  • America didn't loot it you assholes, that's what happens when a nation doesn't have a police force.

  • What a homo liar marine at 8:50 !!

Is that the best they have to say for themselves !

  • @Scorpio111111 thats america for you...sigh

  • This war represtents a failure to understand history and culture.

  • And we're supposed to feel good that that the guys who wrecked everything are, " going to fix it all up," with a bare minimum of resources.

Stop the spin already, I'm getting sick.

  • Why are all military, in fact, why are all Americans lumped together in this? The loss of the pieces in the museum was horrible, but why attack the only people trying to recover the artifacts? What are you doing to remedy the situation?

  • Irresponsible exaggeration..... hmm.... the point is, its art, culture, and an entire people's heritage... lost....Forever....

  • Someone bought the pieces. They are not lost entirely.

  • How can we not protected a valuable place! However we do protect the oil first.lol.

  • Impeach Bush is only the first step. He and all is fellow conspirators shall be tried and hung until dead on the Washington mall

  • These people are sheep and always will be. They have no respect for there country or its people. They will always have to have someone hearding them.

  • This stupid fuck Bagdonas asks, "would you like your 19 year old to come and have to fight here?"

No asshole! That's why you don't wage war if you don't need to. What an ignorant fuck! That's why he's in the army. Too stupid to make it in the private sector. That's why these assholes are so sanctimonious ...they're too stupid to understand their true roles.

  • Actually, Matthew BOGDANOS is in the Marine corps, not the Army. He was called back into the Marines after a long and successful career as a District Attorney and receiving a Bachelors in Classical antiquities.

But you clearly are much more qualified than he is. You must have what, a Masters or a PhD in Political Science in order to be so confident in your judgement of him, right?

  • Kudos! You know all about Bogdanos so why can't you understand the big picture? You know, the whole context of the conversation?

Or are you one those types still looking for WMD's in your fruitloops?

  • What big picture am I not seeing? The museum was looted. This was an unspeakable act against the world's cultural history. But I fail to see how calling the one man leading the investigation to recover Iraq's history is productive.

Or are you one of those types looking for an atrocity behind every military action?

  • Atrocity is happening right now in Iraq to may innocent people. The US managed to capture Saddham Hussein and punish him for his crimes which was considered impossible in the early 90's. Was there a looting like this before the war began?

This war represents a failure to understand culture and history which I'm pretty damn sure the Iraq people know theirs very well.

  • It is true that many innocent people have lost their lives in a war that was launched on false pretexts. But Hussein killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, not to mention Iranians and Kuwaitis during the wars he started under false pretexts. A recent study concluded that 1 out of every 2 families in southern Iraq had a member who was murdered, tortured, or simply vanished under Saddam's watch. True, there was certainly less looting, but mainly because the punishment was public beheading.

  • Wars come and go but survivors remain and Saddham got what he deserved. Now America has access to the worlds richest supply of oil and never could have under Saddhams rule.

  • Like why the place was destroyed in the first place.

You show absolutely no remorse nor take any responsibility for the warmongering and massive destruction done on your behalf, in the name of your country but you conveniently leave out that crucial element.

How could you fail to address that very important point of origin, since as you know, that's the genesis of this terrible destruction?

  • The Republican Guard occupied the museum compound and used it as a fortress from which they launched assaults against US forces. Using a cultural site for such a purpose is illegal under the the Geneva conventions, and the military could have been justified in destroying the museum. They instead chose to withdraw from that area of Baghdad, leaving the museum intact. There is even some evidence to suggest that the Iraqi soldiers left the doors open when they left, granting the looters access.

  • bull shit your comment Mr The great sparky

  • Thank you for your thoughts, and your considerate, up-to-date contribution to a 9 month old discussion.

  • you know nothing about iraq

  • I know about Archaeology.

    What do you know about?

  • I do not agree with the reasons given for invading Iraq. If I had the power to go back and change things, I would.

However, the war happened, and that cannot change. Is the U.S. Military to blame for the looting? Partly. But so is the Iraqi military, the museum staff, and most importantly, the looters. But you conveniently leave that out. Bogdanos and his team are currently doing the most humanly possible to recover the artifacts which are being smuggled out of Iraq to fund the insurgency.

