  • The hum-cancelling P-90s are impressively quiet, but it's not possible to tell from your demo how they will perform in an application requiring ultra-clean tone. It's probably due to your amp settings, but even before you hit the stomp-box, it sounds like there's a bit of distortion in the sound. I'm considering these as replacements in a baritone guitar, for which I need super-clean, sparkling sound. If you could do a demo with clean amp settings, that would be helpful.

    Thanks!

  • @freevito Demos take a lot of time from conception to posting but, I did record a cleaner version in my archtop Gibson 225. It should be up soon. I used 42 gauge wire instead of 43 and they are cleaner than the ones we sell most everyone. Original P-90s ranged from under 7k to over 9.5 and the lower ohm ones are cleaner. Our regular HCP-90s are like a 7.8 neck and a 8.2 bridge, the 42 gauge version would be like a 6.8 neck and a 7.6 br. Lindy

  • @FralinPickups Hi Lindy: Thanks for your reply. I understand that it takes time to do a demo. Thanks for responding with such useful information. I look forward to seeing the "cleaner version" demo. It's also good to know about the pickups with the 42 gauge wire.

I recognize that the vast majority of players these days want hotter pickups, which explains why so much guitar music pegs the grunge meter. Clean is out of fashion, it seems.

    Thanks again!

  • I have a 1957 les paul special that I am deeply in love with but the noise makes it unusable in many pro situations. I need to get a new axe because I can't bear to change her, she's perfect besides the hum. I love the p90 sound, these are close, and I'm curious

  • @jaikwillis Our hum-cancelling P-90s will fit with no mods to the guitar but solder joints. If you don't want to change that one take your time finding something with P-90 routs or have it made. I have both a custom Les Paul Special and a Tele body with the HCP-90s and love them both. Lindy Call any time.

  • 1) Awesome Cream lick you threw in

    2) Your pickups are fucking awesome

    3) You look like your pickups sound, quite ****in' badass

  • I was just wondering how that bigsby and the graph tech saddles are working for you. Does it stay in tune when using the bar? Is there enough downward pressure, or do you have any issues with the strings popping out of the saddles?

  • I think the HC P-90s are good foe everything. They have a lot of midrange but with single coil type top end. They are not as dirty as a great many real ones. Lindy

  • Are these pickups good for pop/punkish stuff (rhythm, not lead playing)? Have always been looking for a P-90 bridge with no noise for pop punk stuff. Think Green Day, etc. Guitar in question is a double cut junior.

    Thanks

  • What is your pole pieces height on this P90 hollow guitar ? Great sound...

  • @BELOROYAN This is a ES 225 Gibson from the late 50's. On this video it has 11 thru 48 strings with a plain G. I always set the poles by ear rather than measuring. Normally with this set of strings the "D" is the tallest and the rest are set by ear. Lindy

  • Accepting the fact that these will not sound exactly like your p92s, is it possible for the end user to modify these to fit a humbucker sized casing, or do you use the entire width of the covers to house the internals? These sound amazing!

  • @Anitrop They are too wide. The P-92s really are a P-90 sound in a humbucker cover. Check out the Flying "V" clip (remember the amp is only on 2). Lindy

  • Would these pickups be ok for a slightly overdriven sound -> distorted sound? i have a semi hollowbody guitar (riviera p93 specifically) and my stock pickups are good for their clean job, but even a bit of overdrive and they break up horribly. i was thinking of getting some of these hum cancelling pickups too, so it helped control the feedback.

If it is possible could you please do another video with these pickups but on a more distorted channel please? thanks for any advice in advance :)

  • @LordAzai They can be wound 5% cleaner or 5% dirtier. Feedback may be the guitar not the pickups if it's hollow. Call for more info. Lindy

  • those pickups are really cool. does anyone know how the actual p90 sound is kept while converting the pickup to a humbucker?? it seems kind of too hard to believe, but if its the case im definetly buying a pair

  • @CJsoccer4 It was years of trying different prototypes. I think the main feature is the same pole-piece and magnet strength. The biggest difference between humbuckers and single coils are humbuckers pickup the string at two places and singles only one. LF

  • @FralinPickups hey thanks very much for the reply. im definetly going to look into your pickups, i have heard many great things...i just need to teach myself how to hear differences in pickups over the rest of the guitar parts...this is probably really hard to describe...but do you know what part of the tone or thing i could look for in a guitars sound to destinguish pickups apart??? this is because evertime i can compare pickups its always a different guitar. much thanks cj ritman

  • @CJsoccer4 When we listen to a customer about what they want I try to break it down to two main things. How much power do you want, and how dirty do you play. More power is always thicker, dirtier and darker, less power is more open, airy and cleaner. People who play dirty like more aggressive pickups and clean layers like single coils because they have brighter wound strings. After that everyone is different as to what they like. Call the shop and we'll talk. Lindy

  • Go Nasty!

  • I just have to know where you found a 3 pickup gibson semi-hollow. that guitar is awesome!

  • @vivalaking That 225 was stripped of all original parts and had an amateur neck set. I cut the neck and middle holes to make it a 3 pickup. Lindy

  • @FralinPickups thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it. I feel the225, 135, and other semihollow p90 guitars are severely underated instruments. which is ok! keeps the prices down.

  • @vivalaking I like the hollow bodies because you wear them more out front and higher. I play a different style on them. They have there limitations though, (high volume). The necks on the 50's have my favorite shape. Lindy

  • Ah- OK. Thanks Lindy. And I suppose the Twangmaster is simialr config.

Looking forward to putting P-92 or TM into my next guitar with one of your split blade tele bridge pickups...

  • Lindy, are you saying the P-92 is NOT a hum canceling pickup? I had the idea that it was.

  • @evogel99 The P-92 is fully hum canceling. (two coils for hum canceling) I should have said it is our hum canceling P-90 in a humbucker rout. Lindy

  • +10 for Cream's "Swlabr" :)

  • Are the P92s the same pickup in a humbucker sized format or a totally different pickup?

  • @m0b1liz3 They are very different. Inside is two coils for hum canceling, one on the left and one on the right. This means each string is picked up at only one point so they sound like a single coil pickup. The P-92 is our P-90 in a humbucker cover. Lindy

  • @FralinPickups

Ok, so I guess the question was do the P-92s sound the same as your P-90?

I have Deluxe that was routed for HBs so in theory either pickup would fit. I want a P-90 sound.

  • @m0b1liz3 Yes, the P-92 sounds like a P-90 in humbucker cover. Lindy PS check out our videos of them on youtube.

  • I would love to hear how a Jazz player would sound on the neck pickup alone...

  • Thanks for putting up all these videos, Lindy. Very informative.
