  • 12 people didn't get an AVATAR bodies

  • 3:09 LOL yeah Cameron kinder fell off the radar screen for 12 years WTF! The resurfaced. Guess he was doing those small IMAX projects Ghosts of the Abyss

  • It was very hard, and took a while.. but i eventually DID masturbate to this.

  • Brilliant man, but Titanic is being retrofitted to 3D so Cameron, tsk tsk.

  • @themainideais Yes, but he's saying that 3D conversion is usually very rushed, whereas he's really taking his time with Titanic's conversion.

  • @jarred160788 Maybe the retrofitting technology is getting better as well?

  • @themainideais yeah and this video was 2 years ago what gives. I'm not as keen on seeing Titanic again I seen at for 6-track Dolby Stereo SR-D at least 12 times and projected it once at Warner village in the late 98 so I prefer 2D and I wish 3D just dies and goes like a bad cinema dream because its kept me away from going to the cinema for 3 years now and its pissing me off enough of the 3D junk!

  • Titanic and Terminator 2 were Camerons greats. Avatar.... not so much.

  • @Sumoto999 fk off?? avatar was one of the best movie ever

  • I didn;t see dances with wolves, so the similarities didnt catch me off guard. I didnt like avatar for three other reasons. One is because the villans have no character development, their just there to die and be a-holes. Two, it stole the name of the greatest cartoon in history. And third and most importantly, the entire film struck me more as political propaganda.

  • @Dzubur93 looking back in retrospect..i wish Cameron, really did clean up the story and script a bit. I mean, it had Fantastic VFX, and possibly the best 3D (That being said, i still hate it as a format)...but such a lackluster, cut n' paste story.

  • has anyone seen dances with wolves? it's the film avatar ripped off

  • @lenrat117 No because that movie sucked. Jk it was a pretty good movie but just because it has similar plot elements don't mean shit. People borrow shit all the time. It only matters if they make it original enough in other areas for people to watch and enjoy which avatar clearly did.

  • @yeadude657

    It clearly didn't.

It's archetypal source is barely veiled beneath it's futuristic setting.

It's not even a restructured archetype. Worst of all, it's yet ANOTHER hackneyed "battle climax" film, that gets even worse when it's peak moment is a deus ex machina. Seriously, how in the fuck can you spend that much money on a cliche`? Shockingly overrated film.

  • @KadrickNinness god, my thoughts exactly.

  • James Cameron biggest hypocrite ever. Why don't you care about canadians natives? Why dont you protest against canadian's polution? Why do you have to interfere in brazilian's matters? Go take care of canadian's florests and stop to say bullshit about brazilian's ones.

  • I couldn't help noticing the room he's in -- I believe that's his office and I can see the steering wheel from Titanic and the hand from the Terminator. Super cool.

  • Cameron's contribution to mainstream cinema is fairly substantial, but surely people watching this interview smile when he says that he doesn't want to "make the same thing twice."

  • @markusass Yeah. Terminator 2 was nothing like Terminator 1.

  • Such a good director. It really comes out in this interview how smart this man is.

He has only made classics all around

  • I friggin' loved Avatar.I don't care about what all of these haters have to say, it blew me away when I saw it in theaters for the first time. Hell, since then I've seen it at least 7 times.

  • @Hoppus217 hit it on the head.

  • @Hoppus217 If you think Avatar sucked, what's an example of a movie which doesn't suck? In your opinion, which movie has a thick plot with well-built characters?

  • @rafaelguti86 how about any scorsese movie or cameron movies before 2000.

  • @lfaldrummer12 Agreed. I still liked Avatar, tho.

  • Can I have that T800 arm over there?

  • james cameron is a bitch

  • I can make a movie WITH LESS ! MONEY and previews ! Sry for beating the guy who was born with bitch as his bloodtype fuck you cameron

  • Fuck Cameron And yes your right i cant make a sci fi movie as he can bu then again sci fi is for nerds like you me i like b movies HAHAH Fuck off!

  • uggg i hate avatar.

  • "Terminator 2 - Judgement day" was the peak of his creativity and by my opinion the peak in film industry by any criteria (True masterpiece). He created parallel reality with enormous details and background and 100s and 100s of hours of expensive movie material just to make it more realistic in a final cut. "The Terminator" and "Aliens" were fantastic but Avatar is only hi-tech first look make-up lame-hollywood movie.

  • "I don't wanna do the same thing twice" Good, then please don't make more Avatar films James.

  • All his films are awesome its just that he has a terrible personality.

