo in this being a bad ppv. oh well we all cant have the same opinions. i think its awesome ppv. i love the HBK/Jericho segment and the HIAC. the Cena/Batista match was pretty good.
What you said about the Cena Hate thing is what I've been saying for years. The reason everyone was hating on Cena was because they were sick of seeing him as the champion and always in the same spot. Remember when he first appeared, everyone liked him. Or almost everybody anyway. It wasn't until WM 22 when he'd been champion way too long that fans started to hate him. They said he sucked, and the rest is history.
I don't hate Cena, because he's gotten better at wrestling over time, but there was no reason that he should have broken Randy Savage's record of championship duration. Why Vince did that is beyond me. That's a slap in the face to Savage's great career.
Eh it's hard to judge. Different time periods and different styles. But Cena is at the very least a top draw in the era so I don't think him passing a record set 20 years ago is that bad.
1st time the crowd turned on Cena was Summerslam 05 (I was there!)
Personally, I never cared for Cena. I hate the character. He's a hard worker, & I understand why they use him as the top guy, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
But I am happy that he has been losing lately. Makes the show more bearable for me.
I'm guessing you're a Randy Savage fan then. Not that there is anything wrong with that though. He was a great wrestler, and a future Hall of Famer. But you have to realize that those "record breakers" are going to happen. Vince does it purely for a story angle. I'm sure Cena's will one day be broken by someone else.
He rates John Cena vs. Batista just as good as the Ultimate X match at Victory Road and Kaz vs. Petey Williams at Slammiversary...
Correct me if I'm wrong but let's see.. John Cena vs. Batista had no chain wrestling, just head locks, punches to the face typical big lame ass big guy match.
Yes I did actually watch it, it was slow paced, just an ordincary typical watered down WWE match. I just don't understand how you rated it better than the Victory Road Ultimate X match..
Chain wrestling doesn't make a match good. The people have to care about what you are doing. You can be the most technically sound guy in the world, but if you can't get a decent reaction from the crowd, you aren't worth shit.
Now Cena & Batista, while no known for being the most technical guys in the world, you put those 2 together and the crowd responded because it was a new & fresh match up between the two biggest young faces in the company.
Chain wrestling is one of the things Shawn Michaels is best at, and his matches are constantly highlights of pay-per-views; and one of the things said about his matches tend to be, "he had some amazing chain wrestling." It really does impress the fans to see it most of the time, too. Even younger, more markish ones can't surpress a wow.
But then there are a bunch of young guys who think they can either go out there and do as many highspots as possible or stay on the mat and wrestle the whole match, and the people will eat it up, and that isn't always the case.
But it worked for these two in this match, in the sense that it just kind of said, "See, we're not completely inept wrestlers!"
Michaels knows how to make it work, but it's not just the super legends like him that do. Jeff and Shelton did an impressive chain wrestling spot on last week's Smackdown (EVEN IF JEFF BOTCHED LIKE SIX MAJOR MOVES!), and Matt Hardy has also done some pretty impressive things, most recently with Edge, because they have awesome chemistry.
