  • i drive montreal to boston in snowstorms (with winter tires) without issue. great car.

  • This car has no place or market in the US outside of super-dense cities like NYC. The one and only advantage is that you can parallel park in smaller spaces...or park 2 in a normal parking space (good luck finding other smart cars). Subcompacts and compacts like the Fiesta, Focus, Cruze, Cobalt, Accent, Yaris, Fit, and Elantra offer SO much more car for your money, can fit in any normal parking space, and still manage to get over 30mpg city and somewhere in the neighborhood of 40mpg highway...

  • the 2007-present Smart Fortwo is assembled in

    Böblingen, Germany

    Hambach, France

  • I own Smart fortwo passion coupe with navigation and it's the best car anyone can drive it goes actually not bad at all in any area and I don't ever have to worry about parking or about the fact is my car too long to drive just to say it rules the streets today.

  • Smart Fortwo isn't a good "reviewers car", so to speak. The transmission is not as horrible as most first time testers make it out to be, you just have to learn to use it. Now, I'm not saying that the transmission is perfect when you get used to it, but it's not really that bad. The Fortwo is an excellent city car with excellent safety, for a such small car.

  • This is not a review. This is just a video hating at all the features on the smart car!!! GET THIS VIDEO OFF!

  • In the uk anyone will ride your bumper or cut u off what ever car your driving, dosen't make any difference what so ever, people just don't care and have me first attitudes here and fcuk u lol.

  • My dad has rented one for Sunday for him and I to test out. I AM SO EXCITED AND HAPPY!!!!!!

  • Guess no one told him about the paddle shifters.....

  • I can't believe what he say about the car.So far is the best car.Good green : - )

  • I've just bought a 2007 ForTwo Passion and from my experience, I think this video is spot on. BUT I still really love my car! It excels in British town, which have narrow, congested streets, where speed and power aren't important, but parking and fuel consumption are!! My last car was a 2.2L gas guzzler which cost an arm and a leg to run. I'm pleased with my choice.

  • @Croagh lmao a 2.2l gas guzzler

  • @yousuf510 Hey sunshine, don't scoff. Just do the maths. Petrol in the UK is £1.35 or $2.16 per litre (highest in Europe). Which is $8.17 per US gallon. A car that does 30 mpg and on a carbon based road tax of £300 per year ($480), that starts to add up. Small cars make sense over here.

  • @Croagh sorry i wont scoff again

  • Joe, I think you should find another job, I'm on my second Smart car, and I loved them both.

  • How many clowns can you fit in that thing??

  • @Teeebs I think 15 cheerleaders is the record (or 13 hooters girls in a US one)

  • I have the 2000 model smart car, and its brill, this guy is used to driving a large petrol guzzler, he needs to get with the times

  • Which moron decided to name this car a "Smart"?

  • @dotZodiac "smart" is an acronym for "Swatch Mercedes Art"...The name implies nothing, just an acronym.

  • Joe is a blatant fool, cars(.)com has lost any interest I had in them...

  • This review is the worst rubbish ever seen on you tube.

He did'nt even mentioned the Tridion steel safety shell.

And what about the breakes ?

I drive a Smart For Two every day.

The only truth in this review is the sidewindproblem.

  • @mrfakecom Smart doesn't make sense in the US. You said rubbish, must be from UK, Smart should stay in Europe. People in the US drive bigger cars and its simple phisics, a 4000 pound car hitting a 2000 pound car, the big car will be jostled around violently but the smart will go flying. Smart hitting a 6000 pound SUV, forget it. I can't wait till these pathetic excuses for cars get removed from the US market.

  • @mgibbs88

please watch a crash-test of a Smart car.....it's not a plastic toy car.

Not only in the US there are idiots who drive huge cars with to much horsepower, here in Europe sadly enough there also a lot of idiots who drive cars bigger then their ass allow them to.

Sometimes i have to drive my boss his car, a Range Rover, it's ridiculous big.....it actually has a camera to make it easier to park.....it easely consumes at least 10 liter in 100 km.....

  • @mrfakecom I'm American and I agree with your post 100%. Most Americans don't understand necessity and will drive anything that's spoon fed to them via Hollywood or TV.

  • @mgibbs88 The death of the SUV is steadfast, the new Explorer will be on a sedan chassis, the new Tahoe/Yukon and Ranger will be on crossover chassis.

