  • Love her voice!

  • how come old songs voices sounds all the same? some about the old trechinche?

  • @funnyfurtuson they really don't; voices on new songs all sound the same

old really don't because of the much less compression regulary

  • Absolutely Beautiful from The One and only Anita Carter (June Carter's sister)

  • what a great post! thanks!

  • WOW!!! This is the first time I've ever heard his woman sing. This blows my mind! She's amazing!

  • wow, this one of the best versions of this song and Anita!

  • oh my goodness that was beautiful

  • I am a fan of the JR Cash as well as the Carters - -but I much prefer Anita's version of the song. JR was an up and coming country super star and added the horns to it -- the public went wild for it. But I like this version best of all...

  • I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN LOVE WITH ANITA and watching these videos just goes to show and remind me why. So So pretty and such a talent.. I hope she is in Heaven. R.I.P. I still love her memories.

  • what a voice!!! Innocence and range and expression!!!

  • R.I.P. Anita Carter~ 12 years on this day.

  • Yes Anita has a lovely voice...can you imagine the angelic crystalline contralto Karen Carpenter singing this lovely song...and the warm tones Karen would envoke...

  • @cd72 I agree that Anita's voice comes as close as possible to Karenl Carpenter's crystalline purity. A Karen Carpenter only comes once every 100 yrs.

  • Truly one of the most beautiful women and voices in country music. Rest in peace, gorgeous Anita.

  • she is wonderful!!! what a voice!!! she is pretty!!! i love anita, helen, june, mother maybelle and johnny cash of course!!! i love country music!!!! in brazil we have funk, aché, pagode!!! what a disgrace!!!! long live anita!!! we miss you forever!!!

  • i love anita and helen along with june carter

  • The first recording was by Anita Carter (sister of June) on her Mercury Records album Folk Songs Old and New (1963) as "(Love's) Ring of Fire".and some months later Johnny Cash released it in his Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash album (1963).

  • Its a shame, the Carter Family is known for their singing, not writing songs, but so few recordings survive.

  • quite catchy!!!!

  • The Carter family started the wonderful music we like to call Country!

  • The only singer that can match her beautiful voice clarity is Karen Carpenter.

  • This is great, wow what a voice

  • This is a very nice version. But only if you are Anita Carter you can sing it.On the contrary, you may sing-a-long Johnys' version

  • No artists could do what the Carter Family did. Best music in the world.....as far as we old Hillbilly types think. Fo sho!!

  • Awesome.

  • angelic voice

  • What a beauty in voice and complexion

  • Anita had a unique way of singing, she sang in between notes and at her own pace, unless she was singing with someone else. RIP, one of, if not the greatest female singers ever......

  • this is the first time i have ever heard this version and i must say though it is not what i am used to i most definitely could get used to it! ANITA CARTER HAS THE BEST FEMALE VOICE EVER!

  • @foreverhulkamania Her voice is great, but Karen Carpenter may be considered the best.

  • wow awesome thats right up there with ' as the sparrow goes' as one of anitas best ever

  • Anita´s voice when she speek is like June´s ! :)

  • @AlexisGuitar94 Yes, June and Merle Kilgore wrote this song together

  • Social Distortion did it best.

  • Amazing version. June Carter wrote it right ?

  • @AlexisGuitar94 Yes She did :)

  • it's beautiful but i don't understand why they never sound like they are actually burning with it..for me, it misses this, but her voice is beautiful please don't get me wrong i am not dissing anything, just thinking aloud

  • Wow, such an incredible voice, just wow

  • Gosh, both versions are great, but I like three "burns" so much better than four!

  • i like johnny's better

  • Very beautiful song and the most beautiful voice, I´m absolutely overwelmed .Thanks stljpc.

  • Very nice!!!

  • Awesome!

  • I love her voice!!! But what she really could do better than anyone else was to harmonize. Unmistakable. And it is not a detract at all

  • Vocally it would be hard for anyone to sing anyting better than Anita Carter...But Cash's orignal '63 version was as different as anything heard at the time, which gave it an entirely different feel IMO. Regardless, ROF is still a great song performed by two even greater artists!

  • @anthony1962 Yes, John's remake of this song was different than the original by Anita. It is said he asked Anita if he record it cause he heard horns in his head when he listened to her sing it. They are both great versions in their own rights. There is no specific better version, just the one you prefer!

  • @Rcksaltnnails Did I understand you to say that Johnny grew horns on his head when he heard Anita sing this? Do they make an antibiotic for that?