  • Cameron is the guy who made terminator and Avatar but personally I feel Judgement Day was simply more believable and I could connect with it and as far as Avatar is concerned I just couldn't connect with the film. I felt I was watching Dances with Wolves in 3D and on much bigger scale. Avatar to me was a show reel of technology and thats all you see where classic way of storytelling takes a backseat. And I am not much into sci fi, I prefer smaller and simpler human stories which i can relate to

  • @Hoppus217 Avatar does not suck!

  • Comment removed

  • @Hoppus217 Yeah, it's only the best movie of all time, as shown by its profits.

  • i like what he said about the 3d movies.

  • his voice sounds like a mix of George Clooney and John Goodman.

  • im not really a cameron fan , i felt avatars plot was a bit thin and relied more on a focus on the visual element of the film. I also feel the film went on for too long and within the first hour i was bored by the shallow story line and the amazing special effects ceased to amaze me.

  • Smart guy. Very Successful.

  • I get the feeling this was originally a 30 minute interview that Time unfortunately edited to water down the content as much as possible.

  • @Hoppus217 So if a movie doesn't have very good characters and plot but has an amazing setting and incredible special effects it completely sucks in your book. That seems a bit extreme. I was dazzled, it was worth the time and money to go see.

  • That's Jim's house, by the way.

I know because I saw another interview with him in the same place where he said it was his house.

Also, there's a Terminator claw statuette in the background.

  • @sellgre2es Dude, no, terminator and titanic are classic masterpieces. Only hipsters don`t like something just because it`s hyped or mainstream. Those are classics that anyone should watch once in their lifetime. But, nevermind, i don`t have time for this, i have to study.

  • @MrSatanochio You should be castrated with two bricks for thinking Titanic is a good movie.

  • @hippotoast Ok man, whatever, say what you want to say, it`s youtube, i don`t care.

  • @MrSatanochio You forgot Aliens. His best film.

  • @MrSatanochio These videos have been the source of much of my procrastination.

  • What he just said about 3D is so true. I have gained a bit more respect for Mr. Cameron

  • @MrSatanochio titanic got boring real fast. the dialogue i mean. to the point where i just fast forward till the end and see all the people die lol. terminator i love to death.

  • @sellgre2es Titanic and Terminator ? Both with almost 20 Oscars put together ? You`re an idiot, even more for watching this.

  • everything in his head will be 3d not in mine and if i ever madea film who had the 70's as a fucking theme then fuck his idea 100% he can fuck off i wouldnt even shake the guys hand

  • @MrNicPhoenix Hmmm. The guy is a legend . Everyone knows that.

  • @MrNicPhoenix shut up cocksucker..you can't even make a film half his excellence. worship the guy, bitch.

  • APPLE :d

  • Avatar isn't overrated. It was just overhyped is all. I saw it opening day, so I wasn't bombared with hype before seeing it, because nobody saw it before me. And from that point of view, I loved it.

Though I will admit, it's not my "favourite" James Cameron movie. My favourites are still Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Aliens. Those are some of the best movies out there. :)

  • i love for James Cameron thinks he invented 3D up on his high pedestal.

remember, before Avatar there was The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3D.

    this hippie...

  • thevenusproject DONE

  • Titanic wheel, Terminator hand & figure, and True Lies Harrier Jump Jet modell in the background. Cool!

  • the new world > avatar

  • the problem with nature is that it isn't funny and it's boring

  • I hate sci-fi bullshit. But this movie was great and sent a good message :]

  • i love all the comments. Everyone talks they could even do a fraction of what is being said here. Personally I think movies are a very underrated entertainment. It should be more like going to the Opera, like a big event that only happens a few times a year.

  • I like Cameron. He's an intelligent man with clearly a lot of experience on his back.

His professionalism exudes from him, and you can't help but have respect for the man.

I feel this way about Ridley Scott too.

A rare breed of intelligent, easy to read, creative, and artistic directors.

  • Avatar was great... in 1995. If you know what I mean.

  • Avatar is pure Beauty. It´s Art. It´s an out of the box movie. A movie "out of this word" James Cameron Is a Genious =). People need to start making more movies that are set on a different scenario than earth. That´s why i love science fiction. It takes an enormous ammount of creativity and talent to come up with the things the great film makers have come with up all these years =). Plus space is beautiful. Sure we were borned in this planet. But we also need to explore ;)

  • Cameron has done so many different films and stories. Just like Stanley Kubrick did.

  • @ingareinar007 kubrick's in a different league though

  • @blaiserfilms That is true though :)

  • Hmm... yeah Titanic was better.

  • is that his house?

