  • So...Epic *.*

  • As serious as the song is, I hear

"OH MARMALADE!" over and over in the lyrics...

  • Of course CC soundtrack was better, it had multiple CDs of data it could hold, verses a single cartridge from Chrono Trigger. CC wasn't a very good game anyways

  • suck on that ign

  • any idea if the woman is just making random noises or actually saying something....

  • I've not played this game....but I think I want to now. : D

  • How can anyone hate a game of this quality? I'm disappointed to say.

  • Ahhh, Chrono Cross.. <3 This and Final Fantasy IX were my favorite RPGs when I was a young girl. ^-^ Also had my favorite soundtracks - Dragon God being one of my uber faves. SO DRAMATIC SOUNDING. XD

  • Awesome but i don't get why the normal muic battle sucks so much, the only bad point in this game, i find it really boring

  • @XxBeatexX Battle themes are not Mitsuda's strong point

  • @crimsonbok Yep.

Although "Stage of Death" from Xenogears is kickass.

  • Always hated this game, sorry to say. :|

  • @slightlyoutofreach01 you don't have anything to be sorry lol, everyone has it's own taste I love this game, but that doesn't mean everyone should love it =D

  • @joaquinferrer91 agreed! its good to see someone not say that the the usual "WHAT HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THAT YOU blaw blaw blaw lets argue for 2 weeks"

its funny from what i have seen its a love it or hate it kind of game

ether you love or you dont not much middle ground

  • @slightlyoutofreach01 Same here..... I really want to replay it again though. Cant deny the epic-ness of the music though :D God bless Mr. Mitsuda. The over world theme in the beginning is one of the best there is I think.

  • Omg...the woman singing just makes it hypnotizing...

Chrono Cross and ff9 music was awesome

  • I'll say that I didn't find the game to be the greatest thing since sliced bread (I remember the magic system annoyed the hell out of me, though it's been so long that I have a hard time remembering much else, or for that matter what annoyed me about the magic system) but I recall that it was, at worst, competent, which is still better than a lot of the stuff these days.

  • My absolute favorite Game is Xenogears, however this one or Star Ocean is my second fave :3

  • wow, by the looks of some of the comments on here, some people have been arguing for a year...amazing...

  • Too bad the real last battle doesnt had a song...

  • you know virtually 90% of the rpgs that made this list are pre-ps2 days - aka. snes, ps1, gameboy. That just goes to show the quality of the soundtracks coming out on these new rpgs. I have nothing against the ps3 or xbox360, but there lacks quality rpgs nowadays (FF13 was bland, WKC is boring, etc, etc)

  • @serenadesilhout

i love the occasional awesome theme though

i.e. the esper battle theme from ff12

its sad though how the majority of the soundtracks nowadays are merely passable

  • @serenadesilhout actually Dragon Quest IX got me addicted to the game #_#. I think theres hope yet.

  • @kylesico912 i was just making an observation that tracks nowadays are lacking. There are a few good gems like the FF13 battle theme (which is one of my favorites) and Lost Odyssey (created by none other than sakaguchi and composed by Nobuo Uematsu). The graphics are vastly improved and so is the gameplay, but there seems to be a lack of quality storylines and soundtracks that seem to fit the game.

  • The voices of this music looks a lot like the battle themes from Shadow Hearts series, the first, the second mainly, and third a bit.

    Yasunori Mitsuda FTW.

  • I think the fact that the music sounded so good even on PS1 is a huge accomplishment in itself

  • Chrono Cross just tries too hard IMO. I lost interest after I finally got through the HOLY DRAGON SWORD crap. Why? I realised it wasn't fun.

The story keeps placing TWEESTS and just makes it way too complicated to understand at all until your tenth playthrough.

Battle system is average, too easy when fighting normal enemies since you can fully heal at little to no cost. HDS boss is way too OP, luck is the only way to beat him, bosses after him are so much easier.

    However, the music is superb.

  • All I have to say is that the music for the battle against Fate had better also be in the top 10. Otherwise, you are an idiot.

  • meh this game is okay. chrono trigger blows this out of the park though.

