Using manda was strategic, especially since its a guy with a sword against someone w. loads of explosives. You call sasuke the coward while Deidara hides from the initial conflict and mainly relies on his clay bombs, Not to insult his style, but it is more 'cowardly' then fighting an explosive army with but a sword.
