There is no DEFINITON for music anyway.
Music is what it is to the individual listener/performer.
It is the only thing in the human language you can not put a definition on.
There needs to be 2 words for music.
One word for technical music which only nescacarily needs rythym, melody or harmony (hip-hop, ect) and one word for real MUSIC (emotion, feeling, meaning, ect.)

You can't just strum your guitar and call yourself a guitarist, can you? You can't just bang random drums and call yourself a drummer, right? Same thing with vocals.
Vocals are singing. Hell, look up definition of vocalist if you want...it simply says "a singer".

Vocals are supposed to have melody, harmony, and some rhythm. Rapping only has rhythm.
I have also looked up the definition of music AGAIN. It says music needs melody, harmony, AND rhythm. In fact, most of the definitions I've read involve harmony...sweet.

Rap has only rhythm. There's absolutely NO goddamn melody or harmony in the crappy turntable, nor is it in the rapping itself. You can add violins and everything, but then it isn't true rap anymore. It's a fusion genre, like rap-metal, rap-rock, etc.
Rock will always have singing. Singing has lots of melody, harmony, and rhythm(although I will admit not as much as rapping)

rock has better instrumentation and more virtuosos. rap has none. rock involves a vider range of vocal techniques from growls to operatic wails(like Matt Bellamy). rock also has alot more impact on music and the real world. rock also covers a wider range of topics and styles. rock also can blend in with other styles(jazz-rock fusion,neo-classical metal) and involves alot more musical understanding and composition or improvisation skills. my choice is obvious.....
