No offense to Quarter horse people, but Arabian horse reining is so much more interesting. Quarter horses put their heads down and slowly go round the ring, but Arabs lift their heads and tails and give it their all! Now don't get me wrong, they are both magnificent breeds!
I started out in stock horse reining and switched over to the Arabs two years ago. I like the challenge and the money. The shows are so much fun! As far as conformation goes you can breed any horse enough times and get what what you want. The Arabians breed is just as versatile if not move than stock horses. I have a coming 3yr old purebred gelding who turns and stops on a dime after 20 rides. I ride him in a snaffle and spurs. Tell me it's not natural for him?
@canadianjumpergirl14 Seriously! I own 2 Arabians and one of them is a great western horse so of course I prefer them, but it doesn't mean I'm going to go hate on Quarter Horse videos =/
I don't know, in my 4-H club we had a girl that showed on the amateur Quarter horse reining circuit, and one that showed on the arabian circuit. Whenever we would do any barrel racing or a reining class, that Arab would always win, with multiple judges, it was faster in its spins and slid a ton farther that the stock horse.
some breeds are just built for certain sports. This horse is very nice, but if you take the best arabian reiner and the best quarter horse reiner, the quarter horse will probably win. Same thing with barrel racing. Now take a quarter horse and put it in a saddle seat class and well, you'll have something funny to watch. All horses are individuals regardless of breed, but people breed for certain traits. quarter hoses make the best reiners because they are built that way. Arabs can do well though
Some breeds ARE built for certain sports, but the arab is one of the ones built that way. Good arab conformation is almost identical to that of a good stock horse, and if you look at the breed's history, this makes perfect sense. The Bedouins bred the arab as a raiding horse, one that needed to have quick acceleration, be able to turn on a dime, and halt completely at the slightest command, almost exactly like was required of a cow-pony. The Morgan horses will put on a good show too.
Bellairis29- While I get what you're trying to say I have to diubt it a bit. Good Arabian conformation and good QH conformation is hardly IDENTICAL because the Bedouins were nomadic and thus bred more for endurance than specifically quick maneuvers. Almost any small horse is nimble enough to raid a tribe of humans caught unawares. The QH is a more powerful reigner bc they have been bred for stronger haunches . Arabians were meant to travel long distances in the desert.
While many QH do have more heavier muscling than an arab, there is a lot of variation in conformation in both breeds, and I have seen plenty of pure QH horses hardly fit to be described as such. It tends to vary among bloodlines, and a lot of Polish and Russian bred Arabs have very well made hindquarters for a western horse because of the emphasis on sprint-racers in the breeding programs of those countries.
Obviously traits vary within breeds but we are talking generalities. That said, you take 100 QH and 100 arabs, and race them 1/4 mile, chances are most of the QH will have better times. Similarly, Arabs will tend to be better endurance horses and excel in things like saddle seat/ dressage. I have a QH that I event, hardly a "typical" QH sport. I'm not saying any breed has an exclusive hold on a sport, but let's not be ignorant to why certain breeds tend to excel in certain disciplines.
I love arabian reining and am extremely supportive of it. I am tired of people dissing this lovely breed and marking them as "high maintence" and "prissy"..excuse ME but the majority of them are NOT - there are exceptions to EVERY rule. I own a very overreactive QH 8yr and she's more hyper-spaz then my 4yr old arabian. Stop focusing on the fact that arabs are very, VERY showy and realize that they are JUST as capable(if not MORE in some cases!) then your average reining QH. So..suck it up =P
Any horse can do anything. Though some are built better for some sports. It doesn't matter the breed. I wish you people would stop thinking in terms like that. Its true a draft horse may not win against a QH in reining or a pony racing against a TB. But hey, they CAN DO IT! I have seen Qh in endurance races along side Arabs and Walkers. I've seen QHs, Arabs, Paints jump cross country obstacles that people think only Warmbloods can jump. So it doesn't matter.
again issue starting with the left lead.i do like the way she's just cuisin the horse and correcting the mistakes before goin on. did't wanna get in the ground all the way on the last stop either.
Who in their right mind would take an Arabian reining? This should be left to stock horse breed. Arabians are great for endurance, but they don't have a good enough turn of foot for the short acceleration or fast turning of reining.
