I used to like the dungeon music. The strange atonal intro, the chromaticism in the harmonic progression, the oddly regal trumpet sound. I used to try playing it on my keyboard all through the second grade (to no avail, mind you).
I always liked to keep at least one fairy around, even when my potions were better for healing. Just in case I screwed up and died. Because doing stupid stuff is my forte when playing anything.
Yea majora's mask was the only zelda game that made me fill emotional or choked up and I've almost played every zelda game,I like the music in the other zelda games but they're more catchy, atmospheric or awesome, majora's mask was different but badazz, theere's a few scenes in skyward sword that made feel choked up but Im sure if it was the music or not ^_^
I hate this dungeon theme. It's not because the music itself is particularly bad(though I don't think it's all that good either) but the memories associated with this song are just painful. I played this game as a kid and as you might imagine, I got lost in the dungeons. Especially some of the later ones. Running around for well over two hours, not knowing what the hell to do while that song is looping over and over kind of ruined it for me.
Thanks for shortening the video links, Mr. Bailly! I just don't have the time to invest 20 or so minutes into a video now-a-days. 10 minutes are much more digestable.
I haven't even played Majora's Mask. I heard too many bad things about it when it was released, but hearing HCBailly saying it's his favorite really makes me interested. I really find it hard to believe that it would top this game or Ocarina of Time though.
I kind of like this music. It's not Final Fantasy class, but noone can match Uematsu. Besides, the music is different. I remember playing this game when I was like 7 year old. I thought it was so scary, and it was a lot because of the music.
I... I'm quite honored...! Thank you, bro! I didn't know you watched HCBailly!
I was only expressing my honest opinion about that meme, though. I kept being told that I sounded like a certain "epic homosexual villain" when I was. Don't know where that came from...
3:20 Light-world dungeon music is "not so hot?" Ummm, first time I played this I remember getting to the Dark World and hoping against hope that some of the later dungeons would bring back the Light dungeon music, and was disappointed to learn otherwise. Kind of like how I hoped the World of Balance theme from FF6 would pop up somewhere in the World of Ruin, but it didn't.
I think the music in Spirit Tracks is pretty good, but I'm not that keen on the music for link to the past. So glad you are showing all the details of the game in this LP, I really appreciate it.
Don't usually like to be 'that guy' but why not just go back and forth from the screen once to get the item to kill the firefaeries? It works better like this, thematically I suppose.
Majora's Mask finally getting the loving it deserves. Jesus crap that game is good. I have never done this on youtube but I feel that I must:
THUMBS UP IF YOU NOTICED IT WAS MIDNIGHT OF THE FIRST NIGHT, DROPPED EVERYTHING AND HIGHTAILED IT TO THE RANCH TO SAVE THE LITTLE GIRL FROM THE ALIENS EVERY. FRICKIN. TIME.
I totally disagree with the fact that the music in the Zelda series. I loved alot of the songs in OoT, WW and TP too. They really added to the atmosphere of the game. Granted, you don;t exactly go crying at the music, but it's effective.

