  • According to wikipedia, the name of the song is "Blow A Fuse" which was a cover version of an Austrian song "Und jetzt ist es still" performed by Horst Winter in 1948. Wiki can be wrong but there are lyrics with this title as well. Bjork covered it under the 'quiet' title released as a single and on the album "Post" released in 1995.

  • Love the song, but the title is 'It's Oh So Quiet', shame to get it wrong.

  • @ispy1967 troll or idiot?

  • thumbs up if mythbuster brought you here!

  • ssss

  • Betty Hutton was a one-woman marvel.

    Thanks for this!

  • Betty's version is supremely original but equal is also a cover ("Und jetzt ist es still", performed by Horst Winter in 1948); most of the people do not know it and: Perhaps that matters?

  • Bjork has nothing on this

  • this is a very crazy version (original) hahahaha

    but i like it

  • habituellement j'aime pas les reprise mais comme j'ai connu la version de Björk avant je préfere cette derniere ! tous ce que bjork fera et reprendra je vais probablement le préféré hihi ! je suis son fan #1

  • Does anyone have the original version of this song: "Und Jetzt ist es still" - performed by Horst Winter (1946)? I can't find it anywhere!! Thanks!

  • @Marisch Thanks for mentioning this original, I went hunting for it after seeing your post and found it right here on youtube...(posted after you left this comment LoL ;)....just put "Und jetzt ist es still" in your youtube search if you haven't found it yet.~~Thanks again! :)

  • @missgriffin777 I can't be believe you've found it!! It's amazing!! Thanks so much!!

  • I KNEW this had to be an old song! It's got that nice flare :P

  • "Real" = a cover of the Austrian song Und jetzt ist es still, performed by Horst Winter in 1948, written by Austrian composer Hans Lang and Erich Meder

  • Wonderful! Love Betty Hutton!

  • Much better than Björk's version. I can FINALLY understand the words to the song, with the appropriate pronunciation and all!

  • Actually even Bjork doesn't like her own version, not because she thinks she did bad but because it is a cover. She tries really hard to compose as much original music as she can, it is her goal. However, I'd have to say that she collaborates with other artists very much and even uses samples sometimes. Regardless I love Betty Hutton as well. I'm glad our contemporary greats are keeping her memory alive by covering her marvelous performances. Much love to all! : )

  • @doubled7

Bjork must be a good friend of yours ...

  • @kmonster420 lol Bjork is not one of my friends but I'm a huge fan that has read and watched many of her interviews. I am only repeating what she stated in various interviews and what I know about her career.

  • @doubled7

That's cool... just messin' with ya

  • It's hard for me to decide which version I like better. The original or the cover done by Bjork. They're the same yet extremely different. I like both! =)

  • Well of course I am going to say I prefer Bjork's version- the extremes are all there in her voice.. loud to quiet... But this is still a great version too- it's possible to like them both so I don't see why people should argue- it's just taste after all- neither can be said to be better than the other- just different.

  • Why can't I get this song on CD or MP3 download? Does anyone know?

  • with media converter you can. only write the link of the video

  • DVDVideoSoft

  • You know??? There's no need to call me that! Asshole! Sorry but that's how it's done!

  • see antonia dora plesko

  • her voice fits this song way better than bjorks

  • No, THIS is the original, "It's oh so quiet" is a cover from Björk.

  • this is actually a cover too from a 1948 austrian song wich i don't remember the name right now

  • @einaqua

Actually the REAL original version of this song is called "Und jetzt ist es still" and it's from 1948.

  • @saragusme It doesn't sound similar to me... :S

  • @einaqua no the original is Harry (Horst) Winter - Und jetzt ist es still (1948)

  • @SimonSayzMusic Yes, if you could read before writing you'd see someone said that before, and my answer was that it doesn't sound similar to me.

  • Dumb dumb. Bjork renamed it "it's oh so quiet"

  • @Tinafigureskating Ok Ok OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get it! Why did I get so many "bad comments"? Just for saying that this music is called "It's oh so quiet" not "Blow a fuse"! I was mistaken!!!!!!!!!!! Ok??? That's it! You know, I'm a human being too! Geez! Haven't you ever made a mistake??? Gosh!

  • this song it's actually a cover from "Und jetzt ist es still" by Horst Winter (1948)

  • Where can this be found? I'm interested in comparing.

  • @laubandel Just search it on youtube. Someone has uploaded the video :D

  • Can't find a link to that. Please supply.

  • antonia totally rocked it..shes my favourite..watch her video..shes amazing

  • Anyone have the changes for this piece? I'd love to play along.

  • You should watch this and than you will be impressed:

SuperTalent2009 Antonia Dora Pleško - Blow a fuse (Oh so quiet) - Croatia

  • Bjork has best cover..Wot rubbish, must have absolutely no sense of style...

  • bjork got the best cover

  • I like Bjork's cover better though.. o.O

  • i think they both sound nice

  • rubbish! hurray for hollywood! bjorks ok at it, not better than this though!