  • @McScreamo not by much ;p

  • this game made me crazy for some weeks . When i finish it, I was totaly empty , my mind was empty, everything was slow somehow haha . Good days!

  • wow, I really feel like buying a PS3 just so I can play all these old ps1 rpgs.

  • oh I remember this theme getting my blood pumping like crazy when it was time to fight the dragons. So epic... it almost felt like a final boss battle.

  • I remember just turning on my playstation1 and letting the menu screen play that angelic music over and over while I was doing other things.

  • I like PS1 RPGs :) Way better than PS2

  • @andretatontos

    In-fucking-deed,

  • Best sound, versus Dragon God

  • This is the song I use when I don't like a boss theme in any game :)

The 8bit version aint so bad either.

  • I got Chrono Cross and FF7 at about the same time( when I was 8, I just started getting into games), and I loved chrono cross so much more I played it over about 5 times. FF7 was amazing as well but that was a 2 times play through for me I loved it but Chrono Cross was far better

  • @beaverweaver3191 agree I prefer chrono cross :D

  • Hands down the greatest game of all time. Beautiful music and a beautiful story.

    Hail Chrono Cross!

  • I just got goosebumps.. I miss this game.. must find a download for this song

  • If CC was remade for the 3DS as CT was remade for the DS, I'd be such a happy man. I was introduced to CT through the DS version and I've never played this one yet. Make it NAOW.

  • @funnyhomeboy1

CC for 3DS would be awesome. That and FFVI and I would be in RPG Paradise

  • @funnyhomeboy1 Sadly, CT was better than CC

  • @FuctUpKid23 That may be true....

But the CC OST was lightyears more sophisticated than CT.

And CT had my top 2 favorite composers on it!

  • @FuctUpKid23 not really but CC had too many characters to control... they couldn't kept a lot of them as just important people to talk to... not use in the party..

  • @FuctUpKid23 you must mean the opposite.

  • @FuctUpKid23 I agree.

Everything about Chrono Trigger was timeless. Play the SNES version of CT and there's no ending FMV where Kid's character is introduced. My point being is that Chrono Trigger didn't really need to be related to Chrono Cross in any way. As two separate games they're both good, but in a comparison test, Chrono Trigger will always win by default as it's one of the greatest games of all time. It's like comparing an old Disney movie to a modern Pixar flick.

  • man, i don't remember if i ever finished this game .__.

  • all i need to say is, best RPG game EVERRR.....!!

  • I love this game. When I first played it I was like O.o

Its awesome in many levels. The story is strong, yet confusing sometimes (or maybe for my 9 years old mind).

Just for the record, kid is quite sexy =P

  • i think it would be sweat if they re-did this game for ps3

  • @42Tonyallen42 I think the best bet would be FFVII, not Chrono Cross. With an FFVII remake all rpg fans will be pleased. :)

  • @42Tonyallen42 absolutely...!!! the same characters, the same storylines, but with better quality....!! it would kick all the other games in the butt....!!!! lol

  • this should be #1

  • Worth to hear , love this song :) The feeling just like see god !

  • personally I think that THIS is the best song of the top 100 but, is only my opinion! xD the song is totally EPIC and is ideal for a boss...

earing this I wanna play chrono cross for number 100 (sorry my english sugshh xD)

  • This brings back great memories. First rpg i played where i liked all the soundtracks. I lost count on how many times i replayed this game, but i had everytime. Oh god...this song makes me feel so gooood. :D

  • THIS BATTLE WAS SO EPIC DESPITE BEING EASY...mainly because of the scene and the music and the feel of it :) true art.

  • @sprawler2121 yep!! loved the "warp" thingy :D

  • Personally CC has THE best soundtrack as a whole.

  • I keep seeing people saying Chrono Cross was a sequel to Chrono Trigger. That is incorrect. Chrono Cross is NOT a sequel. There are some similarities between the two, but Cross isn't a sequel.

Anyways, I absolutely loved both of the Chrono's. I need to beat Cross, so I'm going to download it right now. Haha.

  • best RPG ever !!! best fighting style best music ......way better than FF7

  • CC is the greatest video game sequel.