Simple physics eh? Since you're a physics professor I guess you know that every car is built exactly the same way with exactly the same safety features and that cars will crash at a perfect angle at a perfectly matched speed.

Using physics is an excuse, this is the real world, the smart performs well here.

  • @mgibbs88 Why doesn't the smart make sense here? Have you tried to park an Excursion on a crowded city street? Have you lived in a bustling city and had two choices of transport, one being full size suv and the other public?

    Apparently not.

The fortwo is a CITY CAR, meaning built for the city. Don't expect it to shine on the highway because it was built for the city...

  • fail test fail!

  • uses premium fuel... NOT

  • This is a pretty poor review. He is obviously biased against the car, not really pointing out and good points.

  • I totally want one of these cars I think their amazingly cute and enviormentally safe

    ^_^

  • Boy this nasty little bastard holds nothing back on his opinions, and that is what they are really. I will tell you he is so dead wrong it is not even funny. I think that the Smart is a perfect little car for in town driving and holds it's own very well. For one, it is a blast to drive around town, and even though the tranny is something to get used to, it will not take long to get accustomed to. You can drive it as a full manual if you like, and it is plenty safe. Stick with your Miata fool.

  • @dressshoeguy

It hold itself pretty well even on highway .

I drove a round trip to Calgary from Vancouver (Canada),approximately 2100 KM. It ideal sustain highway speed is 70 to 75 Miles per hours and speeding up to 90 for short period of time is a easy job though not recommend for long sustain drive.

  • In my case i love my little one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • People Cut you off even if your in a HUMMER.

The Smart Fortwo is a Drivers car. If you seriously hate driving then stay away from it because you'll hate it. For someone who claims to ride a motorcycle this guy doesn't seem to realize you gotta treat the Smart like driving a Motorcycle.

and much like a motorcycle you gotta get used to the transmission otherwise it will be shaky like its about to stall.

Oh well can't please everyone. I love my 2009 Smart Fortwo.

  • I have owned 2 Smart cars in Europe and purchasing another one in the US. I think that this review is pretty rubbish. The car is great for cities. The car is not great for long commuting or on highways. With that said, I have driving from Barcelona to Cannes in a Smart car and had zero problems.

  • @nerdgirl I agree this video just shows the negative and very few positive things about the Smart.

  • Comment removed

  • @nerdgirl His review of the Smart ForTwo was primarily for drivers in the USA. Experiences driving a small car in Europe are going to be different. In the USA, the smaller the car the less of a human being you are considered to be. The less valuable your life is considered to be. People in big vehicles will run you off the road if they can get away with it and think nothing of it. The danger is real. It sucks and it is wrong but it is true.

  • love this car

actually 2 weeks ago i bought my second fortwo and its lovely, the 2010 feels more secure at high speeds and its not hard to get and maintain 100 mph

as the car is so light it really brakes well so i really agree with the guy who said that this car is a car that you hate or really love

ahh and the gearbox is rubbish but intelligent people could easily get used to it, the same as the braking

  • heh he trashed it.

i laughed when he was talking about how no one respected him and rode his bumper and cut him off. frikken people.

  • What he talks about how hard to brake smoothly which is totally true. Good simple review

  • Obviously he's not a Smart salesman.

If he was i donot think Mercedes would sell any of the little wonders.

It's a car you either love or hate, this chap should stick to his Fiat where he obviously feels more at home.

  • I own 4 cars. My Smart is my favorite vehicle to drive. I literally neglect my other cars.

  • I rode in it, the ride quality is absoulutly the worst in the entire car market

  • I agree with you, though. everything about it is pretty much okay. but the CABIN NOISE IS JUST... BAD!

I had to wear my noise cancelers just to withstand everything.

  • The car changing gear is what made it bad in my opinion, you lurch foward

  • ha ha true

  • It's a great car, and the new one is an improvement over the old generation car... every car has it's positives and negatives, and that's something you have to keep in mind. Some people get it, some people don't - the ones who don't go off and buy other vehicles that suit their neds better. :)

  • He brings up a great point at the end. As someone with 245 000 km on his smart, every day I've owned it I've put up with impatient drivers who absolutely insist on cutting me off or tailgating. When I hold 135 km/h on the main highways here in Canada, I can beat all other traffic with ease, finding gaps to slip in and out of (you have no idea how much the BMW crowd hates this!), but then some idiot in a Caravan parked in the left lane doing 10 over the speed limit wrecks that.