  • @Gustavo0929 office maybe

  • James Cameron is THE MAN! He looks so cool here. I don't see how you can call him an "asshole" when you watch JC do interviews like this. He's confident. Not arrogant. Those are two very different things. Given the enormous success of Titanic and Avatar, Cameron has every reason to be confident.

  • i want that t-800 hand on my desk, plizzz, or i'll be back

  • Go snorkeling in a coral reef? I would, but I don't have $5,000, LOL

  • All the haters.......Reasentent is not a flattering trait.

  • anyone who is saying that james cameron is full of him self or avatar is not a big deal is extremely art-blind and only an the artists know that because only people with this kind of vision can understand for real the brilliance of avatar and jims vision for it

  • INCEPTION BITCH.

  • @gapanlilio33 Your a stupid internet tool who is a "Follower" of other stupid tools who follow what ever is popular at the moment. One movie does not need to be the bashing of another movie you can like one or another you don't have to like both but box office speaks otherwise cuz Dark knight is barried along with inception by Avatar so cry and whine all you want you INT GETTING NUMBER ONE but you will talk shit like cuz you are a too lwho likes to hate what ever is successful.

  • @IcingINtheshower Is that all you can say is tool. Who the fuck says that? You are maybe the biggest douche on youtube. Go kill yourself faggot.

  • @Dccole3214 Ok you are a TOOL-BAG!!! You are a sewer rat!! WHo hangs out on the gutter of youtube comments section. You are angry at Avatar and Justin Beiber for being famous while you work at Mcdonalds!! If you want to be something go out and be it loser!!!

  • @IcingINtheshower You have more comments on here than I do. Use your head you dirty little chode. How can I be angry at Avatar? It's a movie idiot. I'm not angry at successful people, just the ones that think they are better than everyone like James Cameron. BTW, nice job spelling Bieber. Go beck to 1st grade and learn how to spell. Until then don't comment back.

  • @Dccole3214 I knew your TOOL-BAG-ASS would comment on the spelling. Your are such a bone head. JC is a success so you are angry at him it is a fact based on yer time wasted here bashing him when he is not doing anything harmful to you. Yer a tool. BBEEBER is another example too.

  • Christopher Nolan is better than any directors out there.

  • @ironman217007 INCEPTION

  • @HotPocketsBoy U are a tool and you did not understand one bit of Inception. You will be a DRONE for what I feed you you will do what I tell you and you will like it becuz you want to FIT IN and feel important which is why you conform to angry Justin Bieber hate over this intelligent andd SUCCESSFUL man.

  • @IcingINtheshower of course i understood inception. it not hard to understand unless ur an idiot. i dont hate james cameron. i dont know where u got that from terminator 2 is da shit

  • @ironman217007 No, you are just a drone who hates things that are successful and you think you know something, have some understanding about Nolan when really you are just a follower with no insight on anything of what matters.

  • @ironman217007 No, you are just a drone who hates things that are successful and you think you know something, have some understanding about Nolan when really you are just a follower with no insight on anything of what matters.

  • James Cameron preaching sustainability? What a joke. I guarantee he wasted more resources filming that one movie then most people do in a lifetime.

  • @Dccole3214 Shut the fuck up you TOOL. He is an activist and you are a fat masturbating loser. What the fuck do you contribute to the world?........that's what I thought motherfucker.

  • @Dccole3214 Shut the fuck up you TOOL. He is an activist and you are a fat masturbating loser. What the fuck do you contribute to the world?........that's what I thought motherfucker.

  • @IcingINtheshower Haha, coming from a guy named icingintheshower. Really? James Cameron is the biggest asshole I have ever seen. Quit sucking his cock and do a little research bitch.

  • @Dccole3214

Do you think he's like Michael Bay?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I know nothing about Michael Bay. What does he have to do with anything?

  • Ego maniac :))))

He didn't build any team, or any "NEEEEWWW TECHNOLOGY" everyting was there for the past 10 years, adn even other directors and movies implemented this tech. He's movie does not show anything new or any new idea. "His DESIGNS" are not his designs are the concept artist that worked on it and the actors only did referince for some other 3D animators (much like Pixar animators)

I don;t hate him or Avatar... it just that it's way way WAY to full of himself. :)

  • Its M Night Shamilan's opposite.

  • @tom9154 u mean shame lame

  • @Zukomanfan lol hell yeah

  • he gave some good answers :)

  • When was the last time you prayed the Rosary,James Cameron? When?

  • @EnergizerBunny804 thats true

  • @EnergizerBunny804 I have to agree with u on that one

  • @EnergizerBunny804 You sir are an idiot, the man himself says it is one of his greatest works.Who are you to say him the guy who made these amazing movies is wrong. You and 9 other people simply just do not like the movie, millions would disagree.

