22 percent growth. That is really bad news. But I'm not sure I trust the figures. Every time I have a look in one of their places it looks awfully empty.
Seems reasonable enough to me! I dispute the numbers though. I'd be willing to bet there's less than 40,000 'serious' practising Scientologists around today.
If they weren't such a secretive criminal cult then maybe the numbers would be easier to ascertain :)
I would like to think the numbers are that low. I just don't know how to reconcile that with the amount of money they have, and the number of orgs that are open around the world. Is that sustainable with so few people?
At my local book store they were selling L. Ron Hubbard books from his early carrier. I think they were the pulps from before he focused on science fiction.
Wonder if the employee was a Scientology plant, the owner/franchisee/management is a/are Scientologist(s), or if a Scilon walked in and fed them some bullshit. Then again, it may very well be printed right on the dust jacket somewhere.
I think capnoawesome made a video a while back showing how the rate of people proclaiming the position of atheist in the US is climbing faster than any religion.
Under the latest theories of cosmology, including M-theory, the theory of multiple universes, and theories of quantum gravity, our entire observed universe could indeed be the result or some sort of "atom smashing" experiment by an intelligent entity in a parallel universe, or "mega" universe.
Thus, assuming the definition of "God" is defined broadly to include any thinking entity that created our universe but is not necessarily involved in our day to day activities, the "belief" in the lack of any such God is a matter of conjecture, and thus a matter of "faith" just like any religion.
Opps meant to thumbs up you, but one downed you, two people plz one up him for me to correct the error. Thanks!
Yea, the important point is we are on our own and have to survive without expecting help from above. If anything ever comes from above, it will be there to kill us.
I love the stats that secularism / atheism is up from 13M to 26M. Go American Atheists! You make us feel that US is no only religious nut-jobs.

Ok. I thought maybe the L.A. mothership sent out funds to keep underperforming orgs open.
So it's really a classic pyramid scheme. Nice.

Using those figures, and looking at the numerical increases, rather than the percentages, "secular/ non-religious" is easily the fastest growing.

Counting atheists as a religion really doesn't make a lot of sense... Atheism isn't really a religion, and I say this as one of its "adherents."

And this is why I do not waste my time in these rhetorical games. The trap is in the two-valued logics.
A god? No god? I don't care! ;)
