  • If you can afford to run a Shadow 2, and if it fits your lifstyle then this car can only be described as a posession that provides enormous pleasure. The ease of driving the machine, it's so out of step with modern hyper-active products, that enables you, once the big heavy doors are closed, to fall into your own world and honestly not care who or what is around. It's also very practical, with excellent all round vision. No other car in the world can make you feel so relaxed. NONE

  • The music is rapturous and the drive in especially in your Shadow is divine. Thank you for posting.

  • There's nothing that matches the splendour of driving a Rolls Royce!

  • or a Bentley!

  • With Bentley's until 1998 you're right! But Bentley's from today are Volkswagen customized at Bentley's... There remains nothing from the evolutionary History of the ancient marque's Name!

  • The only "current" Bentley adapted from a VW is the Continental Flying Spur, a glorification of the ill-fated VW Phaeton W12, introduced after the VW acquisition. The Phaeton & Flying Spur were assembled (2005-2006) in Dresden, Germany. After the Phaeton line was abandon, production of the Flying Spur resumed at Crewe. The Arange (2001 to current)& Azure models continue with the Rolls-Royce/Crewe heritage.

  • Indeed, you're right! But also on Arnage & Azure look f.e. at the center Armrests which are the same as Phaeton e.t.c.

I used to have a VW Lupo 3L TDI which i upgraded with Bentley Leather e.t.c. and renamed it with a Original Bentley Plate on the rear as: Bentley 3L... everyone was amused!!!

I think BMW does by far the better Job with Rolls-Royce because they thought FIRST about the quintessence of the marque and used to develop a new model !

  • Strike the last comment reguarding "The only current Bentley". I mistakenly mis-spelled Arnage.

  • It is a matter of cost reduction & utilisation of available spares. The nouveau Rolls-Royce Phantom utilises BMW components as well. I would greatly prefer an Arnage to a Continental Flying Spur. The (BMW) Rolls-Royce models are flash & nouveau riche in my opinion. I would greatly prefer a Silver Shadow/Bentley T to the nouveau Phantom.

  • But the proportions of the Car, the effortless whafting of it, the modern and classical interior as well... it is a true Rolls-Royce in every sense! Even if there are many electronical problems affecting the joy over the ownership of that car! I prefered my Silver Cloud and 'Freestone & Webb' Bentley by far ower the Silver Shadow II model as well! The last RR was the Silver Cloud!

  • In my opinion, the quintessential Bentley will always be the S (I/II/III) & T (I/II) series & the "Flying Spur" by H.J. Mulliner. The current Continental Flying Spur & Continental GT/GTC are essentially VW Bentleys. The 1998-2000 Arnage models were bastards due to the utilisation of a BMW engine.