  • 1 of the best Video Games Ever.

  • Yeah, the plot itself isn't the problem really. It's the pacing of it that's horrible. There's some story in the beginning, bits and pieces in the middle, then practically nothing for hours, then they dump the whole thing on you pretty much all at once before the final boss.

  • Absolutely one of the greatest RPGs ever! In my top five easy!

  • Chrono Trigger still has its placei n my heart as one of the best games of all time. That and starfox. They should have call Cross almost an entirely different game, when I played it my brain died slightly. A good game on its own it should not have been a sequel.

  • One of the best RPG boss battle to me. I swear, this song makes me want to play that boss battle right now.

  • skies of arcadia- battle theme 2 / armada battle?! and im sure more but those come to mind

  • how did skies of arcadia not make it anywhere on this list? Near the top at that. That game had great battle songs, composition wise and through any other perspective. i love chrono cross soundtrack but im not feeling this number.

  • Only two good songs in Chrono Cross: Original World theme and Fanfare. You can thank Chrono Trigger for both. Chrono Cross was garbage, btw.

  • @thisbarb You have no idea what you are missing mate. Play CC more than once and you will begin to see it's epicness; slowly but surely.

  • I honestly thought magus' theme from CT and the normal boss theme of CC were better :(

oh well. I can live :D

  • The best soundtrack for a game that had huge potential. Too bad it turned out mediocre.

  • Bull

  • this should be #1 , best soundtrack :S..

  • @alfredoDota Its epic o.o

Never played the game, but this song is so friggin cool

  • For some reason I hate this song... Oh yeah, DWI.

  • One of the best games ever made, if you ask me.

  • @Gagavision9000 what is the best game ever made

  • I personally like this one, even more than One Winged Angel.

  • duuuude i had this game but it kept freezing second disk :(((((

  • i find myself humming this tune a lot.

  • This two games are more connected than you can imagine. When the Ocean Palace was destroyed,Schala used the last remains of her powers to send you out of there.I don't remember quite well how;but in some part of that disaster,Lavos from another time line fused with Schala to form the Time Devourer. That's why you can see them together in the final battle. You should fight the Dream Devourer from Chrono Trigger DS to understand this a little bit more.

  • Fighting that huge dragon with this theme....nostalgia. This is one of those unforgettable themes that the music indicates just how important the battle is.

  • Hehheeh, true that... I once had the whole soundtrack of the game, and I couldn't stop listening to THIS song...

I wish I had nostalgia for this game as much as I have for Suikoden...

This would mean so much for me than it does. :)

  • Best RPG of its age, period. Also, one of the best opening themes, ever. =)

  • I have to agree, this opening theme is amazing, love it, and I can play thru this game anytime with out getting bored..

  • Amen to that and the replayability with all the different endings, and the endings werent bs either they were quality unlike some of these other games with multiple endings.

  • @tubebandito

I agree. But to me it will be best of all time.

  • @tubebandito Not if you actually enjoyed Chrono Trigger it ain't. Serge is a Gary Stu, and everything about the storyline fucks with everything that made Chrono Trigger so magical.

  • @IYellalot Hey. I enjoyed Chrono Trigger too, but I love Cross more.

  • @MoogleVoodoo that is very interesting...I love CT and CC seems painfully easy to mii until I got to the Red dragon anyway! but to each his own!

  • @tubebandito Good theme? Yes. Best RPG of it's age? Not by a long shot. Ever.

  • @MrSlaide Your probably one of the few who believe that.

  • @PencilShavings Well I do apologize that Chrono Cross gets it's ass handed to itself by a ridiculous amount of rpg in every single renowned popularity poll there is.

Remember kids. Just because YOU like something does not mean it is good. Fact is Chrono cross was an average rpg at best.

  • @MrSlaide Remember kid, just because YOU think something is "average at best" does not necessarily mean it is. Fact is that Chrono Cross was an extremely popular and highly rated RPG, and let's not forget the difference between "fact" and "opinion", which your post clearly shows you have a weak grasp of.