  • I looked at the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, and the Smart ForTwo. My wife and I ended up on the Smart ForTwo decidedly that is was good handling, easy to drive and fun. I wanted something that didn't feel like I was punching the clock to go to work, even though this class of car has low pickup. It is fun, and the manual mode of the transmission is easy, like a lazy mans standard automatic. We enjoy the ride and have minimized our eco/economic footprint.

  • The pickup is not too bad, just don't pull out into highway traffic expecting a burst of speed. I still don't know about those headwinds and handling he's talking about and I live in the windy city. 0-60 is much like the Civic Hybrid.

Did you get the 2.0 tranny upgrade?

It makes it shift a bit faster and smoother.

  • just dont get in a crash because the crumple zone is your face. :)

  • I briefly considered this car last year. It has kind of a cool eco-vibe that gets you a little bit of cred here, but not much.

What it came down to was if I only had room for one car, do I want this? I know the company drove it coast to coast to demonstrate that it is a "real" car, but really, would you want to do that? Me either. For about the same money I bought a loaded Pontiac G5 that gets 6.5L/100km on the highway, nearly as good as the Smart, and it's a damn sight more comfy too.

  • And of course my comment gets deleted! I have an opinion and I say that this review sucked! Compare this one to the Yaris!

  • Comment removed

  • I agree! The yaris sucked!

  • my mom had a head on collision in her smart car on the highway 3 weeks ago and all she got was a bump on the head .

  • @manitobasuntanner Really? they really bad mouthed it badly in the crash tests...Thats cool that its safer then they give it credit for! I hope your mom is ok ^_^

  • I would like to have one of these to use on the golf course, but I don't think my clubs would fit. Looks like an obama motors vehicle.

  • As a construction worker, where the hell am I suppose to put all my tools, or what about when it snows?

  • As a construction worker, this isn't your car.

This car is aimed for minimalists, obviously. The kind of people who DON'T want to have much in their possession.

  • Great vid...

    ;-)

  • guy is really small that car is smaller in person i could def flip it

  • All of these small car, in general, have a grade of a C and D crash rating.

  • You have no idea what you are talking about.

"The 8-foot, 8-inch vehicle received the highest rating of good in front-end and side-impact testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, helping address some concerns that consumers may be more vulnerable in the tiny two-seater."

You should read before you open your mouth.

  • Crashing into walls doesn't prove anything. When a car is coming towards you at 80mph you're going to be in a hell of trouble. Imagine being in this car while someone is coming at you 80mph? The insurance institute for highway safety can suck my dick because they're wrong.

  • You never went to college did you? I can tell you didn't. You do not have to answer. Are you defending your empirical conclusions or your sense of personal identity as an American. lol. You entertain me with your weak sense of identity.

  • Did college teach you to believe everything you read? Is the car best in its class of size 1? What tests were performed? Does the Insurance Institute really care about your safety?

Do you understand physics? What happens when objects of differing mass strike each other? Does the less massive object experience greater acceleration than the greater? Can rapid accelleration cause your brain to impact your skull? Think first.

  • if you crash you're dead..

  • 14k for this piece of crap? what was mercedes thinking bringing this shit to North America?

  • u know whats funny my friend hit a guy in that car and he has brain damage its small and wont protect when it comes to the time it need to its small. go ahed think what u want but when it comes to that day dont blame anybody else cause u wanted to be in a small car

  • Shut up, Narutard.

  • lol ow, nice comback.

    lmao.

  • It's just cute. For the price of this car, you might as well get a Honda Fit.

  • Watch the Fit's crash test SnMagnifique, not so pretty

  • I have a 2009 Honda Fit and the crash test ratings are better than the Smart car. So yeah, it's better.

  • Whoops, I was thinking about the Yaris crash, OUCH!!

The Fit, on the other hand, is bigger with 4 door and more room so it's a IDK why they compared 2 door subcompacts with a 4 door subcompact. The Fit's test was quite impressive.

You're happy with a Fit and I am with a smart so we're both happy!

P.S. LOL when he said it scared the crap out of him.

  • Your a load of crap if you think that we are the cause of Global warming. earth has been in warming cycles for millions of years!

  • craigmc..... maybe.. just maybe... you should stop watching fox news and get educated..

  • The problem with this car... it does nothing for those with small dicks... they still need their large SUV and 4x4.. This review has to be paid by large american companies... it is not truthful.. Too bad the planet is dying because of people who need large vehicles to feel like men..