  • Also, how do you get off telling me that that war was waged on MY behalf? How can you tell me that I show no remorse for an action that I was not responsible for, and did not condone? What country do you live in that you can say different than I?

Was the U.S. justified to go into Iraq? Probably not. But are the Iraqi people better of without Saddam? Very likely.

And you seem to forget that the museum was looted by Iraqis. And under most of Saddam's regime, the museum was closed to the public.

  • Methinks the thou dost protest too much.

Are you American? Then the war was waged on your behalf.

Whether or not people in a sovereign nation which the US illegally and unjustly invaded is not for you to decide. That's for the people who actually live there.

You seem to fail to understand or refuse to acknowledge, the US actions in Iraq were criminal and misguided. The US enabled the the sacking of the museum. Why is that so difficult for you understand or acknowledge? That's the issue.

  • I am an American, but why should I take responsibility for something that I opposed? And you seem to forget that it was not just the United States, but the United Kingdom, Australia , as well as 19 other nations, who assisted in the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Should citizens of those countries also feel responsible about their nation's actions?

I am not defending the motives of the war, I am only defending those who are trying to heal Iraq.

What would you suggest that the US do?

  • Stop playing games. What's so difficult to understand?

Do you really buy that alliance crap? Do you have any idea of how many troops each of those countries actually provided and how many of these troops that are still there?

It's obvious you don't or wouldn't repeat the same old white house talking points.

Defending those trying to heal Iraq? You couldn't more sanctimonious.

You're going to have open your eyes a little wider. America is better than this....or at least it once was.

  • Again, I do not claim to support the reasons why the United States went to war with Iraq, and I will not make any attempt to defend why troops are there. Where you get the idea that I am acting with blind faith is beyond me. You got most of the facts wrong, then you ask me why I don't see things from your point of view. I believe you have just defined "sanctimonious".

I will ask you again; since the US military IS occupying Iraq, what do you suggest that they do now?

  • America is responsible for this crime against humanity. The military says they processing the area as a crime scene....what a fucking joke!

Are they going to arrest the White House for the fuckers who started a war to steal oil?

Fuck you and you fake explanations! This is why America sucks. Impeach Bush!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why would the Iraqi's want to steal their own history and destroy artifacts made by their ancestors? Whats the point of stealing an artifact when its pretty clear you cant showcase it? Whoever stole these historic pieces should just return it back

  • Well over half of the pieces looted from the museum, including the Vase of Warka, have been returned. The problem is tracking down the pieces that have been sold to overseas collectors to fund the insurgency.

  • ...this place was NOT looted by IRAQIS!

and there's not that you can do about it.

Look: eyewitness tell that some interpreters was ordered from US soldiers to move the people in caos and desorder near the museum... For to loot in the offices, in the ministry, in the shop, in the flet and they was fear...

After some organized team entry in to the museum, but they know what to loot...

and some copy of some important peaces they leave there...

  • The Iraq museum is located directly across the street from an Iraqi Republican Guard headquarters. During the invasion of Baghdad, there were between 100 to 150 Republican Guard occupying the museum. Eyewitness accounts describe an angry mob looting the museum after they left. And hundreds of IRAQI civilians returned stolen artifacts afterwards.

How on Earth could the US have pulled that off?

  • I know where you can find the Gold looted from Iraq; it's located in Crawford, Texas or somewhere inside McLennan County Line.

  • again america has the finger pointed at it ! this place was looted by IRAQIS! for fuck sake! not america! Do they seriously think that the coalition has a magic wand that with one wave everthing will be fine. if the forces of good leave you will have fuck all left! dont belive me ? go to afghanistan and see what happened there! (bahmian)

  • John I've done alot of study into this. Read the book 9/11 by Jim Marrs. You will see from many formal sources that America organised a specially trained task force to loot the museums of Iraq. They were looking for specific items. This is what the war is all about. Try to see the truth and forget your patriotism.

  • i do have an open mind belive me, i am a brit, so its not US patriotism at work here! i saw first hand what anarchy done to afghanistan and its treasures. I will find the book and read it. Have a good day. J