  • "Some guy named Cash, John, John R I think" < Epic!

  • after miss kitty i am starting to warm to this wonderful wonderful singer

  • Beautiful

  • One of the most beautiful natural voices ever recorded....and this from a self professed opera snob!

  • I never heard her sing before. She's wonderful! Such a clear voice. Love that yodelly thing at the end....its so awesome!

  • best voice of all of them, any body know what kind of auto harp that is in the picture

  • love this version

  • I love this version the best.

Also, I think it's funny. . ."some guy named Cash. John or somethin'. . ."

  • @dragonfiresword1118 I don't know if you ever seen her live, but she had great comedic timing. Love her.

  • Wow! a live version of my favorite version of Ring of Fire. The studio version has a fantastic eerie quality, and this one rocks too. Thanks for posting!

  • love anita so much!

  • love the way the song is sung by anita. its different of what usually is known but great. to me as an european it seems as if that way of music is right from the bible belt and as if i can hear some irish (celtic) heritage.

  • ya but were is johnny cash

  • Not there, with them...

  • Anita has the sharpest, clearest voice of anyone. It is a pleasure to hear her sing any song. Great!

  • Goregeous voice!

    One of a kind!

    Charming!

    Thanks for posting.

  • this song is versatile

it can be sang by different people and changed up a bit and still sound amazing

i love her singing it and of course i love when johnny sings it

but ive heard other renditions of it that i love too

  • I tottaly agree. Try to find June Carter Cash singing it, it iw really good.

I apologize for it seems I have pressed the wrong button, I did not mean thumbs down, but thumbs up. Unfortunattely, I do not know how to reset it. Please excuse me.

  • @AlexandrasAve Ok ,i´´ll press it x you, dont worry.

  • I agree with nochokin that this is a beter version than Johnny's. But it is not for everybody to sing-a-long, as it requires a voice like Annita's. Maybe this is the reason Johnny's version was that a succes. Ever heard of Jun's Carter-Cash version?

  • Wow!

  • Pure beauty. I agree with the poster who says they don't like country music but do like the Grand Ol' Opry sound. This is so good.

  • I have always admired ANITA CARTER, beautiful Voice. I prefer this original version, then Cash's version.

    Maybelle would be proud.

    Peace to you, Anita

  • *GGG* !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I used to love watching the Johnny Cash show. In the aely 50's Anita Carter sang on a TV show with Hank Williams. He left Us too soon. Imagine the beautiful songs He could have written.

  • Her voice was so amazing there is very few voices I have heard that stand out quite like hers to me she was and always will be on of a kind!!

  • che voce !!!!BRAVISSIMA

  • I hate contemporary country music. But, for some odd reason, I love this Grand Ole Opry type stuff.

  • this is better than johnny version ...i love this one

  • I wish I had the record of this song

  • She was an angel. Love her soooo much.

  • man i love the country

  • Interesting to here the original version. Well, a performance of the original version atleast, i'm aware it's not the original recording.

  • i love this song :D

    shes pretty

  • she is just gorgeous

  • I am so in love with this woman!

  • Comment removed

  • Dear God You are sooo lucky , you have her now, voice of an angel.

  • Both versions are good. Anita has a pretty voice... But I agree that Johnny can hardly be beaten.

  • True, Johnny can hardly be beat, but he CAN be beat, and this is one time it happened. This isn't eve what her original version sounds like, it is way better than this.

  • this is like gospel.....so thats why you like cashs more

  • something about her voice...

  • I always enjoyed this version over the cash version. I just heard this version again today for the first time sense johnny recorded it, seems this one just disappeared.

  • Love that classic country sound.

  • i like johnny's XD

  • I like it, but prefer Junes version

    :D

  • Awesome, knee knocking.. American was built

on this music, not wassup crap~!!

  • I really love her phrasing on this. Its such an honest and unpretentious reading of this classic song.

  • the original :)

  • She sure enough was a knockout.. None of the Carter gals were hard to look at and they all were awesome singers as well. We are lucky to have had them.

    Now we have rap. barf!!!

  • @larrydh2 yes, barf!!!

  • @larrydh2 I'm kinda disgruntled that I clicked thumbs up, until I read ALL of your message, but that's what I get! Rap is NOT barf! Rap has different styles, just as some Country is BORING as heck, and some country really grabs the heart. Anyway...

I digress... Yes Anita Carter was AMAZING!!!

  • @larrydh2 Yesa, BARF!!

  • My god, she is gorgeous!

  • Wonderful! Great voice!

