Grab a really thin piece of sheet metal, and drill 100 small 1/8" holes in it, paint it whatever color you would like, don't look like a weirdo buying nylons for your "wife or girlfriend" and you have a filter that is washable, cheaper, and less time consuming.
my friend is making a mixtape and is really close to finishing it. all he needs to do now is lay down lyric tracks, but he needed a pop filter. thanks for the help MarcM001
@AyceProdukiez possibly because they cost a bit for what they are and also a majority of people arnt as lazy as you and want to learn how to make one from scratch? ...it could happen you know.
Too long?! My mom broke her clavical recently, maybe someone in that situation or worse would take a while to do this.... but otherwise, get off your ass. It should take no more than ten minutes AT MOST.
I don't have a link. I went to Home Depot for the heavy guage electrical wire, hose clamp, split tubing, and thick zip ties, Wal Mart for the panty hose, and Michaels (Craft store) for the embroidery hoop (2 of them were about $3 for the 4. inch) So in all, I spent just under $14 for the supplies and made 2 of them. Spray painted the wire (it was orange) black as well as the hoop and it's all very sleek and you'd never even know it was home-made. It's badass!!!!
Wow. Nothing especially new from some I've seen before...but a lot more practical and well made. And you didn't come off sounding like a tool (not to name any other video in particular).
it filters out the 'pops' you might get from a voice recording from saying/singing words such as "but" or "police" for example. It gets a loud pop that sounds unprofessional.
It blocks out pops of air from going into the microphone when you sing/talk. It sounds really bad and the filter blocks the wind causing the pops. Look it up on wikipedia for more info
zOMG thanx so much man i saw a pop filter in guitar center for $40 and i flinched but i didnt get it so i thought i lok up on youtube and BAM i found you now i have the same looking pop filter from guitar center for $8 with tax so again THANK YOU
I missed the part where you mentioned fastening the hose clamp around the mic stand and the electrician wire. (I know, its a no brainer.) Thanks for the awesome video! I seen another video just like it on another site, but yours actually showed you a good glimpse of the items and where to get them. I think I might make me one of those now...
A further note about the mics I listed for podcasting/voice-overs, etc.—that I didn't have room to mention b/f—is that all of them do already have 'pop-filters' built in, situated behind the mic's mesh screening that surrounds the capsule.
But having an external pop filter IS STILL usually recommended in order to ensure the elimination of any/all 'pops' &/or 'plosives.'
Anyone can feel free to email me if you have questions re: 'ideal' gear, best suited to meet your goals & budget.
very cool idea & design. Though I'm assuming you are using the SM57 on the desktop mic stand for illustrative purposes only. As it's not too flattering on most vocals. It's voiced more for handling high SPL sources like snare drums, guitar cabinets, etc. Not that I haven't tried it on client's vocals! Trent Reznor occasionally uses a 57 on his voice, but again, more 4 effect.
4 Podcasting, I recommend an ElectroVoice RE-20 or Shure SM7. Also RØDE's USB mic designed 4 podcast creation.
Great idea. This worked out well. Unfortunately I nicked my girlfriend a bunch of times with the scissors when cutting the pantyhose. I should have probably informed her that she was my girlfriend first, to calm her down.
Yes, the mic is a Sure SM57. It's my guitar amp mic. It also sounds great for voice over work but you need to be close for the best sound. I make bad plosives so I made the pop filter. And you CAN buy a pop filter for as low as $20 bucks but they go way up from there. Plus if you have a few people talking on mics at the same time say during a podcast for instance then making them yourself really becomes a lot cheaper than buying them.
Great project... I just bought one from the store, and these things are so f****** expensive and don't hold very well. My nexy one is going to be home-made like that one :P
SM57 works great for spoken vocals... That's the microphone the president of usa uses for his speeches (with the windshields balls on them) :)
thats pretty cool .but wouldnt it be easier to just buy one...? lol they aren't far off how much you paid buying that stuff. thats quite alot of tricky shit if you get a wrong part or somthing. but cooool and d.i.y. anyway lol did u use a sm57 for ur audio on this btw? sounds really good! =)

$14-16 online for one, OR you could make 2 for under $14...I mean if it's the same exact thing why not just make it yourself?

It's to stop those annoying sounds that the mic. picks up from breathing or other noises. Trust me it works! =D