I'm sure you might not like the Arabian as a reining horse, but numerous QH owners are jumping in on the band wagon and breeding 1/2 QH 1/2 Arabian for the sole purpose of reining. The sweepstakes and price money is outstanding and growing every year in the 1/2 Arabian Reining division.
I can understand a crossbreed, after all, many of the most versatile breeds emerged from various genetic cocktails. However, a pureblood Arabian is no more capable of serious reining than a Quarter Horse would be for a 100 mile endurance race. I'm not talking about bashing any particular breed (I personally tend to stick with crossbreds), I'm just pointing out the physiological disadvantage an Arabian has at these sorts of competitions.
@thepsychoferret Arabians are swift and can turn on the dime. Quarter Horse are good too yes. I have a Quarter Horse and have a love for Arabians and one day will own one but just cause you don't like Arabians doesn't mean you can put them down. They are very athletic and can do about anything. It just depends on the horse!! Any Type of horse!!
@thepsychoferret I've got a stock mare, and I've got an arab gelding. My arab gelding, at 20, accelerates, stops, turns, and spins way faster than my quarterhorse mare. I've also done pretty good on him barrel racing. Rab's are quick, agile little buggers, and they learn real quick. I'm not surprised they're gaining popularity. Don't get me wrong, stock horses have a good deal of power and just plain look good doing this stuff. Just don't knock what you ain't tried or don't understand. :)
What are they afraid to gallop in a few circles or something? The scores for the first horse was like in the 60s! They could have done better. Maybe pick up the pace on all they're maneuvers.
mb some horses look better sloow, or faster. depends . every horse has there own level. not everyhorse will b like a robot and do everything the same.
we can go back to speed if you would like. still these arabs made it this far to NATIONALS. not everyhorse shown in the reining industry can do that. btw. GO CRYSTALLLLL!
no no no. ok so u know they rnt winning 100k here so they rnt going to push it to die. apprenly at this point u dont understand. if u do reining you would. so guess u dont.
please take a turn riding all these diffrent types of arabs, and there diffrent levels and speeds, before you start to judge them. yes. i am mature :-)
Judge them? I never judged the Arabian differently than other horses. I was talk these horses and their riders performing the patterns at a slow pace. I've ridden Arabs before, I've ridden an Arab that was the great grand daughter to Khemosabi.
i dont believe its that slow...ive seen slower. besides i bet crystal knows what shes doing and other trainers if there going at the pace there at...im done here...adios..
I love the versatility of an arab-- ever seen a qh take on a 100 mile race? ;) arabs are so beautiful and elegant whether they are reining, jumping, going park or western pleasure-- so much class while they do it!
dang it, clicked the wrong button, sorry MyBuddyBucky.
Any ways, park and native costume doesn't fall under the category as versatile. Any one can dress their horse up. And any one can park their horse. And country english pleasure? What the heck is that. I've heard of english please, but no country.
its diffrent then english pleasure alone. and then theres park and showhack and it goes on. no park is a class, where u trot huge and there so lifted up and look good. and no u cant dress up ur hrse and make it look like an arab with its tail and body and the way it mvoes!
Did I say anyone can dress a horse up and look like an arab? No, I said it isn't versatile, which means any horse can be dressed up.When you said park, what I thought you were talking about is when they park the horse out (stretch him out) in the halter classes. That's what I thought you meant.
I dont think the QH is more versatile. . . can a QH do Country english pleasure? didnt think so. Can it do park? didnt think so . native costume? nope... arabs can do aton of stuff.
Well i'm very impessed! I have a Welsh D cross who can do the very basics! There is hope for us yet...but its just fun to us. I agree the QH is well made for the job, but the Arabs are impressive too!
Quarter horses are born for WESTERN events, this is one of many, the Arabian is born for show class and perfection, not usually for riding, but I guess it all depends on the owner and horse
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i didnt mean that they cant be ridden im just sayin that the AQHA was born for western, and my personal opinion is that arabians look better as show and haulter horses, although Arabians have smoothe gaits!
it was an opinion. I never said that the Arabian COULDNT do this, I just basically said that the QH can do this much better, if you would be able to comprehend what I ment. I didnt mean to accuse anyone/horses, its just my opinion, so if your pissed at me im sorry but it was an opinion,Im not responding to this anymore because people get sooo upset over an OPINION, everyone has opinions and you should have a right to say your opinion without someone "chewing you out"
