Just read a fascinating biography about Nat and reading about how he compensated for broken keys & out of tune pianos led to his uniquely special piano playing just makes me appreciate this genius even more. #He'sTheGreatest
Was there, or will there ever be, anyone as smooth? The sync at :38...the mini-glisses at 1:13..stupid crazy. The end is classic. The Piano Order: Tatum, Powell, Monk, Peterson, Hines, Cole.
@jayjacksonjazz Recovering from knee surg so I'm stuck home. You Tube's keeping me company. Just left a snarky critique at a Bobby Short video. Cole shows here that he set a standard way to high for the likes of BS and so many others. Nat was one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time and his singing was pure heaven.Your order of pianistic greatness is quite good. Nat King Cole had it all, except long life. RIP Mr.Cole. Nice comment jay!
Haha he has too much fun! He quoted everything from Foggy Day (at the very begining) to one of the themes in Rhapsody In Blue. AND he showcased his stellar slides. Genius
I listen to this almost every time I go on YouTube, and it's one of those songs that I don't think I'll ever get bored of. Just sounds so daaamn good! :)
Wow...I love this. I wish I had the chance to see Mr. Cole in person.
He also played the first "Jazz At The Philharmonic" concert in Los Angeles
(July 2, 1944) with an all-star band and takes a KILLER solo on Tea For Two. That recording is pretty available and I think a must for all Nat Cole piano fans.
I really wish Nat King Cole (and other great artists) would have taken care of his body. And not inhale the devil's poison or drink his wine. So he could have lived longer than 45 years and made more great music.
@Stefan990 while youre at it, you left out that he shouldnt have worn the devils clothing or played the devils instrument. he should been out there in his african drums wearing tribal clothes, believing in true african religion not that white mans religion they enslaved upon us!! now you see how crazy i sounded? thats how you sound
I think, Elvis Pressly hear this muisic on toilett... this music is absolut very goodd

So smooth! Casually drops in some really cool quotes too - Gershwin's 'A Foggy Day' at 0:20 to 0:28 and 'Rhapsody in Blue' at 1:22 to 1:30!

Nathaniel Adams Coles (better known as Nat King Cole) had a great feel for music. All his arrangements were great.

I love the way Nat King Cole gets up at the end of the song and is still playing. It's just too easy for him.

When I say "the devil's poison" I mean weed, cigarretes and other things he smoked. Smoking destroyed his lungs.
Stefan990 6 months ago
@Stefan990 he smoked cigs because he thought it gave him a deep singing voice
