  • yea i can see this

  • Thanks, disabled1955. That explains a lot. One question remains - how did Ted last six months? Not a good actor! :)

  • The cancellation is a total mistake and ABC will realize this when the ratings hit rock bottom! I guess they will have to *chew* that one.

  • These two were my favorites. Nick and Mona. Erica was 15 yrs. when she joined the show. She treated her good and sweet mother badly.

  • These two were my favorites.

  • Erica, always looking for the corner of 5th street and pine

  • Didn't Erica have a crush on Nick and then he eventually swept her off her feet and they got married? I have patches of memories of the show from back then when I was 6 and would be playing with cars and trucks on the floor as my granny watched her "sereals" !

  • she was always so tiny! me too, just the same, same height, waist, everything. whenever i feel insecure about being so small and thin, i think of her and feel better! LOL

  • I already know how to cook thank you...now chew THAT.

  • TV killed radio shows, and now the internet will kill TV. I'm glad I decided to get on the wave:) I hope All My Children does prevail on the internet:)

  • Brians Frons should stay away from the two soap operas of All My Children and One Life to Live, and he's certainly have no right to call it a cancellation and ending the two soaps. The two soaps must go back on air only on ABC Daytime. The two evil shows The Chew and The Revolution should get their freaking boring and disgusting cooking talk show off and away from the daytime soap opera television viewers. All viewers doesn't like The Chew and The Revolution because we're useless.

  • @chr5210 if 'The View' amd 'The Revolution', though the former has been panned left and right, break even with AMC & OLTL ratings-wise, that's the point..whether the networks, et. al. lose money, it won't be as much from producing food and talk shows as opposed to expensively-produced soaps..this is the only reason why they're going away - and rather quickly, with GH being next..it's all a matter of finances - and to hell with us!!!

  • @disabled1955 All viewers got enough of Brian Frons' scheming The Chew and The Revolution are liars as frauds.

  • The lovely Mary Fickett!

  • I wish they would show AMC on the SOAP channel. The episodes that are missing, Susan can explain what happened....

  • mary fickett who played ruth has passed away(sept 8, 2011) at age 83

  • drake sent me here

  • @kevinrules99 the rapper? what did he say?

  • @MrKnowles11 he said "Soap opera rappers, all these niggas sound like all my children" from "headlines"

  • wow! How far AMC has come from this! But one thing hasn't changed. It's all about ERICA ! LOL

  • You've got to be kidding they never preserved the old soaps from 1970 to 76?! What the hell were they thinking?!

  • @johnyzero2000 Some shows were kept, I think Days is intact from the beginning and Y&R as well. I know Agnes Nixon kept shows but they were destroyed in a fire or something.

  • I bet Susan Lucci had no idea 40 years from now she would still be on the show and would be the star of it

  • how old is she........5?

  • Want to let the advertisers know you want AMC, OLTL & GH to remain on the air? Come to the ABC Upfront Presentation Protest Rally in NYC outside Lincoln Center on May 17, 2011 from 2-6pm. For more info, visit the Soap Fans United website. Tell your family & friends!

  • all my children is not the same anymore the writers are maken everyone stupid.and not interesting anymore sorry for the spelling.

  • Oh my goodness! MEMORIES! I began watching this show when I was 19 very shortly after it came on. I tried to watch every episode for years. Loved it. So much that I named my second daughter Erica. Little did I know that she would look so much like her and sometimes act like her. Uncanny for real.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, unless there are some more early episodes out there, this is THE earliest Erica Kane scene still in existence (besides Susan Lucci's audition tape). Savor it. Thanks, Donna.

  • was this back when the soap was only half an hour long?

  • @TLContessa the tall guy with dark hair? i think i remember.

  • @TLContessa omg! is that why erica hated kendall? who is bianca's dad? demetri?

  • Comment removed

  • Great seeing this again 40 years later!!

  • Pre-plastic surgery.