  • Anita Carter had one of the most beautiful female voices I have ever heard in my life, if not the most beautiful in fact. Her voice was 'achingly beautiful' to the point of being able to give you that shivering sensation.

She was also a stunningly beautiful lady. She was from a time when women really were ladies & looked like ladies....they dressed 'real pretty.' So sad, we have lost that forever in this modern world.

  • Eek, you're so right about her voice! I got goosebumps listening to that.

  • Man, she had a great singing voice, to me she sang better than Helen or June, but all together the Carter Family sounded magnificent.

  • june wasnt much of a singer, but she had a great character. so most people still love june :)

  • It is hard to separate June Carter's voice from her character. She was so entertaining. And her voice was pretty great.

  • wow, amazing, 1000 times better than JR Cash!

  • nah man johnny was a tryue legend

  • Johnny made the best male singer for the song that was put on a CD

But Anita has my heart for best female singer of it

  • wow

  • she has such a powerful voice, truly beautiful, still prefer cash's though

  • i prefer her version

  • Wonderful!

  • chills ... and tears ... just pure beauty

  • When the Carter Family did "Were You There", Anita is the one with the great voice. She was very pretty, too.

  • It sounds so weird hearing this version when i'm used to Cash's

  • Anita was an amazing talent!

  • her voice is amazing!

  • Anita Carter, definatley the best voice out of the Carter Family. LOVE HER!

  • i love this so great good job

  • When she talks she sounds SO MUCH like June when she talks. Interesting way to sing the song.

  • don't you just love anita carter

  • Love it all, her voice and interpretation and the music. Sweeter than Tupelo honey.

  • Never got the recognition she deserved and is almost unknown. Great shame. By far the best of the Carters and a real great.

  • Wow, what a mindblowing voice!!! She also reminds me of Kay Starr, as well as Patsy. But stunning in her own unique way...

  • I love love love this!! That voice OMG!

  • I agree with the underrated statement. She didn't get nearly enough recognition for her voice.

  • The Carter familys influence is so underrated, as proved by this performance.

  • Wow, she is incredible. I have heard and in fact am listening to it now, her original version of this and it is just beautiful. She could have had such a career but the Carters were about family and none of them sought real fame apart from each other. She can sing these female singers of today under the table. I used to think Pasty Cline was untouchable but Anita surpasses even her. But their voices were completely different so it's like apples and oranges.

  • @missdirtysocks Yeh, her voice is much higher than Patsy's, so the comparison is not a good one. A better comparison would be Tammy, as their range is similar.

  • wow this version is beautiful. she has such a great voice. greatly underrated.

  • Wonderful! I've been a music fan for over 50 years, but I'm afraid that I a missed a few things. Of course I know the Carter Family (Thanks to them for "Wildwood Flower"-1927, the first Country hit) but Anita slipped through the cracks somehow. Beautiful girl, wonderful performance and a great voice! Thanks to "stlipfc" for posting and Good Luck to all!

  • O MY GOD...I have been waiting for more Anita on YOUtube!

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

She has the most beautiful voice!

  • Greatest voice ever.

  • This is so different from Johnny's version, what was she, his sister-in-law?

  • yes. she was June's sister.

  • this is the original version though

  • the instrument she was holding once belonged to her auntie sara

  • Sara had a Guitaro until her death in 1979. The one Anita is holding is part of a promotional for Oscar Schmidt (her own). Anita was the chief model for this instrument. Sara used her Guitaro on the "Historic Reunion" album and for a number of shows including reunions at the Carter Fold.

  • What a sweet, talented, very un-rated girl.

  • I don't know if that was a typo, but... yeah. These days: not just under-rated, but un-rated. well said.

Pretty version- I hadn't heard it before this vid.

  • Yes, actually I meant under-rated, lol oops

  • Anita....An angel could never sing better that her...

  • Anita is something of a mystery....so so talented. What kept her from being say a dolly parton....hmmmmm? So beautifull thanks so much for posting its great.

  • Johnny Cash used to say and write that the two greatest female country voices belonged to Anita Carter and Connie Smith. He also wrote that Anita could have been much bigger but often asked her sisters to join her and the result would often be more of a group (the Carter Sisters, or Carter Family). Her range was incredible and her ability to project in person caused quite a lot of adjustments with sound people.

  • There something so sweet and dear about her voice. Never heard anyone could really match her in country music.

  • I'm so glad you feel the same way if you have any more anita carter or any carter songs message me

  • i love it

  • Brilliant mate