True but chain wrestling isnt what got them over, obviously it helps to start a match, but its not vital at all. Wow i feel like such a smark debating chain wrestling on youtube with somebody named TheImmortal92, oh yeah this NYG4LIFE has a lot of sence I dont get why all your comments get thumbs down.
TS you made out the ECW title match was pointless, the point of the angle because it was more of an angle than a match was now the Hardys back together. Also I thought the HHH~Khali matach was definatley his best ever match it was acutually entertaining.
Nice view, for the part that you said about HHH..not understanding why he is still champion, you have to remember HHH 11th time run..was just a breez, thats why his 12th time run as of yet..is still to hang on. Congrats to CM Punk, but i feel that the WWE needs a heel champion for RAW...as for JBL slowing down, may be true, but i really dont think Punk could have defeated JB..on his best day.
Well its all opinion based. Personally I really liked them both and they were definately the two best matches this month and probably the two best matches I've seen this year, so its really hard for me to pick a favorite.
damn trips was in the worst match of the night. Dave wasn't lazy and had a better match. and then Adam and Mark go postal and try for a five star match. wow. summerslam regains a chunk of it's past glory. very fun review, a nice fun watch.
i think jericho really hit rebecca the look on his face as he was walking up the ramp leads me to believe he didnt pull his punch like he was supposed to...but great segment overall and great ppv at the same time
This is the first time I've stayed up for a PPV since Wrestlemania (Because they start at 1pm over here in England) and it was well worth it. I just had to see the Hell In a Cell.
I thought this PPV was pretty good. If the HBK segment, Cena/Batista and the Hell In a Cell weren't on here then it would have been bad. I thought the Hell in a Cell was WWE's match of the year so far along with HBK/Flair.
I did not like this PPV at all. batista vs cena was good and the main event was good but not as good as you think it was for me.the rest was not PPV quality for me. and the shawn michaels segment TBH im bored with it because they have talked so much in this feud its basically like the same thing every time...but i guess they did change it up a bit with the whole Booker t/Sharmel/Rober Roode thing they did.
The HIAC was really good. The only thing i hated was the fact that there was no blood =(. Cena/Batista was really good, I look forward to seeing a rematch in the future =D
Are you kidding me? The HIAC tore 'Taker's arm to shit. When he was speared through the announce table, a paper was stuck to his arm because he was bleeding everywhere.
There is no way in holy hell any of the World title matches could have followed Cena vs. Batista or Taker vs. Edge. Just no way.
I mean the biggest match of the three was Punk vs. JBL, and uh yeah, they already gave that one away for free on Raw when Punk first won the title.
Batista vs. Cena is a main event caliber match. I hate Cena with a passion, but hes a star whether I like it or not. And Taker vs. Edge: Hell in a Cell. Need I say more?
I agree with you Truth that the final 2 matches were bigger matches but I still think the Championship matches should have been Main Evented and specificly the C.M. PUNK vs. JBL match.
I was actually happy that it was CM Punk vs. JBL as opposed to Y2J. Punk got a clean and legitimate win against a top tier (kinda) performer. Wouldn't be surprised if Y2J vs. Punk is next with the interference, but Punk's title reign couldn't survive a DQ against Batista, count out against Kane, then interference win against Y2J with Michaels help.
i thought the hiac was a really good match but i think people are overrating it. dont get me wrong i thought it was good.... but i didn't think it was as good as people are saying.