  • can anyone name all of Erica's husbands. I think 1st two were Phillip Brent and Jeff Martin. Can someone out there help me. I remember the real early ones, but I don't remember who came first.

  • @gotch09 Erica Kane Martin Brent Cudahy Chandler Montgomery Montgomery Chandler Marick Marick Montgomery. Soon to be Montgomery again because Jackson and her are supposedly getting married. Got her name from pinevalleybulletin . com :]

  • @reva383 So over the years, Erica's had a real thing about marrying Montgomerys, Chandlers and Maricks?

  • @gotch09 lol pretty much.

  • @gotch09 Jeff Martin came first; then Phil Brent; then she was married to Tom Cudahy; then to Adam Chandler (twice) Dimitri Marick (twice); Travis Montgomery (twice) and Jackson Montgomery (twice). Does that help clear up the confusion?

  • @AlbieGray Thanks. Erica was a little marrying fool.

  • @gotch09 She certainly was. However a couple of her marriages were null and void, because of the chicanery of Adam Chandler. When it came to marriage, he was quite the fool too! As many times as HE was married. First, he was married to Althea, then to, among others, Brooke (who often brought out the best in him); Erica (twice); Liza (twice) Gloria; Arlene (Hayley's mother); Dixie. He was no better with marriage than Erica was.

  • @AlbieGray Oddly enough I didn't watch David that much on AMC. But I do remember him very well as "Candy" on Bonaza, After Parnell Roberts left, I guess they had to put somebody in his place.

  • @gotch09 Yeah, that is so true. But then again, until he joined AMC as Adam and Stuart, he was mainly known as the last Steve Frame on Another World. Then in 1984, he joined as Adam Chandler and Stuart Chandler. And he had done a fantastic job.

  • I think todays soap opera writers directors and producers could learn something from these scenes no over acting the actors look like normal people not like theyve all walked out of a top modeling agency the plot bulds up slowly and the dlouge between characters is the thing not shocking revalation after revaltion and an over reliance on sugistive fliriting and sex which with lashings of incedental music today soaps are all gloss and no depth

  • omg erica was so young in 1970 i luv her hair lol so 70s

  • I loved the eye roll!

  • i love the long meaningful scenes with each characters interacvting with each other and no bitch slapping and carrying on and illiscit sex

  • I always thought th denizen of Pine Valley, especially in the beginning looked down thei noses on Erica to begin with, especially that bitch Phoebe Tyler

  • What Erica's problem was that she did not know how to love herself. She wanted more for herself in life & lets be real who the hell doesn't? I'm not condoning some of her behavior over the years, but referring to her just as merely a "bitch" is superficial & shallow.

  • and SO BEGAN one of the greatest soap characters in TV history - and 40 years later, STILL looking better than EVER!!!!

  • you know what the bad part is? erica treated mona kinda crappy because she thought mona could have did more to keep their father, but it was not until mona died that erica realized what she had in her mother.

  • @toony826 I always loved Mona----the stalwart, ever-adoring, always-wise mother. Fra Heflin (Van's sister) was an amazing actress. When she "died", I mourned and loved that Erica suffered, as she had mistreated this wonderful woman so often, leaving Mona to clean up her many, many messes. When my own beloved mother passed away, I thought of Mona....and I was so happy I treated my own mom with respect and love.

  • erica was such a bitch when she was 17

  • Erica's problem was that she couldn't handle not being the center of attention. Also, you see even then how her Father's leaving her affected her when she talked about her future with a Man.

  • My dad left us wen i was veary veary young i can see were she's coming from, but when i was 17 i was a good kid and i was good to my mom.

  • @KRstar78 : she was suppose to be 15 in this scene FYI.

  • That's funny because in the spring of 70 she graduated high school.

witch would have made her 17. i think15 is just the base the writers wanted

  • @KRstar78 Erica is till a bitch

  • @KRstar78 - And still is. But the funny thing is, it all made more sense after all of the Richard Fields/Kendall Hart mess came out. I guess getting raped and impregnated at 14 AND finding out that your dad set it up would make a woman a man-hating bitch, too.