  • please, Avatar is easily the most overrated film of all time, right up there with Paranormal Activity, I've never heard a valid argument for Avatar being a good film, that didn't simply refer to how appealing it was to the eye, other than the visuals, seriously, what is so great about it? even the visuals aren't very creative, they just look good, seriously, it's just rain forest covered with some glow in the dark paint. The story was un-original, the characters were boring, totally overrated.

  • @EnergizerBunny804 Is that why it passed out even the titanic in popularity???I have seen hundreds of movies like most people nowadays, the story in my opinion is rly interesting and the pacing is very good, how good a job james does in showing us how the blue people(nari or sumthin like itha??) live, their culture and all that makes them who they are gives people a lot of respect for them and helps people feel sad for them when the humans attack them.

  • @EnergizerBunny804

Do you think it's Cameron's worst film? Terminator 1 & 2 had characters that were better right? and do you think it's on par with David Lynch's 1984 expensive epic-fail of a Sci-fi trainwreck known as Dune?

  • @Johnlindsey289 not his worst, Piranha 2 was worse

  • All these snobby faux "movies buffs" need to shut up about Avatar. It was a good movie. Most of James Cameron's movies are really good, including Avatar. Was it the best movie of all time? No, but it was quite good. If Avatar had a lower budget or bombed, it would have been "artisitc" or "underground." Just because something was successful and main stream doesn't make it bad.

  • @pelkeroni absolutely agree, Pulp Fiction is one of the best films of all time, and it was very successful. Avatar was TERRIBLE!!!! get it through your head that I don't dislike it because it was successful, it's because other than it's visuals, which were really fantastic, it was hollow inside. It's a film that should be seen in theaters just to experience it, but it was terrifically boring and way to long.

  • @EnergizerBunny804

    In your opinion, of course.

  • @TheBoomViper yes, and I'm very opinionated.

  • @EnergizerBunny804

Yes, you are. You thought Avatar wasn't an amazing film, even though the film itself was a critical success.

  • @TheBoomViper yes, I think that's been established

  • @EnergizerBunny804

And why do you suppose it was a critical success, if, as you say, the film is, I quote, "TERRIBLE!!!!!" ?

  • @TheBoomViper most critics have said that it's really nothing special in terms of plot or story. just that it's an un-deniable technical achievement, and for many critics this has been enough to either overlook the story, or perhaps they didn't find the story as bad as I did. but nobody in their right mind could consider it a grandiose achievement in any area besides technology and visuals.

  • @EnergizerBunny804

Perhaps you'd care to familiarize yourself with the consensus given to Avatar on RottenTomatoes[com]:

    ---

It might be more impressive on a technical level than as a piece of storytelling, but Avatar reaffirms James Cameron's singular gift for imaginative, absorbing filmmaking.

    ---

    Source: rottentomatoes.[com]/m/avatar/

  • The narrative would be ho-hum without the spectacle. But what spectacle! Avatar is dizzying, enveloping, vertiginous ... I ran out of adjectives an hour into its 161 minutes

Hype and overly zealous fans be equally damned, Avatar remains a fine, if flawed, film

Avatar looks amazing on Blu-ray If the plot wasn't so pedestrian it could have been a great film

Who needs 3D? The Blu-ray Avatar jumps off the small screen until the director's clunky moralizing takes over

  • A spectacular visual experience unlike anything you've seen before.

It's the experience, more than the story, that's worth celebrating here.

For all its powerful technologies, Avatar can't get out from under its essential cardboardness.

Alternates between a slurry of Franz Marc expressionism and the most elaborate Thundercats episode ever made

When all the hype and hullabaloo about Avatar calms down, we will be left with a film that's no masterpiece, but still well worth seeing.

  • Avatar is overlong, dramatically two-dimensional, smug and simplistic.

In spite of the amazing effects, it's yet another lemon from Cameron...

A wonder to behold, a story to forget.

And with this, the film decade comes to a disappointing conclusion.

Forget dancing with wolves, howzabout doing the Funky Chicken with aliens?

Avatar is great to look at, often astonishing and sometimes beautiful. But, oh, is the story pedestrian.

Enough toys to please all the kiddies in the audience.

  • a bold and imaginative vision brought low by a script that plays it very, very safe

And for the epic battle at the end, well let me just say it's as believable as the Ewoks beating the Empire at the end of Return of the Jedi.

It's a remote-control movie experience, a high-tech "wish you were here" scribbled on a very expensive postcard.

