I usually add some "buggy berries" which is powdered and dried insect product as a protien boost. Nice video tho it seems to help a lot of people. Who ever knew dog/cat food was perfect for starlings!
@TaniaLouise79 There really isn't an exact amount of water I use because some brands of cat food soak up more water than others for some reason. The best case scenario would be to add ample amounts of water, and just drain out the excess after the food has soaked it all up. :)
@PenguinPuff91790 If its just temporary, dog food will work fine. Cat food is recommend over dog food though because it usually has more protein, something that is very important for growing baby birds.
I just found an orphaned sparrow and I was wondering if it was absolutely necessary to add the vitamins. I've read that certain higher quality dog and cat foods have enough supplemental enzymes and vitamins that the addition of the liquid vitamins wasn't a necessity but you seem fairly knowledgable and it seems like you have first hand experience raising baby birds, so I'd like your thoughts.
does it work on baby robins please responed even if the person that made this video doesent give me the answer anyone can quick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THaNKS i saved 5 baby robins at a garage not far from here... they changed them place and then mother threw them all out the nest . i waited 2 hours and no sign of the mother. so im takin care of them now. ...Thank you very much!! :)
Haha I do this!!! Ppl don't believe me when I tell them I use cat food. Most of the other people used milk and worms and they always died, but not eating the cat food. :) great video!!
Haha I do this!!! Ppl don't believe me when I tell them I use cat food. Most of the other people used milk and worms and they always died, but not eating the cat food. :) great video!!
I rescued 3 baby sparrows whose nest fell down. They are about 2 weeks old. I've been feeding them Kaytee cockatiel baby food. Would dry dog food work as well? I noticed that there are tiny red mites on the nest I made them. I have cockatiels, so, I'm concerned. I'm keeping the baby birds isolated from my birds. When they are grown, I'll be releasing them, but my concern is their survival outdoors and if they will eat, being that they're dependent on my feeding them. Can you advise?
u should put tht vitamin stuff in the water as u put the food in there as it is dry, so it actualy sucks it up other then just being swished around in it
thank you, very helpful. I just found a baby bird on my deck about a day ago, but I've just been feeding it bread mushed up and soaked in milk, I knew there was something better I could be feeding it. Thanks for the advice, hope the little guy likes it!

hello... i was just looking for tips on how to care for baby birds... my grandpa actually breeds canaries but i have a cockatiel...and i was planning on breeding him .. soo soon we will be going to the bird show in spring to get sunshine (my bird)a mate..do you think this would work for cockatiels?
I do have a question. How long can a baby bird go on without food? She wouldn't eat yesterday, so I somewhat forced her to eat just in case her stomach was empty.
i found a baby sparrow that jumped from its nest twice and now im tring to feed it but it is afriad of me because when we found if at our house party all the little kids crowded him he is at least 6 days old
I recommend keeping it in the fridge so it doesnt go bad. When it is about 10 minutes before feeding time, i take out a little and microwave it for a few seconds. ALWAYS check with the tip of your finger, to make sure its not too hot after microwaving.
hi i wanna know that can i feed this to my baby finches and also i wanna know that at what age i should start them to feed and will this thing affect the finches mom and dad... thank you
For finches, i would suggest that you buy the pet store's baby bird food because it is more nutritionally sound for a Finch. But until then, this recipe will do just fine. :)
okay so does wild bird include mockingbirds cuz i just found a baby one outside and saved it from my cat, who was about to pounce on it. and i rrreeeeeaaaaallllllyyyyy want to try this and give to my neighbor, who hapily took the baby bird in and put in his old hamster cage. please anser soon!:)
I've come into care of a baby sparrow, this is very helpful. I'm using Science Diet Kitten food, as I also have a little kitten around. Hopefully this little guy is gonna grow up nice and big :)
my cat just saved a baby sparrow and brought it to me....(no booboos at all -- and he mewed as he brought it to me) now I can feed him -- he is almost ready to fly!!
Oh my God- thank you! I just found a hatchling, breathing great, wiggly, and I can't find any baby bird food for him anywhere! You are so awesome, thanks so so so much!
I wouldnt recommend parakeet food for wild baby bird. The reason for this is parakeets, and other pet-store birds, are mainly seed eaters. Wild birds are mainly insect eaters, so they require a higher amount of protein. Pet store baby bird food doesnt have a high enough amount of protein. However, if you are just going to use it until you make some better baby bird food, it wont hurt. :)
It's recommended to buy Pet Store brand baby bird food for baby birds such as Cockatiels, parakeets, etc. This is because they less protein and fat than wild birds, and more seeds, etc.
Yes, you can use this for Pigeons as well. The bird vitamin drops arent absolutely nessasary, they are just a precaution mostly. I would strong recommend it.
I love you! i took a finch egg from a next on my pouch because it mother died or left it. i watched for days so how bout i save and i found out how to a candel and it is alive!! due to hatch in 10 days and ill feed that!!! so happy! :) it had bright red vains not black so it is alive and i see it head. TY
Luckly, the brand of cat food i buy has the right amount of Protein in it for Sparrows, so i dont have to add the egg. I recommend also using htis brand for Sparrows, to make less steps. However, if using a different brand with less Protein, then adding an egg (hard boiiled of corse), is recommened.
This food should also have egg and applesauce in it. They need a lot of protein and cat food dosen't have quite enough. I got the recipe from a starling messageboard. How are your babies doing? I have 3 I am raising now.
cool.

Use Science Diet LIGHT cat food. Birds don't digest fats the way mammals do. Its high in protein, and easier on the stomach.
I've worked at a wild bird rehabilitation center for years... it's standard there.
NEVER RELEASE A BIRD BACK INTO THE WILD UNLESS IT CAN IDENTIFY AT LEAST THREE TYPES OF NATURAL FOODS ON ITS OWN. (please don't imprint the bird)
