3:37. Man, I didn't even watch this video and HOLMES is saying the same thing about Bernard Hopkins that I said. Hopkins, Hit's Hold, Hits Hold. Bernard Hopkins Stinks. He rob the sport of boxing and got away clean with a stinking style. O, Long Live Larry Holmes.
larry homes never bullyed tyson at all he never lyed a bule print what a prick homes was backing up the whole fight tyson creamed him easy 4 4 rounds and show how much he knows because aduly harrison continued to flop
Bunce says "Audley Harrison is just as good as the "SO-CALLED" heavyweight champions at the moment. LOL!!! Bunce is a retard. Didn't Harrison get smacked around by a Irish cab driver? Anyway, Bunce needs to start aknowledging the greatness of the slavic heavies. God dam English sissy boy!!!
Holmes was always bitter. Look at him. In 9 minutes he makes out that Ken Norton was a good fighter and that the Klitschkos and Foreman were not. What a bitter. I bet he is a Toffee and all. Bitter Bitter Bitter.
Sorry Bunce Tyson won every round against Holmes and then KO'd him badly in the 4th. And everyone knew how to beat Tyson, that you have to push him back, thats how you beat any swarming puncher--its just that no one had the physicality or composure to do it.
Tyson beat himself. He pissed away his prime when he stopped taking his career seriously and associated himself with Don King. No one was going to push away 1987 Mike Tyson.
Yes I am repeating stuff like a parrot, but what I am repeating is basically common knowledge in boxing. And if you listen to the cornermen in Tyson's fights vs guys like Biggs and Berbick you will see that the advice they give is what Douglas and Holyfield were later able to implement. And I'm not knocking Holmes by the way. He was indeed over the hill and coming off a long layoff. But Bunce was trying to make this fight seem close, and it wasn't. There's no need to hurl insults either.
You have a point about keeping Tyson out of range. But you are a little bit ignorant.
That's not hurling insults. I'm just saying that you are ignorant of something. I'll tell you what it is:
An in-fighter has an advantage over an out-fighter. An out-fighter has an advantage over a puncher, and a puncher has an advantage over an out-fighter.
Crap analysis by Steve Bunce. Both Holmes and Tyson were slightly overrated fighters in their prime. Holmes had problems with big punchers and didn't clean up the division (like Tyson and Ali did) to become undisputed champ. Can't really be on the 'GREATS' hit-list if ur not undisputed or beat a reigning undisputed champ. Shame Holmes didn't fight Page, Dokes, Thomas, Coetzee, Tubbs and avoided return bouts with Weaver, Cooney, Witherspoon, Snipes! Tyson came along when all these boys turned old
ArchitectOfEvil. Lol. Nice of you to call names when sum1 tells the TRUTH & rattles your little cage! Are U out yet? I rattled yr cage hard with yr 4 Donut responses!
Holmes WAS Overrated! He came in at right time, didn't have to face MONSTERS like Foreman, Frazier, Liston, & prime Ali etc. Nearly got KO'd by old Shavers & young inexperienced Snipes & Witherspoon. With more wisdom, Snipes & Spoon would have SMASHED Holmes! Holmes was LUCKY! Next MONSTER Holmes faced was TYSON & we know result!
Holmes didn't even come close to fighting "every contender out there". He never fought Dokes, Page, Thomas, Tubbs, Tate or Coetzee. In fact he never fought any of the other champions. Most of his title defenses were mismatches against journeymen or novice level heavyweights.
@ArchitectOfEvil A dumb idiot, eh? Does that mean there are idiots who aren't dumb? You need not worry on that score, as you're clearly in the first category.
All those guys held a portion of the title and had a lengthy spell in the top ten and most assuredly were much more talented and dangerous than Zanon, Evangelista, Leon, Cobb, LeDoux, Marvis, Ocasio and the rest of the bum of the month club Holmes defended against.
Ha, you're too dumb to realize how dumb you sound. None of your blithering can hide that there are about a dozen prime quality heavyweights active in Holmes' prime that he never faced. If Holmes is underrated then he's the most overrated underrated fighter who ever lived.
IQ of 150, eh? Well done, we're all proud of you. You certainly hide it well though. Like a millionaire who sweeps the roads.
@ArchitectOfEvil We're all proud of you, my friend. An IQ of 150 is not to be sniffed at, naturally.
A millionaire who sweeps the roads is not likely to be mistaken for a millionaire. Likewise a genius who acts the dimwit is not likely to be mistaken for a genius.
Yes a dozen. At least. Holmes turned pro in 1973 and lost to Spinks in 1985. Want me to list all the top fighters active in that timeframe that he never faced?
Couple of things... which black guy in that era was gonna fight Gerrie Coetzee? Where was he from? How many fights did he have outside South Africa?
What about Tate.. Tate was leading on all scorecards going into the last round when Weaver landed a punch to the chin that left the champion unconscious on the canvas for several minutes.
Coetzee had lots of fights outside SA... he fought Dokes, Thomas and Snipes in the US. Last I checked all those guys were black, as were Weaver, Tillis, Page and Tate. Enough for you?
Tate was a fine boxer who was vulnerable against sluggers, not gonna be an issue in a Holmes fight. He would have presented a much stiffer challenge than Marvis, Zanon, Rodriguez and the rest, wouldn't you say?
Also Tate made a comeback against Trevor Berbick but was KO'd by a hit to the back of the head.
Tate became the object of ridicule after these humiliating losses. Although he fought until 1988, he was never again taken seriously as a challenger. That's from the Wiki.
As for the other guys, I don't think it's simply the way you are trying to impress, that is, that Holmes was scared or had no chance. The sport is corrupt to start with, and political to say the least. Fuck Don King.
Holmes wasn't the scared type. But it's clear he was taking the path of least resistance for much of his career. He missed most of the golden era heavies, despite turning pro in '73, and missed most of the other champions when he was champ in the 80s.
He came along at a time when ABC were willing to pay him to face anyone, and he faced anyone. Why risk getting beat by a Thomas, a Dokes or a Page when you can make good money fighting Euro champs and fringe contenders?
Holmes started earlier than Dokes, and remained undefeated for 48 fights. Dokes had already lost a fight 3 years earlier against Coetzee. So it was bad timing.
Coetzee started a year after Holmes and lost 3 fights before Holmes even lost 1.
Maybe they weren't the contenders?
Later when Holmes made comebacks there were probably good reasons he didn't fight them then either.
Holmes fought everyone. He was the best sportsman.