The film gets the closest any has to fulfilling the 3-D format's fundamental mission of creating a new, immersive way of looking at movies.

  • if it runs out of imagination and even some credibility when it comes to the plot, well, there is still enough on the screen to qualify as entertaining eye candy

Nothing destroys a decent movie more than calling it great, and while this one's a little better than decent, it's definitely a long way from great

Action-heavy epic has dazzling effects, familiar story.

For all its flaws as art, Mr. Cameron has served up functional entertainment with a gigantic price tag

  • @EnergizerBunny804 most of the reviews are to that effect they either praise the visuals and knock the story, or just ignore the story all together

  • @EnergizerBunny804

So then why didn't films like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen or Terminator Salvation obtain such high marks from most critics? Oops, well what do you know! For the same reasons you attribute to Avatar. It seems you fail to understand that paper-thin story is fine, so long as it is carried by good storytelling, and that's why Avatar was praised. It retold a classic story well, just like THE THING and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and many others, remember those?

  • first off, revenge of the fallen is nothing special in terms of visuals, and the story is so awful it deserves nothing more than to be trashed. and second, I thought Avatar was terrible, and the story wasn't enough for ME, I don't care if people say they like it, what I really find annoying is when people act like the story is something so fantastic, it's not, it's a very familiar story, even if its told well and it certainly does not deserve to be considered any kind of classic or landmark film

  • @EnergizerBunny804

Avatar is certainly no masterpiece...not by a long shot. But...it was judged by the relative majority of professional film critics as a very good film, and for a number of good reasons. Now, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, granted, but some would beg to differ whether it's an amazing film or not.

  • @TheBoomViper yes, that word amazing it's when people call it amazing, if Avatar's amazing that whats Pulp Fiction, Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Schindler's List etc. etc. and there is no denying how Avatar has sucked people in, and far too many people with an opinion of it which I truly think it doesn't deserve it.

  • He talks too much.

  • respect. and that is the biggest compliment i can give.

  • I can't help but notice the Terminator arm in the background from the second terminator film. ;D

  • @KimmieSpirit I was just going to mention that. Wouldn't that be so cool to have in your house?!?!?

  • so James Cameron what was it like working on AVATAR with Duke Nukem?

  • The movie was good, but you scared me with your edgy environmental message. The world isn't in that much trouble. We don't need to identify with the creation. There's nothing TO identify with anyway.

  • @19TimiT91

Oh yeah, the earth really isn't in that much trouble. Except for dwindling ressources, the mercury-poisoned rainforest (but don't we burn that down anyway, huh?), the erosion of soil, desertification, water scarcity, salting of soil, extermination of species and even whole ecosystems, nuclear waste that is highly poisonous and will be radioactive for 100000 years, ozone hole, Great Pacific Garbage Patch, smog, mining and poisoning the earth, biological pollution with GMOs, etc. etc.

  • This movie while visually stunning and artistic is also environmental propaganda and promotes spiritual new age poison.

  • I LOVE HIS DESK!!!

  • Why does everyone hate Avatar so much? It's kind of annoying.

  • I want that T-800 arm behind him...

  • please do battle angel next...

  • Avatar is overrated,is not so good as other cameron films such as terminator 2 or titanic

  • @kondurperusix So what that doesn't really make it overrated.

  • That's a sweet office he has. Nice set up.

  • go fish hypocrite.

  • James Cameron said it himself the best. We should gain an emotional reaction from Avatar, and translate that emotional response into action. I know many people who have received an emotional response, yet they have moved on... It's disappointing.

  • @HonorGuard117 i agree and i have to say that im one of them, i've taken small steps of action but my heart wants move in leaps and bounds but haven't quiet figured out how, or when or even why i haven't been moved enough to do so

  • Avatar is a technological feat, sure. But it's definitely not a great artistic achievement.

  • The plot is not so good as the effects

  • @staticsynth1 stupid lol

  • @staticsynth1 Really?

  • @staticsynth1 Give me a fucking break, stop pissing on all the CG/concept artists who put their soul into that project.

  • @MitsuGTO885 Agree with you.

  • rebecca is way too lovely

  • @Luvs23

um no... James Cameron was hoping for one but expected not to win. Sci fi films never win best picture. One never has won or probably ever will. Oscars are politics. If you think the movie that actually DESERVES best picture wins, then your an idiot.

  • @modernwarfare02 Normally, I'd agree but Hurt Locker absolutely deserved to win because it was the best movie.

  • @WhtMike2006 more people think hurt locker is shit

  • @UniversalBrother108 I second that, wholeheartedly