  • what about the women who drive these suvs? are you calling them cross-genderizers?

  • If i didn't know better i would bet this guy works for GM. I have seen alot of reviews on the smartcar and never heard anyone as down on it as this guy. If this car was so bad why does it sell well in Europe? I rather be in a roll cage that a smartcar has than a SUV which when rolled over the roof crushes down flat. New cars and SUV these days are made out of tin foil and most accidents they are totaled. No wonder there are so many airbags. There are many happy smartcars owners, decide4yourself

  • Lots of small cars like that in Japan. In Toyota there are parking spaces on the street that have power outlets to plug electric cars into to recharge.

I have a gasoline car but it is only 650cc :-)

The aggressive driver problem he talks about isn't a problem in Japan.

Can see some car and train stuff on Japan on out site.

    (Look under playlists.)

  • wow finally a realistic critical video that didn't kiss ass!

not to mention any guy caught dead in this car would be considered the biggest fucking vagina to walk the earth.

here's some food for thought design a eco-friendly car that doesn't make you look like a dork.

  • yeah, thats actually very fair lol

  • @drealm LMAO! I always thought women mostly drove 4X4's in America. Oh well, either way, the car isn't bad. Not good for rural areas, but great in the city. And it's great in the snow!

  • A mini mercedes benz!!

  • when i went to brazil i saw a mini mercedes it almost looked like the smart car only the hood was steep

  • I think forcedclothing com makes a turbo shirt for this car. lol

  • cool video

  • ok how long they been makin these? A couple years?? And this guys all this sucks, that sucks. I'm sure the Model T sucked at first too. And if everyone had one, wrecks would be like bumper cars.

  • That car is so small! I wonder that other cars don't run it off the road!

  • alter bin ich dumm ? wiso guck ich den son scheiß ?

  • yeah he "usually" doesn't think that way.

at least until all his friends are laughing their asses off at him.

  • Winds? Most smarts never need correction on the freeway in wind!

You can shift by yourself if you wanted!

That car was not tested on the expressway at all! Cars . com does not test on expressways!

It has about equal acceleration to the Yaris!

  • what the top speed

  • 90mph electronically limited.

Has been seen going 93 to 100.

Can't wait 'til August when I get my smart fortwo passion coupe.

It shifts better after it breaks in.

The brakes work better after break in.

It gets better than EPA MPG after break in.

apparently this guy has not been to

    w w w . safeandsmart . c o m

None of them have rolled over!

    Poor review, seriously...

  • damn i drive a 92 pimped out civic with 500hp on drives like a monster

  • To life!!!

  • way too expensive and you get better milage from larger cars, which come with more of everything...

  • 33 mpg? What's the point of it being small, then?

  • shit dude he said that in the video? he mislead you, the smart car's mpg is rated as 41 mpg

  • crap review ......

  • The car looks gay.the name is gay.(passion).If you drive it you may be gay.

  • gay is not an insult, the sooner you learn this the better. Now please remove yourself from the internet.

  • WAY too expensive, and premium gas?! You HAVE to be fucking kidding.

  • my sister Hyundai Sonata cost around 14k with standard features!! 170hp, ESC, TCS, ABS, etc.

How the hell can you drive with 70hp? really

  • we have a smart car and don't have ANY of these problems! It is a fantastic car, and I would recommend it to anyone!

  • pos cage

  • watch?v=P4eIfQFv8uI Michael Jackson funeral, finally found it... R.I.P. Mj :(

  • i see this driving around my town some times rare to me.

  • retard looking car. Ontop of that it couldnt be save to drive. if you want to die then go buy this.

  • Ya an SUV could crush it like a monster truck rally

  • Try it! This car works like a bullit. It destroys bigger cars easyly.

  • toy of the rich people....

  • is a nice little car but seems over priced and not really practical for todays roads and traffic chaos i had a mini cooper mk2 that went threw a big pot hole which shook the left wing off had to sellotape it back on heh but yeah could see this car rolling over in the same circumstances

  • My first car was Smart. I got it when I was 16 years old, back in 2002. I loved that car so much.

  • So the only good thing in that car is the headroom?

  • lol

  • Search this...

    "PJ Mexico Harmony"

  • 17k for that?

  • oh yeah the summer is here, i love the summer i dont like the weather but i like the fact that you can go out more and feel really happy .idont know what it is but i always feel very positive in the summer.hooray for summer..