Isn't it funny how Nick and Mona hung out as friends? You don't see that now. Now, it's like every man and woman have to be screwing. No wonder people don't think men and women can be JUST FRIENDS.

  • @rpm8064 So she already had Kendall?

  • @1203kitkat - Yes. The Kendall Hart storyline came about in the 90's but the history of it pre-dates the show. The rape would have occurred when Erica was 14; which would have been 1969. So despite all of the AMC character "re-aging", Kendall would actually be 41 and Erica would be 55 (Although Susan Lucci will be 64 next week and Alicia Minshew is 36 - per Wikipedia).

  • @rpm8064 so kendal was conceived from erica being raped?

  • @KRstar78 I thought she was 17 too on this show but she is now 65 and the show has been on for 40 years and she has been apart of it from the very beginning.

  • @KRstar78 Bitch is profanity. Bitch is not allow in the 1970's according to censorship Seal of Good Practice Television Code from the National Association Broadcasters.

  • @chr5210 its fuuny that you say this because things changed in the 80's when i commeted on erica i was refering to her behavor and her attitude as a teenager not becacuse she's a woman. She was vary difficult.

  • @KRstar78 Stop. You didn't type and post spellings while spreading comments correctly. It's goes. "It's funny that you say this because things changed in the 80's when I commented on Erica, I was refering to her behavior and her attitude as a teenager not because she's a woman. She was very difficult". First use an upper cases, lower cases and punctuations, that's what Grammar American English language is.

  • @chr5210 So you are a professor of english, really? You knew what I ment.

  • sorry about the typo ( witch) but other then that--your a idiot!---P.S rent the movie

  • sorry i was watching '' boys in the band '' and trying to figure out witch one was you. ;)O

  • thats becus your a OLD FAG!!!

  • you for got to add homophope in your profile.

  • @KRstar78 lololol

  • i am aso a dude and i am 24 years old and i love soaps like cooked food

  • I'm a dude and I've loved amc for many years. it has to be one of the best shows ever. I don't know what's going on now, but i know about the good ol' days.

philly suburb...small community...young love...old money...people from the wrong side of the tracks...and you can't go wrong...that's all my children.

  • i love watching old clips especially of erica kane. hahaha the music was so dramatic

  • I love the chemistry between Erica and Mona. Frances Heflin was also a beautiful woman. May she R.I.P.

  • Erica/Susan is a true Diva

  • Speaking of AMC, is anyone else getting massively bored with Kendall?? Gawd, gag me already. She's become a whiney, stuttering BORE.

  • I had more of my fiar share of Kendall. She, JR, Ryan and Jesse are the reasons I do not watch anymore.

  • I remember on Oprah seeing a clip from 1974 when Erica Kane Brent miscarried Phil Brent's baby. Erica was so stunning in her half turban & you could see that she desperately wanted to have Phil's baby. I think she had a breakdown right after that happened if I'm not mistaken.

  • erica also miscarried dimitri's baby in 96 or 97,. i think that was what motivated her to kidnap maria's baby b/c she wanted to use that baby to replace the one she lost with dimitri and especially since she thought maddie/sonya was dimitri's daughter. didn't erica also blame maria for her miscarrying dimitri's baby. if i remember correctly erica suffered a miscarriage during her last wedding to dimitri

  • Yes Travis you are right on all accounts. erica found out about Dimiti and Maria's one night stand and believed that Dimitri was the father(Skye seduced Andy, a lab technician to fudge results to make it look like Dim's instead of Edmund's coz she wanted Edmund) Anyhoo, she miscarried at Dimitri's wedding and wanted revenge so she delivered Maria's baby in the cabin, lied to her that the child was stillborn, then moved to Europe with Maddie and raised her as "sonya."

  • Yes Susan Lucci had a real life miscarriage. It was the pregnancy before Liza Huber.