  • @okamimiyazaki Actually kiddo the only reason why Chrono cross was deemed popular was because it got attention due to being an illegitimate child of chrono trigger. Then people realized it was just an average rpg at best and thus why it gets beaten by most rpg's it ever goes up agaisnt in popularity polls. Any polls really. You can keep convincing yourself of the contrary and I'll just ask you a known contest cross ever won. Or did will on just to give you a fighting chance.

  • @MrSlaide

I read a whole lot of opinion but no facts, evidence, or logic to back it up. Thank you for spewing out your opinion and convincing yourself of superiority though.

  • @xXWindG0dXx The day you can come up with the link of a non biased popularity poll where your shitty game did well is the day I'll acknowledge this game as something other than under whelming.

  • @MrSlaide Dude, the game won several GOTY awards (beating out FF9 a few times) and remains popular to this day. If thats not enough to say that this game is, to a lot of people, exceedingly good..I don't know what is. You're mixing up your opinion with fact.

Anyway, Mitsuda is pretty much the best RPG composer, even if his songs sometimes sound a little too dramatic.

  • best game ever!

  • I really enjoyed this game, but I never really thought of it as a direct sequel. The games are related yes, but it's not like you actually see any recurring characters (minus the three spirits and Prometheus's lines, oh and Balthasar). It does help to answer some of the questions you might of had from Chrono Trigger, but if it had to be a sequel to anyhting it'd be a sequel to Radical Dreamer ( With both Kid and Serge coming back).

  • And possibly Magil (Maybe.)

  • I'm not saying it's a bad game. It's a good game. It had the idea of making a different take on Chrono. I just don't think it was executed optimally.

  • I think the biggest thing about Cross that put people off was that it was really, really different from Chrono Trigger. Honestly, the plot tie-ins seemed more like formalities to force it to be a sequel, rather than reasons in themselves for it to be a sequel. Returning characters seemed really OOC and everything tried too hard to be poetic. In addition, the gameplay merely pretended to be different and was ultimately the same old. Chrono Cross is a good game to be sure, but it has its faults.

  • Pretty much. A few tie-ins does'nt make it an entirely new sequel, which is why to me it has more of a 'Gaiden' type feel. But don't put it pass everyone else. They'll target your opinions just because you choose to think differently, which is absurd. I mean....... c'mon...... Final Fantasy XII pratically had the feel of Vagrant Story, yet they tried to pass it off as something new (Laughs to self). Man, it's like people are programmed to be, think, and act the same on youtube... = P

  • Vargrant026 man. I think CC is a sequel because the story wouldn't exist w/ out the events of CT :p Sure is has some tie ins here and there, but wrapping up (um, sorta) Schala's story and managing the after affects of Crono's time hopping really drive the story for me. Why is Serge the time egg? When did Crono drop the ball?! Why is the Masamune (Grandlion) evil? etc etc.

  • Worthy if top 10, for sure.

  • Yeah!!!! Chrono Cross!!! It deservs a remake, surely!!!!!

  • In my opinion CC and CT

    were brotherhood

don't have to talk about relate of this 2 games

    They both Classic

I love Squaresoft's (should called SqureEnix) games

anyway, This theme really attracted me...

  • Yasunori Mitsuda is THE LAW

  • Not a nad choice, definitely a top 100 material, not sure about top 10 though.

  • I don't understand why so many people say

that Chrono Cross is a bad sequel...

I think it's better than CT, and I got all the endings in CT, I really loved that game...

But CC has a better plot (my opinion) and I loved the battle system and the epic moments <3

  • Probably because CT created a plot from scratch, while CC relied more on battles rather than story. CC is a GREAT game, but it just didn't feel like a true sequel. It wasn't disappointing because it was a bad game, but it was more or less for the constant lack of plot development, and the many unanswered questions that came after it. Nor was it smart to add 30+ playable characters that had no relevance to the plot whatsoever. And the fact that it only made cheap references to CT doesn't help.

  • I never understood why people were expecting Cross to bee a direct sequel to Trigger. And then when it wasn't they hold that against it.

I was expecting a spiritual sequel all a long, like the next iteration in a FF title.