  • I didn't even realise the Bjork version was a cover. Explains why its so much different to all her other work. Haha ^.^

  • A lot of people think that Bjork wrote this song This is a much better than any song that Bjork ever wrote

  • Thanks for posting!!

  • I think the shh parts are definitely better in the Bjork song because it's slower. The rest is more a matter of taste.

  • Love it! Thanks for posting.

  • YEah much better than Bjork

  • I love this song!!! <3

  • more jazzy then Bjork. equally matched for both singer

  • i prefer the "shhh" of Björk...

    XD

  • hehe ^^

  • lol ^^

  • I like Bjork's version more cause I heard it first as a child but this version is great as well ^^

  • I agree.

  • wery good, powerful voice,

  • I like this; it's so much crazier than Bjork's version

  • I meant this in a good way

  • @roshielala times a bout a bajillion !

  • @roshielala Yay

  • @roshielala lol she does sound really crazy xD

  • Nah, this is a billion times better.

Hutton was actually crazy. Bjork is just a nice girl.

  • Then you haven't seen much of Bjork. At all.

  • why do you say she was "crazy"?

  • i don't see how this can't be seen, it's an opinion, nothing wrong!

  • I know! I agree. Everyone has different opinions.

  • @Shtove you're right! This IS a billion times better. And I think Betty Hutton being crazy just made her that much more loveable...as twisted as that sounds. lol.

  • @Shtove Bjork sucks I know

  • @ConfusedSponge why would you say that?

  • @leguminoso Because I could only tell the truth.

  • Does anybody happen to know why none of her three daughters showed up at her funeral?

  • I think her voice is more fit for this song. But I liked Bjorks pacing of the song better. So to me there pretty much equally good. :D

  • Comment removed

  • No, not really. It's a pretty innocent song.

  • wtf?? are you stupid or what?? if you consider this inapropriate for a 10 year old, then you must want to raise that kid in wonderland,

  • This song is about an infatuation. How could it be inappropriate?

  • good use of jazz

  • It's a shame that Betty Hutton isn't better remembered as other singers of that era, because she kicks so much ass on this song.

Here's to you Ms. Hutton, where ever you are.

  • I agree, there are movie historians that consider Betty a rock singer from the Big Band era- she certainly had a way of moving and animating during her more raucous numbers, but, at the same time, she would bring a tear to your eye when she sang a ballad- may she rest in peace.

  • this is so awesome. she's crazy, and you need that for this song.

  • funny how bjorks number one song is a cover

  • Yes It was her biggest hit although her first album Debut was pretty good

  • Thanks Björk for making a cover of this song, otherwise I wouldn't have found this great original! Betty Hutton, what a singer! Big love to you Tinosoft for putting this on Youtube.

  • Come on, Betty was singing the song a million years ago. She had a fantastic voice. This was a "novelty" ong. People used to get a laugh out of stuff like this. Bjork is immensely gifted in her own right, and did a great homage to Betty. Still, Bjork really didn't re-interpret the song, other than remove some of the (now)kitchy style elements and pacing. It's a re-tred, but an unusual and inspired one. Kinda like "Istanbul was Constantinople"

  • Actually some of the lyrics are slightly different, so it's not entirely, entirely word-for-word. I kinda like Bjork's version a lot better, just my opinion hehehe

  • I love both versions, but I liked how Bjork slowed it down a few beats per minute. (if that makes sense) So I guess I like the cover better. Again- both versions are damn good.

  • this is purrrrrrrfect, my new love!

  • Oh wow.... her voice is so strong and so perfect for this song.

  • I love her voice to so much.

  • Well, this is the original. Bjork's is softer, then quick. That's what makes it more appealing. If Betty Hutton had done it the way Bjork did it, Betty Hutton's voice would have done it more justice.

  • The original version is 99 Percent of the time the best version no matter who is doing the cover

  • Are you kidding? Bjork copied Betty's performance word for word! I couldn't believe my ears!

  • Word for word sure, not note for note.

  • Bjork has the chops to pull of such a quirky number. In that way she is very like Betty Hutton, who was known for doing "crazy" numbers in her time.

  • cool^^

  • i love you betty!

  • This is such a wonderful song! Betty Hutton is an amazing singer and actress. I listened to Bjork's version, but, to me, Betty is better. She sounds like a grown woman, whereas Bjork's voice has more of a little girl quality.

  • Bjorks' is better!

  • i love bjorks version, but this is better

betty hutton has a nicer voice and a cute hint of an accent.

  • i like this version more than the Bjork as well its so cool lol

  • I am a big Bjork fan, and always wanted to hear the original. I think I like this one better.

  • I think the beat is to fast and I don't like when the men are singing with her.

