For many years, the wife & I used to come to LV twice a year for about a week. After 2006, it became obvious that we had been pretty much priced out of the market. They kept blowing up the older hotels and putting up mega-hotels in their place, with much higher prices. Just not enough value anymore. It's too bad. We used to really enjoy the place. A middle age couple getting to act silly now and then. Farewell, Las Vegas. We camp now.
I love this slideshow! Iam a big fan of classic Las Vegas and love going downtown to The Fremont St experience.
Downtown is really all that is left of old Las Vegas except for The few on the strip such as The Tropicana, Sahara, Riveria, etc. Flamingo and Caesars too. By the way I have seen all of your L.V.slide shows and they are great . I remember how beautiful the orginal MGM was, but being that Iam a suvivor of the fire in 1980 my memories of its beauty are overshadowed.

The Plaza is really getting old, it needs about a 100 million dollar refurbishment.

...and, sadly, there's no such investment for the downtown area....

@Bartels92 I agree, I stayed there in April 2009. It was "okay" but it definitely could use an upgrade (especially the South tower).
