Arthur is meant to be used to throw projectiles. That's his mainline strategy. Most other characters have a plethora of moves, specials, and strategies. Spamming Arthur is exactly what you're supposed to do. You say you're not a hater but don't even understand how this games work.

Wow, no wonder so many of you couldn't play MvC2. Keepaway/trap style play is much more difficult to do because you constantly have to account for where people are. Especially in THIS game where you get meter for blocking, the combos are EASY for most of the characters, a lot of the cast have teleports or moves very similar and the damage is super high. While I do agree that keep away is a legit tactic... I think what most of the bitching really involves is that Spartan used ONLY the daggers for most of the match. He'd occasionally throw a fire bottle, or a scythe, or something. Arthur has waaay more than that. That definitely wasn't the best Arthur could be. At least, that's how I see it.

How is this entertaining or fun? There was hardly any combo play here. Sure, playing keep away by spamming projectiles may win the match but it is straight up pussy shit if you ask me, especially from two 'good' players.

@Biolizard28 Something I hate in this game is how most characters~well most of my characters, don't have a viable two-hit move (normal or special) that can be used as "armor breaker." Playing against Hulk & Sentinental can get quickly frustrating because most two-hit moves (f+M) like the 1 from Ryu & Akuma have little to no range. Deadpool has a cool one (f+M).
If anyone has a viable tactic against armored normals from the heavy characters, please let me know. I need help, I'm still learning.
@Anfmethodjor Against Sentinel, a generally good idea is to jump over and punish his c.B. Sentinel gets a lot less scary if you approach him (smartly) from the air. For Hulk, I believe his s.C (and S) are both punishable on block. Basically, you just have to attack a little less and pick your spots carefully. Instant overheads own Sentinel, though.
@Biolizard28 Well, it's more that keep away takes little to no skill to do, and you still have to put up so much work just to get around it. Valid tactic yes, but I honestly do believe it's also pretty cowardly. It takes the fun out of the game, and is just more annoying than anything to deal with.
@Baikou ...., really....., in MvC3 keep away is a tactic that is incredably hard to play. In a game where almost all characters can do 1/2 to full kill just by touching you zoning is just bad. Sure you may get some chip damage in here or there, and oh don't forget a random zoning tool into super, but as long as you opponent keeps a level head they should be fine.
@amn1088 Zoning hard? Whatever! It doesn't take much to sit back and shoot your opponent based on where they are on the screen. Some zoning tactics are very easy to do while being almost impossible to get by. And chip damage is retardedly high in this game, so that makes it even worse. It takes WAY more skill to fight someone close range, especially at high speeds. More hand to eye coordination, more reaction time, and more hit confirming skills. You need none of that while zoning.
@Baikou Ever think that chip damage is high because you know combos seem to deal half to full life? If you suck at this game zoning is hard to deal with, there are some zoning strings that can last quite a few seconds, but after that generally leave big holes for you to apouch. I love how you brought up hand eye coordination, reaction time, and hit confirming. This game doesn't require much of any of that compared to older games. I remember a good hit confirm in SF3 would be one MK.
@amn1088 If holes are left open in a zoning tactic, that just means it's not a good zoning tactic. I've seen plenty of zoning tactics that have little to no holes in them. It's hard enough for chars without a double jump to get by Magneto's Disruptor spam. Holes are filled up with proper alternating assists. And not every char in the game can get by zoning that easily. Look at Hulk and Haggar. They have little to no tools to get inside zoning tactics.
Excellent Arthur play by Spartan, sure he played the keepaway game, but you people tend to forget...Tournaments aren't a damn beauty contest. Mike Ross didn't cry spam and whine and whatnot after the 1st game, he figured how to counter it and beat Spartan.

Wow, this video goes to show there is a way around EVERYTHING. Rd1 he couldn't touch him but the subsequent rounds you can see he learned and adapted.
First up, that Mike could not get in at all in Rd1! That was keep away perfection!
But second, that Mike learned from that Rd and came back strong to take the match!
That's the thing about fighting games - you shouldn't complain that someone is repeating a move - that's how they're fighting - you need to come up with a way around it! And that's what mike did! Awesome.

Thats why I created a team thats supposed to go around everything (or at least the biggest part of all zoning tactics). Hsien Ko + Viper (or x-23 but I dont like her) + Amaterasu (for meter, could be replaced by Morrigan). Activate gold armor->get in while using amaterasu assist for meter (against zoners) or use Viper assist to hit low while attacking high. Im not even good at this game but this is a very solid rushdown strat.