  • Not to be Captain Bastard, but the name "Chrono" might have something to do with it. But seriously, if you create hype based on a previous work, it's kind of a sworn duty to make up for that hype by creating: a direct sequel. (E.G.) Resident Evil 2 was a great tie in from RE 1 as advertised by Capcom, so it works. But Chrono Cross was supposed to be a direct sequel from SquareSoft, yet there was too many gaps and inconsistencies for it to be a concrete sequel. It's a Great game, I'm just saying.

  • Sworn duty? Give me a break. You must be pissed at Rockstar since Vice City wasn't a direct sequel to GTA3; since FF8 wasn't a direct sequel to FF7. Did they say they were going to make a direct sequel and didn't? If so then the shits on them.

Or did they say, 'from the creators of Chrono Trigger' and people got their hopes up with false exceptions? If that's the case then it's the hype mongers who are the morons.

  • Dude, you're being ridiculous right now. First and foremost, my opinion, my views. Seconldy, I personally don't give a fuck about the GTA franchise, or most Rockstar games. And thirdly, do you remember the the LOZ Wind Waker situation? What happened to the E3 exposure that we saw before? It wasn't in the game, that's for sure. And since you want to put me in the 'moron' category, only morons attack comments which are based on personal opinion. So, come on and join the crowd, you God Damn moron.

  • You clearly missed the point of my comments. Way to go.

  • If you think it isn't a sequel you don't know a thing about the story it answers almost every question in the story that needs to be answered.

  • (sign).... This again..... you know, I am getting rather tired of people expecting me to have the same cut-in-paste responses that they think I'm supossed to have. Why do I have to see the game the way you, FroLogic, and everyone else sees it? As I said before, throwing a few strong references from the original does not make it a DIRECT sequel. Now, if it was supossed to be from the producers of Chrono Trigger and not an exact sequel of Chrono Trigger, then I would'nt complain.

  • Now, about the complicated stories part & me not knowing a thing about the story: Simply because it's complicated does'nt mean I can't comprehend, so please... stop trying to insult my intelligence. I just see things differently from most of the programmed/brainwashed sheep that's out here on youtube.

  • The funny thing about it is you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • Then, why not point out my flaws? Instead of this grammer school Shit that keeps coming out of your mouth, why not tell me the answers to the questions I have? Because your really not saying too much of anything right now.

  • Very hard to point out all the things you're wrong about in 500 letters. Theres a lot more than just a few tie ins, when you're in chronopolis you should read a little bit of what the npc's say. You obviously don't know much about the story if you think they dont tie in well together if just at small parts. The weird thing about this whole arguement is it seems you have nothing to argue about just randomly getting insulted and throwing bad points in here and there.

  • @Vagrant026

    1. check your spelling: "grammar" not "grammer"

    2. needless capitalization on the word "Shit"

    3. confusion of homophones: use "you're" as a contraction of "you are", not "your"

  • @marinafart You're not weighing on the conversation. In fact, you're not even talking about the game in anyway, form or fashion. I know that my English is not 100% (American English in it's perfection remains to be broken altogether). But, that's besides the point. We're not talking about English. So not to be childish, but STFU.

  • Comment removed

  • @Vagrant026 *grammar

  • @emazinglyemi I appreciate the heads up about my mispelling. But this however is getting OLD. I make one small mispelling, and all of the youtube community points it out? I suppose I'll wait for you to make an error (which will inevitably happen). Or wait... maybe you never mispelled a word in your life? Of course not. I'm sure you spelled each and every word flawlessly... god forbids that you make any mistakes. But thanks anyway... at least you were kind enough to point it out. = P

  • @Vagrant026 Welp, if it's getting old, fix your spelling. c;

  • @emazinglyemi You clearly took that the wrong way... But in any case, I'm done with this ridiculous discussion alltogether. I made some errors that seldomly happens... get over it. And considering the fact that I can't correct something that has already been done here, your recent comment is honestly quite irrelevant. That is all.

  • If you think the game isn't more story than anything you should read up on it. Hardly more of a battle game than story. CC by far has one of the most complex story's every and a lot of people don't understand it.