  • COMMENT PART 3: i've had a few situations where people put me (and themselves) in danger because of their opinions. i drove a honda accord before the smart.. which i loved, and i do not have a single regret about getting the smart. it's a fantastic car... and i always get 38-41 mpg.

  • one dumb asshole cuts off another dumb asshole

    and no one else cares

  • COMMENT PART 2: it is very different from most cars, so you have to LEARN how to make it do what you want it to do. i've never had an issue accelerating on on-ramps or merging in traffic with other cars.. i've also never had a problem or complaint about the braking "issues" he talks about. the ONLY downside and the ONLY time i've ever felt unsafe in the car is in situations where people on the road make assumptions about the car and take those assumptions out on people driving the smart car.

  • COMMENT PART 1: i've been driving a smart car for the last 7 months. i drive it at least 90 miles per day (to and from work) on the highway. granted, what he states about the cross winds is true and very noticeable when you first start driving the car.. but the longer you drive it, the less you notice it and you stop feeling like you have to overcorrect so much. the transmission and acceleration he talks about is pretty ridiculous...

  • Why 33/41? I think a Civic or similar get better mileage.

  • I have a silver 2008 Toyota Yaris hatchbk...I love it...get like 450mi per tankful....drives nice...smooth.

  • I'm sorry, but the Yaris and the Fit are much better. This car is shit!!! It is DUMB!!! Not SMART!!! HAHAHAHAHA

  • Why did the first car of this kind (in the usa) have to be such a crappy one? It sounds like everything about it is bad.

  • Very small... Very small... BUT I bet it would be great to hot box that thing!

  • why dont little people drive these? :O no seriously! that would be like perfect for them! im not trying to be mean, i just think it would be safer or something

  • what bothers me more than the size is the transmission in this car ..if its bad when u buy the car new how long before you need repairs ? how bad of a used car will it be? i know they wanted to reach more people by having an auto or close to it but this was a bad idea...better start using automatics.orig was a swatch /mercedes project by the way.

  • shitty buy. for a little more get a FULL car with basically the same MPG. Honda Fit or a Toyota Yaris.

  • this car wont be so good if your in a 4 season state its a waste of money thats for me

  • Do they supply a mask so people you know won't recognize you ?

  • for that price Id get a Toyota Corolla sport or something on those lines..................

  • I'd buy one of these if a diesel engine and manual transmission were offered in the States. It's unfortunate that they chose to offer such a terrible drivetrain as the only choice for the US market.

  • Vampires are ALIVE in ROMANIA !!!!!

    watch?v=NrOOIp-K9W8

    Scary SHIT !!!!

  • not a smart buy

  • One good thing is that in an accident the car can be used as a coffin, saving a tree, enviro mental.

  • I could forgive those shortcomings if this thing got over 60mpg but I can find allot better cars that get same MPG as the smart car. I expected better MPG from this tiny vehicle.

  • Now this is the kind of car that I'd expect to see delivered in that youtube video series I watched called A DRIVING FOOL.

  • well i can see the problem; it's small car and an american ego wouldn't fit inside :-p

  • You can drive whatever car you can afford.

And guess what? For a lot of you? This is it.

  • You can't even get laid in that thing, hell!! you can't even get a decent blowjob in that tiny car.

  • it should scare the crap out of you - you wreck you die -

economy cars = death in a can

  • Im sure people will boycott these cars when they will be forced to us.

  • And GM will be forced to make similar cars like this POS.

  • Look at that a coffin for two.

I have a small SUV and this car fits under my wheel.

  • who gives a shit if you like it, or not. You will get one, or get thrown in federal prison for violating Obama's new presidential order to the masses. Also, from now on, you must all change your underwear 3 times a day - and you must wear them on the outside of your clothes so the underwear-changing CZAR can check.

  • This is not a car, this is dirt from the anus. Well, one exception.. addition of a hyabussa engine =).

Smart For Two my arse - Dumb for 1.

  • The problem with this car isn't that it's too dangerous (think motorcycle or ATV), it's that it's WAY too expensive and the gas cost is WAY too high (premium only and 33MPG). If people could think of this as an upgrade to their golf cart just for errands, it would make sense. But the price would need to be halved and the MPG doubled - or electric.

  • But you can get more miles buying one because you will do more public transportation and bicycling just to not use this very bad car. I see no goals: Not enough economy in gas, not safety, not looks, not practical for use. Not smart choice.

  • Uhhh... WORST CAR EVA