I think it's better with Björk. Maybe that's just because we are both from Iceland :)

    But this is okay...3 stars***

  • I think the original version is better in it's own context. Björk's cover is fun but she has never done another song like it. It was the song that everyone used against her to prove that she was crazy. And it's sad that It's Oh So Quiet is B's biggest hit. Both versions are amazing, though.

  • both are greaaat

  • I'm not sure why it's always reported on the Internet that the original name of this song is "Blow a Fuse." It was never called that. It's listed as "It's Oh So Quiet" on the original 1951 RCA Victor release (it's the b-side of Betty's hit "Murder, He Says").

  • Thought it was released in 1942?

Anyway, Blow a Fuse is a much better title.

  • not bad!!!! :)))))))

  • I had never heard this version! o.o

  • Incredible, I discover this song in a frensh movie and I always seek the name of the singer. Thanks.

  • Betty Hutton, born Elizabeth June Thornburg February 26th, 1921, passed March 11th,2007, will be one of the most dynamic and versatile talents that you may ever witness. Icelander Bjork does a nice cover of this song as well(she calls it It's Oh So Quiet instead of the original tidal as sung by Betty which was called Blow a Fuse).

  • this version is way better

  • cool!!! but the bjork`s version i like more!

  • DAmn!!! I had no idea it was a cover. props to bjork for helping me find the original, i dig both, the American original and Bjork's cute accented version and cool video.

  • Thought Bjork had this sussed. Brilliant Betty!!!!

  • Listening to Bjork songs. Found Bjork's version. Then I caught a woman named Natalia who song it later after Bjork's came out. Then lo and behold another version which I'm guessing is the original version. I have learned much tonight. This is a really good song that is open to many different ways to do it. Thanks to Bjork.

  • This is the original- recorded by Betty in the 1940's. Guess everything has to start somewhere- and singing a song like this was par for the course for the Great Hutton!

  • I adore Betty Hutton! You've just got to watch her in action, too! She was called America's Jitterbug, because she never stopped moving. she was so darn cute!

  • WOW!!!

  • :| better than bjork!

  • I love it! x)

  • i wouldn't think this to be in Björk's taste. funnily enough i was expecting Enjoy to follow up before I remembered this wasn't Post.

  • original is always better

but björks OWN music is totally awesome

  • her voice the adventures the completly different cds the sense the metaphers the compositions lyrics the musicvideos remixes connections naturally intilligent inspiring and that people like you don't understand it because they are oo lazy to get it
  • It's absolutely amazing :D

I really love it more than Björk's version (and I like Björk). <3

PS : Lisa Ekdahl sing this song wonderfully :D

  • I heard this long before Bjork's paler version. I would love to have seen her perform this song. (Not knocking Bjork btw - I just think Betty's version is better).

  • Id rather listen to this than Rihanna or any other contemporary chart bollocks

  • This is wonderful. I like both versions.

  • I can't say whose version I like the most but she does pull the 'THIS IS IT!!!!!' perfectly... sounds so hysterical! (2:03)

  • This woman is so under rated. Seriously, consider the time period. NO ONE was doing this. No one was loud or screaming, or beautifully losing it in their music. This woman is fantastic.

  • A true anachronism.

  • Think again, there was a brand of performer called the 'comedianne' in the the old variety show enviroment. These types of performers were so common that the mold was hard to break for subsequent female performers. Ethel Merman was one of the most prominent of these comedianne performers.

    Look into it.

Bjork has a retro aspect. Check out a record called Gling Glo.

  • Not in the name of feminism however.

    This woman was.

  • Back then, the whole system was throughly controlled by men. Women's roles were typecast to distessed maidens whispering vocalists and the female 'clown' type singing of entertainer in the template of Martha Raye, Betty Hutton, Judy Garland, Ethel Merman, and others. This templete of misogony survives with the recent Annie pictures and stage productions. Such art teaches young girls that all that they can hope for is some rich man to rescue them.

  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Mispost! This performance is the opposite.

  • Hmmm, they both do it well, but I'm very fond of Bjork's version.

  • scary lol.

  • I always wondered who did the original version of this song - I should have guessed, I mean... who else!

  • heeter 71, just goes to show the world that only Betty Hutton had the unequivocal dynamic to perform a number like this one. I must admit that I like bjork's version of this song also but I can't say that I like the other pitiful versions I've heard.

  • Others have actually attempted this song?! Who?

  • Bjork - Dont know her surname

She's from Iceland - Just youtube "Bjork"

    In my eyes Bjork's better

  • Bjork's surname is Gudmundsdottir. Her version of "It's Oh So Quiet" is actually the first one I heard. I've just recently discovered that Betty Hutton did it. Someone made a comment below the video that others besides these two have covered this song. That's what I was curious about. :)

  • heeter71,just check out the related videos on the right side of Betty's pic. There are several vids of the song posted. What saddens me is that too many people think that Bjork is the original singer of the song-Blow A Fuse. I kinda like Bjork's Version but I feel that they need to know that Betty set the precedent of how the song should be performed. Good luck.