03:20 Eh, yeah. Not really as "adventurous", but it is a little on the creepy side/feeling of danger, which is somewhat fitting. 05:40 Heh, I was just going to post on here that the boomerang actually hurts the skeletons/stalfos. 07:20 I'm too lazy to pay attention to my health meter, so I always keep fairies in my bottles. :P Man, I remember as a kid struggling to get all the rupees I needed, but playing it now, seems like they just throw them at you.
HCBailly, I just want to say that I very much enjoyed your Final Fantasy VII "Off course!" reference when you went to meet Sahasrahla. Good stuff and a (somewhat?) obscure reference!
Personally, I LOVE the music in the zelda games and it's one of the main reasons I'm playing these games.
OOT has the best music by far in my opinion. It makes me cry when I hear it sometimes, also because it reminds me of my childhood, when I was playing this game.
It's good they changed the faeries back to only restoring 6 hearts in Skyword Sword. A full restore completely broke the other games. Once you had 2 bottles you were invulnerable.
@HCBailly Is there any way you could put in a link that points to the next video in your series in the descriptions of your videos after you upload the new ones? Sometimes youtube makes it hard to find then next video in the series. Especially if they have long titles that get cut off from the site's formatting.
While I mostly disagree with your opinion on the music, I do agree that I find LttP's music feels lacking to me. I mean, I like the rendition of the light world overworld theme and Zelda's theme, but the rest sounds grating to me. I think they tried to make it sound too orchestral, and the SNES just could handle it. Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Mario RPG, and Chrono Trigger are all SNES games that I thought really did a great job with music. Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda, too.
@ShogunGin0 Huh. I actually really like the music in this game. Hyrule Castle and the Dark World theme are possibly the two most well-known and memorable Zelda themes. The music definitely isn't as good as the titles you mentioned (or as good as other SNES titles like Mega Man X or FFVI or DKC2), but it's still one of the better soundtracks on the system, I think. Maybe top 15-20.
Is "Bot thous must" from a specific game? I seem to think that the Great Deku Tree says that in OoT, but it's been much too long since I played that game to remember clearly.
Totally agree with you on Majora's Mask being the best Zelda game. Termina provided a great atmosphere, the mask system was cool, and not to mention how frightening a villain Majora turned out to be. I do very much enjoy Skyward Sword though, and it may not usurp the title of Best Zelda game, but it comes damn close.
HCBailly, whenever you get the time, you gotta play Zelda games Wind Waker and on! You'll love Skyward Sword for its homage to Clock Town (Skyloft is pretty reminiscent of it, with so many side missions and sidetracks to do there, not quite as much as Majora's Mask, but Skyward Sword imo is the most balanced game in the series so far). P.S Can't wait for your FF4 PSP LP as well.
Hey HCBailly, just out of curiosity, what scene from Majora's Mask made you cry? I could take a wild guess, but it'd be great to know which one of the many emotional moments in the game brought a tear to the eye.
I actually like this dungeon music. It's nothing worth listening to outside of the game, but for simply going through the game I think it's pretty fitting for a sort of mysterious theme.
I agree with HCB about Majora's Mask having the most interesting npc's, great soundtrack and compelling plot, but I found the game's MAJOR con was it's dungeons. There were too few and they were painfully long if you hadn't already memorized/used a guide on how to beat them. To me, Ocarina's dungeons were far superior, as they varied in difficulty very well and each was as gloriously atmospheric as the last - and the dungeons are what I love most about Zelda games.
constructive criticism: i love your videos for FF II and III, technical and mathematical, those role plays demanded it, and your dragon warrior videos, it's a mix of technicality with quirky 'but, thou must!' commentary, and FF13, your vids were just fun when the game at time lacked excitement with its linear design, but Zelda is a cult classic.. i like how you go through things, you are a good teacher, but what about more commentary.. how did you feel playing this game for the first time? etc
@DestinyQx I agree, commentary on how he felt playing it the first time would be very interesting. It would be interesting to see how his first memories matched up with mine, when I first played this game at the age of 3.
Steps for a new meme: 1. Everyone is obsessed with the meme. Haters get inappropriately angry at a single mention of it. 2. Rational people realize that it is getting a little too common. 11 year olds struggle to realize this (see "like this for"). 3. The meme comes up occasionally, but everybody and their mother responds with, "Shut the hell up you freaking kid get a life," the response to the reference of said meme, becoming significantly more annoying than the reference itself (see "FIRST").
I do agree with not playing the Zelda games for the music, but for the puzzles. However, the music...I love the music a lot and it is a big part of the series. .The series generally has good music, maybe not make-you-cry music, but still.
BUT THOU MUST!! Lawls! There's just too many of those situations!

In majoras mask I cried when I beet the anju and kafe sidequest and when they play sarai's song

Hey HCBailly, just out of curiosity, what scene from Majora's Mask made you cry? I could take a wild guess, but it'd be great to know which one of the many emotional moments in the game brought a tear to the eye.
Cyron757 2 months ago
@Cyron757 The wedding scene. The final night music and ending song got me a little emotional too.

HCBailly. The music in the Sanctuary dungeons isn't supposed to be adventurous, it's supposed to be a scary! IMO works perfectly for its purpose.

I actually like this dungeon music. It's nothing worth listening to outside of the game, but for simply going through the game I think it's pretty fitting for a sort of mysterious theme.

@HCBailly Turtle Rock is obscenely long and most defiantly not short.

You don't have to get the pendants in order, I got the mountain one before the desert one just to see if I could :P

Your voice & Link's pink hair go together perfectly! lol

I disagree. Music has been a Zelda strong point from this title onwards. Particularly Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask.

Still love how you say "Off course", due to that typo in FF7. Makes me laugh every time.

@NeoBuddhist is it bad that i read that "every time" in DC's voice?

constructive criticism: i love your videos for FF II and III, technical and mathematical, those role plays demanded it, and your dragon warrior videos, it's a mix of technicality with quirky 'but, thou must!' commentary, and FF13, your vids were just fun when the game at time lacked excitement with its linear design, but Zelda is a cult classic.. i like how you go through things, you are a good teacher, but what about more commentary.. how did you feel playing this game for the first time? etc
DestinyQx 2 months ago

TapeofScotch 2 months ago
@TapeofScotch 4. five years later it becomes a subtle joke/reference that people find funny and nostalgic.

huh... "faerie" - so your playing the PAL version of the game?

@Sypran Actually they spell it like that it in all of the SNES versions. On the GBA it was spelled Fairy.

I do agree with not playing the Zelda games for the music, but for the puzzles. However, the music...I love the music a lot and it is a big part of the series. .The series generally has good music, maybe not make-you-cry music, but still.