  • that is awsome that someone could find an episode as old as this! :D

  • yeah it is. It was found on a minseries that Reba McEntire hosted in 1997 after The City was cancelled and before Port Charles came on. For the month of that May, Reba hosted a bunch of classic episodes that were reran. I guess favorites that made ABC daytime history and apparently this one from 1970 made the cut.

  • I wish they still had long scenes like these, not now like music videos.

  • Yeah I noticed the difference.

  • Erica had Mona, just like AW's Rachel had Ada and ATWT's Lisa had Alma.

  • Yeah soaps also examined the power of mother-daughter relationships back in the day too. Those were just as important as husband-wife teams. I think the whole idea of Erica/Mona came from AW's Rachel and Ada as Agnes Nixon created both AW and AMC.

  • the very first episode I watched was when Philip came back from Vietnam and found out that Tara had married Chuck. I think this was about 1974. I was 13 years old, and I was hooked. The storylines and characters were soooo much better than they are now. I loved Phil & Tara, Benny & Estelle, Chuck & Donna, Cliff & Nina, Greg & Jenny, Jeff & Mary.

  • susan was very young in this scene and still takes care of herself butt theirz really nothing anyone can do about old age its inevitable. theirz no fountain of youth to drink from. no chance whatsoever anyone will reverse to the age they felt comfortable at.

  • when is the real erica kane coming back i'm getting bored of cing her play nurse to adam chandler.

  • who's the boy erica is talking 2

  • it is strange seeing how she calls him a creep yet she has an affair with him years later.

  • this is susan lucci's first scene on the show that made her a living legend the queen of daytime and the reason y we love erica kane.

  • Wasnt her first husband a martin? Also how was nick phil brent bio dad? Wasnt phil erica's second? thats gross she had an afair with nick right and she married his son? Please fill me in on the history lol

  • phil's antural parents are nick davis and amy. amy gave him to her sister ruth brent when he was born .ruth along with her husband mr brent raised phil as their own

  • oh ok thanks so much.

  • Jeff Martin (Tad and Jake's brother) was La Kane's first husband. Phil was #2. Tom Cudahy was #3.

  • yeah i remember now jeff martin was her first husband thanks i knew he was martin i just couldnt remember the name lol

  • adam Chandler was #4 Mike Roy was #5(invalid) Travis was #6 and 7 Adam was number 8 Dimitri was 9 and 10 and Jackson was 11. All out of piggies! But Adam Chandler and Asa Buchanan have her beat!

  • who's the guy sitting on the couch

  • the talking to to mona is nick davis, phil brent's biological dad

  • How is he Phli's bio dad? Was phil adopted by ruth and her husband? I wasnt born when the soap premiered so I dont know all the history I started watching in the 80s when i was about 6 during the jenny/greg era

  • Little did she know then how popular and famous her character would be - and that she would be on the show 40 years!

  • Susan Lucci grew up on daytime television, she was 17 or 18 in 1970 when

    All My Children debut.

  • More like 23 and a newlywed when the show premiered in 1970!

  • Susan Lucci grew up on daytime television, she was 17 or 18 in 1970 when

    All My Children debut.

    =========================

No Erica Kane was 17 or 18. :)

  • I used to watch this back when it started in 1970, and when I look at this clip, I can't believe it was almost 40 years ago! Soaps were a lot more believable back then..........storylines were more believable and the people all looked like normal people, and not overly processed, carved-out-of-cream-cheese supermodels.

  • all my children has a tense story line it just keeps going on and on...look at that and look at it now!!

  • wow I was born in 98 and and AMC been around long time !! my mom was 2 when it came out

  • i sell/trade soap opera stuff and i also want to know who out there has soap stuff they don't mind trading/selling.please contact me if you want to trade with me or sell any soap stuff or buy

  • "People and needs change" You tell it Mona that is why Erica has been married 10 times?