  • @Tsugandate Chrono Cross was a decent game, but the "Chrono" name in it led people to expect more of it than it delivered.

  • @m3m0rii ? I don't really understand that though personally, I recently played Chrono Trigger for the DS and bought myself a copy of Chrono Cross online. I played it, and absoultely loved it. It had a differing feel that Chrono Trigger that being a bit more darker and confusing in the plot for some people. But It was excatly what I hoped for and more. Though it left some loose strings, I see it as even more reason to keep this series going. So with that, I respectfully disagree with you.

  • People dont like it because its not the SAME as chrono trigger. People wanted chrono trigger 2, not chrono cross. I agree, the story is good, it just takes FOREVER to get good.

  • @Tsugandate true....true.. xD

  • @Tsugandate for the simple reason those people likely never played CC

  • @Tsugandate ya great game... and I dont think they mean its a bad game, just does not have much to do with CT, like every final fantasy game, lol still one of my top favorties

  • @Tsugandate I think it's a great game as well, but I think because the battle system was a little more different than others, it confused a lot of people. As well as because you got some characters, there were others you weren't able to get. Though it's hard choosing a team anyway. I need to find this game again and beat it!

  • @Tsugandate That it is.

  • The best game SqaureSoft ever made...now only if SquareEnix would make a spinoff or sequel

  • I think CC was just awesome ..so much to read and understand, VERY deep story ..a truly epic game IMO

  • This game kick ass and the music too, worthy enough to be the sequel of Chrono Trigger

  • X-play thought it was one of the top 10 most disappointing sequels. I thought it was a fine squel, and I loved the music. =)

  • Fuck X-Play. Standing alongside Chrono Trigger of course it's a few pegs below it; but if you look at it without comparing the two this game was truly outstanding. The music was epic, the story was grand, the battle system was truly innovative. CC was a great game, no matter what X-Play says about it.

  • Fuck X-Play, because I doubt any of them even got more than 15 hours into Chrono Cross to realize it was a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger.

If you asked Sessler or Webb what the true ending to this game is or who Kid really is or her connection to Chrono Trigger you'd get a "huh?" reply.

Game reviews should always be taken with a giant grain of salt ESPECIALLY RPG ones, because RPGs are enjoyed after the 50+ hour of story all come together...not from a 15 hour romp to write a review.

  • I guess they changed the last battle fight a bit in the DS CT. (I haven't finished it yet) to resemble and fit the last battle for CC. Look it up if you haven't already =)

  • Haven't finished the DS version yet is what I meant. ^^;

  • Even though I think it was a fantastic game, it really didn't feel like a true sequel to me... it had more of a 'Side Story' feel to it personally. I don't give a Damn about X-Play, but I kinda agree. That game relied more on combat mechanisms rather than actual character development. Sure you had Serge, Kid, and Lynx, but what about the other 60+ heroes and villains in the game? Why are they even there if they truly have no real part to play? I'm saying this, and I love the Chrono franchise.

  • I just lost some respect for X-play.

  • Another great choice!

  • To me, if you compare this with Trigger then it falls short. BUT if you see it from a standalone point of view, then I see it as a great game :)

  • I am the opposite, but that is just me.

For all those who have been saying CC's character development is weak... it is extremelty strong. You just have to learn to read between the lines and figure out some of it on your own.

That was the great thing about it, not everything was explained or spoonfed to you. It was different in that sense and that is what made it great.

  • Trigger was great, and I still sit down and play it a bit here and there, but I find myself going back to Cross a lot more, trying to figure out what the writers and developers were hinting at instead of just out right saying it. That says a lot about a game when years later it can draw you back over and over again, and it stays enjoyable.

  • Ya thats what I also think ppl just cant get by the fact its not as good as CT

  • Not only was this my favorite song of the game, but it was from my favorite boss battle. And the longest(probably) boss battle at that.

  • Chrono Cross is an awesome game.

  • Although CT was my favorite of the two I will say this CC is still an awesome game and had a much better soundtrark although CT's was still good