I know Spartan strategy was very effective and almost shut down Mike Ross, but man that is just incredibly lame to watch. I doubt it will be as effective in the coming months once people get used to Arthurs, Modoks, and such. Spartan seemed to not have much other than his zoning in these matches, as good as the zoning was.

While I do agree that keep away is a legit tactic... I think what most of the bitching really involves is that Spartan used ONLY the daggers for most of the match. He'd occasionally throw a fire bottle, or a scythe, or something. Arthur has waaay more than that. That definitely wasn't the best Arthur could be. At least, that's how I see it.

How is this entertaining or fun? There was hardly any combo play here. Sure, playing keep away by spamming projectiles may win the match but it is straight up pussy shit if you ask me, especially from two 'good' players.

I like matches to actually last a while. Just listen to the commentary and you will realize there was a lot of skill behind the decisions made in these matches.

@Biolizard28 Something I hate in this game is how most characters~well most of my characters, don't have a viable two-hit move (normal or special) that can be used as "armor breaker." Playing against Hulk & Sentinental can get quickly frustrating because most two-hit moves (f+M) like the 1 from Ryu & Akuma have little to no range. Deadpool has a cool one (f+M).
If anyone has a viable tactic against armored normals from the heavy characters, please let me know. I need help, I'm still learning.

@Anfmethodjor Against Sentinel, a generally good idea is to jump over and punish his c.B. Sentinel gets a lot less scary if you approach him (smartly) from the air. For Hulk, I believe his s.C (and S) are both punishable on block. Basically, you just have to attack a little less and pick your spots carefully. Instant overheads own Sentinel, though.

@Biolizard28 Well, it's more that keep away takes little to no skill to do, and you still have to put up so much work just to get around it. Valid tactic yes, but I honestly do believe it's also pretty cowardly. It takes the fun out of the game, and is just more annoying than anything to deal with.

@Baikou ...., really....., in MvC3 keep away is a tactic that is incredably hard to play. In a game where almost all characters can do 1/2 to full kill just by touching you zoning is just bad. Sure you may get some chip damage in here or there, and oh don't forget a random zoning tool into super, but as long as you opponent keeps a level head they should be fine.

@amn1088 Zoning hard? Whatever! It doesn't take much to sit back and shoot your opponent based on where they are on the screen. Some zoning tactics are very easy to do while being almost impossible to get by. And chip damage is retardedly high in this game, so that makes it even worse. It takes WAY more skill to fight someone close range, especially at high speeds. More hand to eye coordination, more reaction time, and more hit confirming skills. You need none of that while zoning.

@Baikou Ever think that chip damage is high because you know combos seem to deal half to full life? If you suck at this game zoning is hard to deal with, there are some zoning strings that can last quite a few seconds, but after that generally leave big holes for you to apouch. I love how you brought up hand eye coordination, reaction time, and hit confirming. This game doesn't require much of any of that compared to older games. I remember a good hit confirm in SF3 would be one MK.

@amn1088 If holes are left open in a zoning tactic, that just means it's not a good zoning tactic. I've seen plenty of zoning tactics that have little to no holes in them. It's hard enough for chars without a double jump to get by Magneto's Disruptor spam. Holes are filled up with proper alternating assists. And not every char in the game can get by zoning that easily. Look at Hulk and Haggar. They have little to no tools to get inside zoning tactics.

This was really impressive!
First up, that Mike could not get in at all in Rd1! That was keep away perfection!
But second, that Mike learned from that Rd and came back strong to take the match!
That's the thing about fighting games - you shouldn't complain that someone is repeating a move - that's how they're fighting - you need to come up with a way around it! And that's what mike did! Awesome.

Thats why I created a team thats supposed to go around everything (or at least the biggest part of all zoning tactics). Hsien Ko + Viper (or x-23 but I dont like her) + Amaterasu (for meter, could be replaced by Morrigan). Activate gold armor->get in while using amaterasu assist for meter (against zoners) or use Viper assist to hit low while attacking high. Im not even good at this game but this is a very solid rushdown strat.

I know Spartan strategy was very effective and almost shut down Mike Ross, but man that is just incredibly lame to watch. I doubt it will be as effective in the coming months once people get used to Arthurs, Modoks, and such. Spartan seemed to not have much other than his zoning in these matches, as good as the zoning was.
