the cricut cake and the expression are both about the same price, and yes...very similar. there is a video on youtube that shows how you can cut gum paste with a cricut expression. the difference is that the cake has coating in key parts of the machine to keep things from getting dirty and ruining your machine and also to keep the gum paste safe to eat. i also think the blade is different. i wouldn't recommend using the expression for both crafting and for decorating cakes. not safe!
The Cricut cake machine is a FAKE!!! Go to the youtube video CRICUT CAKE IS A FAKE and you will see the Expression and the Cake side by side. They are the same machine inside and out, just a few minor differences. Provo Craft tells you that you can't use the Expression for gum paste, that the only machine "safe" to use is the Cricut Cake. Looks like a lot of false advertising going on.
I see that Linda McClure is part of this promotional video, but is not mentioned any where on the Provo Craft web site. She was the one who started all of this, using a cricut to cut gum paste.
I bought this but it does not work is my machine bad? It actually cuts the design into the mat! Do I have to use their gum past sheets for it to work and I have tried it all!! Freezing it, all the pressure and speed combos no luck.. just makes a huge mess help!