  • thats mona!!!!!! OH my god!!! shes so young

  • What a Gem,Thanks again Donna for sharing.

  • Thanx a million for posting. I was born in 1987. I didn't even start watching 'til 2006. I'm waaaay, waaaay late. I'm trying to watch every episode I can get my hands on from 1970-2006. I've got a long way to go.

  • jax420cky i was born in 1985 so don't feel bad ok bro or sis? my name is travis by the way

  • I was born in 1976 and i started watching in 82 lol. I was around during the greg/jenny era. I stopped watching back in 1997 after they "killed"off Maria and then when i tried to watch later it just got stupid to me so i lost interest lol. I remember the glory days of amc. its just not the same anymore.

  • I was lucky to see Agnes' work on ANOTHER WORLD as a child in the late 1960s before (abc) lured her over there to premiere her own creations (AMC and OLTL). This scene looks exactly like the bitchy young Rachel (then played by Robin Strasser, now Dorian on OLTL) and her single hardworking blonde mama Ada (the late Constance Ford). When Agnes got the job as AW head writer, she invented Ada & Rachel, based on her earlier stories stowed away of Mona & Erica. AMC was dejavous to AW fans.

  • WOW this was GREAT to watch!

  • the actress who played TAra and in Saturday night fever was fictionally portrayed in the movie 54. (about Studio 54, not such a great movie, but pretty Neve Campbell played the said actress)

  • GOD!! Where did you get this wonderful classic? remember all those fabulous characters ??Phil Brent,Ann Tyler,Margo Flax, and of course the grand dame of Pine Valley---Phoebe Tyler..ahhh yesteryear..

  • thank you so much for posting this,I was six months old when AMC was on the air,so i never did see this..

  • i was born in 1985 so if this episode aired in 1970 i wasn't even a gleam in anyone's eyes

  • Well Travis, you're without a doubt a Gleam to your family, friends, and love now.

  • As I sit here watching this again,(because I love classic episodes of soaps), I wonder if the writers' strike would have gone on longer, would the networks have pre empted soaps with classics episodes like this one, I would have loved that.

  • thanks for the memory....................

  • Erica was one of the original vixens. She's selfish, self-centered, rude, childish, narsacistic, etc. but at the same time she's very charming and once she grew up she developed a very warm and kind heart.

  • Considering that Agnes, Bill Bell and Irna Phillips had a hand in creating the first three bad girls of daytime history---Erica in 1970, ATWT's Lisa in 1960 and AW's Rachel in 1966.

  • Bad girls on soaps back then were written that way. Erica, Lisa, Rachel, SEARCH's Stephanie Wyatt (played Maree Cheatham), EDGE's Raven (Sharon Gabet).

  • was susan lucci wearinf falsies? not to be disrespectful, but she's so thin now, and has a very small bustline.

  • Erica: "Are you here again?" <Looking disgusted)

Wow, Erica was even a bitch in 1970! LOL Love it

  • Erica always called Mona "plain". She was very attractive. Simple, not alot of makeup, but a wonderful face. She was a long-suffering mother. She was made to be a homebody, but she was lovely in her own way.

  • Damn!! Mona actually looks kinda sexy here..it's so long ago! LOL!

  • This episode was actually taped in 1969. All My Children first debuted on January, 5 1970.

They tape soap operas weeks in advance. It's such a shame AMC has gone down the tube. I'm glad they brought angie and jessie back!

  • This is when I first started watching AMC. I skipped school for one month to watch it when I was in the 7th grade. I hated going back to school. Didn't want to miss a show. When I was growing up I wanted to be Ms. Kane. I loved her and still do. It used to be on for 1/2 hr in black and white. Wow this is great!

  • love it

  • it's my understanding that both amc and oltl debuted in color but the black/white episodes are from kinescope

  • WOW Ericka Kane in black and white. How old is she in this episode? I love watching these old shows. This show has changed so much.