Good review Truthslayer. SummerSlam was a good entertaining PPV. The only reason people are trying to hate it is becuz the buildup wasn't that good. But WWE delivered without great build up. Who do u think CM Punks next opponent is going to be since Jericho is stuck in the fued with HBK and WWE will probably try to continue the Cena vs. Batista fued? I refuse to believe that JBL will get another shot.
i'm convinced and have been convinced that Vince is attempting to destroy the aura of ECW. He brought it bac from the depths of hell bc fans would never forget its glorious past. No order defunct promotion has this much heat. He brought it back and turned it the worst show ever in order to make its last impressions onto to fans a bitter one. (WM 8 sec match, Mike Ademle broadcasting for months, a silver belt rather than gold, sapping the talent roster, firing the originals, 10pm start time, etc)
As far as I know, Dreamer is the only Original left on the brand. Also, do you hear fans chanting ECW anymore during WWE events? Maybe in New York once in a while, but other than that though.
Vince brought it back so he could kill it and nobody would chant ECW anymore and for the most part it has worked.

Summerslam was better than its getting credit for on the net. Most people are being negative. My only major knock on it were the weakness of the World Title matches on paper. I mean who in the hell wanted to see Henry/hardy or Triple H/Khali? As for JBL/Punk, Punk already beat JBL on Raw, so who gives a shit?
But most of the matches delivered and HIAC might be my pick for MOTY so far.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
As for HIAC? I hate the new oversized HIAC. I mean it just looks ridiculously big. And no blood seemed a little strange, especially considering some of the shots they took. And Fire thing would have had any TNA fan chanting Fire Russo
BUT, the match was still awesome. They came up with some really cool spots. The brawl outside the cage was really cool. And the match was basically TLC inside a Cell, which worked perfectly for these guys. Awesome match.

alithekingshah 3 years ago
It sucks that Foley didnt continue through with this angle and then quit; his involvment with the HIAC might have pushed the match over the edge, especially when Edge did that New Jack spot through the table.
flacohombre 3 years ago
I think alot of people saw that coming with the WWECW World Championship, with brother Jeff making the save. The SD WHC was surprisingly good. Don't need to have another HBK interference cause it already happened, that segment was just right. And yes this was a good Summerslam indeed. Very satsified, Summerslam is allways my fav.
steeltownbrown52 3 years ago
how about the undetaker? did he carry khali to a good (at the most, an O.K) match?
deante320 3 years ago
I saw eet. It was good, better than Summerslams that they put on in the last few years. I was entertained.
Xera077 3 years ago
there was a nice camera spot where i think Undertaker ran across the announcers tables and put edge through the last one and in the aftermath, the cameraguy panned across the two tables and showed the fallen edge and undertaker at the last one. As a broadcasting major and someone who does a lot with cameras and editting and directing, i thought that was brilliant. I liked everything in this match except the hollow ring chokeslam at the end. It sounded like edge landed on pillows
bighustle 3 years ago
tripple h didnt wanna carry the great khali so he could have a good match. the only reason and THE only reason is so tripple h could show he could pedigree khali. tripple is basically have a pissing competition with cena, " cena could f-u khali" so tripple h needs to say he pedigreed khali. its just the way it goes

ECWpaulBest69XD 3 years ago
What you said about the Cena Hate thing is what I've been saying for years. The reason everyone was hating on Cena was because they were sick of seeing him as the champion and always in the same spot. Remember when he first appeared, everyone liked him. Or almost everybody anyway. It wasn't until WM 22 when he'd been champion way too long that fans started to hate him. They said he sucked, and the rest is history.
ElfenLied619 3 years ago
I don't hate Cena, because he's gotten better at wrestling over time, but there was no reason that he should have broken Randy Savage's record of championship duration. Why Vince did that is beyond me. That's a slap in the face to Savage's great career.
victimsofthefuture 3 years ago
Or is it to simply show that today's stars are as good as years past? Having nobody hold the title long looks horrible.
WSForums 3 years ago
I agree there should be longer title reigns, but John Cena isn't as good as Savage in my opinion.
victimsofthefuture 3 years ago
Eh it's hard to judge. Different time periods and different styles. But Cena is at the very least a top draw in the era so I don't think him passing a record set 20 years ago is that bad.
WSForums 3 years ago
Let's just hope HHH doesn't make himself beat Cena's record. He's getting to be like Jeff Jarrett was in TNA's first couple years.
victimsofthefuture 3 years ago
1st time the crowd turned on Cena was Summerslam 05 (I was there!)
Personally, I never cared for Cena. I hate the character. He's a hard worker, & I understand why they use him as the top guy, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
But I am happy that he has been losing lately. Makes the show more bearable for me.
NYG4LIFE123 3 years ago
The powerbomb that Batista hit on Cena was one of the best since he did it to HHH with the sledgehammer in his hand.
victimsofthefuture 3 years ago