Tyson was 32-0 when he fought Holmes. Noone actually "knew" how to beat him.
Talk is cheap. Also, Holmes was at the end of his career and making a comeback after being totally ripped off against Spinks in their 2nd fight.

About the ratings.. don't assume what I care about.
ArchitectOfEvil 2 years ago
And you totally don't know what you are bloody talking about. You are ridiculous.
What? He wasn't undisputed champ?
He fought every contender there was. He beat them all.
Just to show what an idiot you are:
After beating Snipes, Snipes only won 1 of his next 6 fights and then won a few fights in 86 when Holmes had retired.
Witherspoon lost to Holmes in 83, Holmes lost the title after that to Spinks. It's similar to the Snipes scenario.
ArchitectOfEvil 2 years ago
Holmes didn't even come close to fighting "every contender out there". He never fought Dokes, Page, Thomas, Tubbs, Tate or Coetzee. In fact he never fought any of the other champions. Most of his title defenses were mismatches against journeymen or novice level heavyweights.

Holmes beat Cooney, then Cooney only had a few more fights before retiring himself.
Holmes beat Weaver when he was 51 and Weaver was 39. That was Weavers last fight.
On the other note: the fighters he didn't fight.
Tubbs had never worked his way up to contention before Holmes was retiring.
Then when Holmes was retired, Tubbs lost to Witherspoon, whom Holmes had defeated 3 years earlier. Page also lost to Witherspoon.