  • sugaplum02:WOW Ericka Kane in black and white. How old is she in this episode

They weren't in black and white, originally; most of the time MOST shows were NOT saved, on any network, because videotape was extremely expensive then. They would re-use the same tape reels over and over again. Occasionally, someone would save a few episodes, here and there, on either U-matic video or b&w kinescope 16mm FILM (this one) or open reel video machines, which were also b&w, for the most part.

  • i wasnt born until 1976 and didnt watch amc from the beginning. who was that laid out on the floor unconcious by the phone?

  • It was Phil Brent, played by Richard Hatch (not the one from Survivor). He was part of AMC's first super couple, Phil and Tara (Martin). I started watching in '71 or '72 so this episode is before my time-not sure why he's on the floor. It was odd to finally see Ted Brent. He was gone when I started to watch.

  • Oh ok thanks.

  • it's so fun to watch a soap for years and some of the same charcterd from decades ago are still around.

  • what i like about these episodes is that there is no music until the ending of the scene. it causes me to focus more on what's going on in the scene.

  • Phil was on the floor because of a gas leak in the house...in the next episode, Nick comes to his rescue (against Mona's wishes, he goes to the Brents' house).

  • @sorman10 FYI, in an attempt to keep Nick from telling Philip he was his 'real father', Ted got into an accident and was killed six months into AMC's run....

  • i was born in 1985 and i didn't become familiar with this show until 1997 when i migrated from jamaica to the united states.i am 22 years old and i prefer the old black and white episodes over what's been offered on the soaps these days. soaps are all about character and plot comes after but these days plots are taking precedence over characters and their histories

  • In the earlier episodes, she had stright hair parted in the middle. About half way down her back. That hairdo was da bomb in 1970. Semi-shag like Jane Fonda. I love Erica in this ep - she was such a Be-atch.

  • Yeah, she was definitely that; but now, she's mellowed, but she can still rear her be-atchy side on occasion, especially when her family is threatened.

  • who is that erica is talking to?

  • His name is Nick davis a friend of Erica's mother and in 1976 Erica had an afair with Nick, how weird is that?

  • thanks but i was talking about the other young lad she was talking to after she had words with nick

  • You know what? I think that might be a young Charles Tyler

  • thanks.

  • @jasoncarly i thought that was 1977?.....

  • @disabled1955 Ohhh. I was born in 76 what do I know? LOL

  • God, Erica was so funny-looking back then

  • I loved Erica with very dark hair. Probabaly dark brown. Unfortunaely this is one of the few episodes saved prior to 1978. It was originally in color. It was so faded they converted it to B&W. When Agnes Nixon sold

AMC to ABC, one of her requirements was that they arquive every new episode. Every episode that still exists from July, 1978 until the present. especially the episodes with Phoebe and Langely. Greg and Jenny - what can I say - the Golden Years of "All My children".

  • Not to be picky or anything, but they actually started saving the episodes some time in 1976. ABC wanted to expand the show to an hour, but Agnes wouldn't do it unless they promised to start keeping archives of the show. They did, and so the show expanded on 4/25/1977.

  • @allmyshadows if memory serves, the 'teaser' to keep the audience going was Philip Brend (Nick Benedict) being shot in the line of duty...

  • sadly, based on this clip alone i can tell the show was much more entertaining than it is now. amc hasn't been good in a long time...

  • Did Erica's father ever appear? xx

  • yes he did in the late 80's early 90's

  • It's funny how Erica is calling Nick a creep here but a few years later she was all up in his bed. In fact, "that creep" had her strung out for a while - LOL!

  • Erica, Erica you wicked little creature!

  • Seeing Erica this young is surreal.

  • ABC needs to stop playing and put "Daytime to Remember" back on and stop showing the crap they show today.

This was when soaps had conversations that was realistic.

  • Lucci(Erica) was only 22 here -- of course she's playing, like, four years younger. But she had already graduated from college by the time she got this part.

  • the days of charcaters on soaps having meaningful conversations are over

  • I agree.