Y2Jericho02 3 years ago
you didn't see the match then.
TSlay1974 3 years ago
Yes I did actually watch it, it was slow paced, just an ordincary typical watered down WWE match. I just don't understand how you rated it better than the Victory Road Ultimate X match..
Y2Jericho02 3 years ago
because its edge and the freakin undertaker.
mrbill1000 3 years ago
chain wrestling doesnt make a great wrestler, working a crowd does and connecting with the fans
rossbain123 3 years ago
Chain wrestling doesn't make a match good. The people have to care about what you are doing. You can be the most technically sound guy in the world, but if you can't get a decent reaction from the crowd, you aren't worth shit.
Now Cena & Batista, while no known for being the most technical guys in the world, you put those 2 together and the crowd responded because it was a new & fresh match up between the two biggest young faces in the company.
Match was good & I marked when Dave won
NYG4LIFE123 3 years ago
Chain wrestling is one of the things Shawn Michaels is best at, and his matches are constantly highlights of pay-per-views; and one of the things said about his matches tend to be, "he had some amazing chain wrestling." It really does impress the fans to see it most of the time, too. Even younger, more markish ones can't surpress a wow.
TheImmortal92 3 years ago
Yeah but Michaels knows how to make it work.
And so does Angle, so did Benoit, so does Regal.
But then there are a bunch of young guys who think they can either go out there and do as many highspots as possible or stay on the mat and wrestle the whole match, and the people will eat it up, and that isn't always the case.
NYG4LIFE123 3 years ago
But it worked for these two in this match, in the sense that it just kind of said, "See, we're not completely inept wrestlers!"
Michaels knows how to make it work, but it's not just the super legends like him that do. Jeff and Shelton did an impressive chain wrestling spot on last week's Smackdown (EVEN IF JEFF BOTCHED LIKE SIX MAJOR MOVES!), and Matt Hardy has also done some pretty impressive things, most recently with Edge, because they have awesome chemistry.
TheImmortal92 3 years ago
True but chain wrestling isnt what got them over, obviously it helps to start a match, but its not vital at all. Wow i feel like such a smark debating chain wrestling on youtube with somebody named TheImmortal92, oh yeah this NYG4LIFE has a lot of sence I dont get why all your comments get thumbs down.
rossbain123 3 years ago
TS you made out the ECW title match was pointless, the point of the angle because it was more of an angle than a match was now the Hardys back together. Also I thought the HHH~Khali matach was definatley his best ever match it was acutually entertaining.
MattMystrieo 3 years ago
the ppv overall was a 5/10 at best. most of tna's worst ppv's were better, and that's saying a lot.

6.75 for me

Jericho/HBK feud is great the best feud on raw.

The HIAC was really good. The only thing i hated was the fact that there was no blood =(. Cena/Batista was really good, I look forward to seeing a rematch in the future =D
IwillnotsayIquit 3 years ago
Are you kidding me? The HIAC tore 'Taker's arm to shit. When he was speared through the announce table, a paper was stuck to his arm because he was bleeding everywhere.
DuckmanZero 3 years ago
That was some blood but I was expecting alot more but yea.
IwillnotsayIquit 3 years ago

PUNK vs. JBL match.
EXXXTACY69 3 years ago
I was actually happy that it was CM Punk vs. JBL as opposed to Y2J. Punk got a clean and legitimate win against a top tier (kinda) performer. Wouldn't be surprised if Y2J vs. Punk is next with the interference, but Punk's title reign couldn't survive a DQ against Batista, count out against Kane, then interference win against Y2J with Michaels help.

I refuse to believe that JBL will get another shot.

hound89 3 years ago
i'm convinced and have been convinced that Vince is attempting to destroy the aura of ECW.
ToneyStackz 3 years ago
What do you mean trying? He's already done it.
NYG4LIFE123 3 years ago
Did you notice that the announce table Edge speared Taker through, was the ECW table, and they left the other ones alone? Metaphor???
cheesesteak20 3 years ago
The ECW table replaces the spot that the Spanish announcer's table had at the PPVs. That also includes getting broken on the PPVs as well.

Hardy/MVP - Solid opener
Mixed Tag - Entertaining match, currently marking for Glamarella.
HBK segment - Really good.
Hardy/Henry - Thank God it was short. Keeping it under 20 sec made it worth sitting through.
JBL/Punk - Pretty good match.
Khali/Trips - Way better than anybody ever thought it could be.
Cena/Batista - Pretty good match. Marked big for Batista winning clean.
